The hernia of the white line of the abdomen is a pathology resulting from the formation of cracks in the tendon fibers passing through the midline of the abdomen, through which fat penetrates, and then the internal organs.

Symptoms of a hernia of the white line of the abdomen:

  • the formation of bulging along the midline of the abdomen, accompanied by pain;
  • pain in the abdomen when trying to tense up or make a sharp move (especially in its upper segments);
  • divergence of abdominal muscles (diastase);

How is the hernia of the white abdominal line recognized?

The main methods of diagnosis are X-ray examination of the stomach and duodenum and abdominal cavity, examination by a surgeon, endoscopic examination, performed with the help of a gastroscopy, introduced into the stomach, as well as ultrasound and computed tomography. Depending on the place of localization, differentiate the hernia located near the navel, above the navel and below the navel. There are cases when the hernia does not appear and can be detected at random.

Stages of the disease development:

  • The preperitoneal lipoma is defined as a rounded compacted formation. Fat begins to seep through muscle cracks.
  • The initial stage is the formation of a hernial sac, the direct divergence of muscles;
  • The appearance of hernial gates, through which the abdominal organs penetrate (able to reach a diameter of twelve centimeters).

The pain syndrome of this pathology is expressed quite strongly even in the initial phase of the disease. Emergency help is needed when the hernia is infringed and nausea, vomiting, constipation or spotting in the feces, as well as rapidly increasing pain. When providing timely care, the prognosis outcome is favorable.

The cause of the disease may be an excessive weakening of the connective tissue of the white line of the abdomen, which can be both congenital and acquired. Often such a pathology affects male subjects at the age of about twenty to thirty years. In turn, weakening connective tissue contributes to overweight, the appearance of scars after surgery. Intensification of intra-abdominal pressure can lead to constipation, physical overload, severe prolonged cough, accumulation of fluid in the abdominal cavity, pregnancy.

For the prevention of the disease, balanced nutrition, strengthening of abdominal muscles, weight correction, uniform physical activity, wearing a special supporting band during pregnancy is recommended.

How is the hernia of the white abdominal line treated?

Treatment of this disease is performed surgically using the methods of hernioplasty:

  1. Plastic with the use of local tissues (muscles, tendon elements, fascia), aimed at eliminating the defect. Sometimes after using this method, recurrences of the disease occur and the hernia of the white abdominal line occurs again.
  2. Alloplastics - is carried out with the help of non-toxic implants, possessing high strength and elasticity, not causing inflammatory and allergic reactions.

Prior to the operation, a preliminary examination is scheduled, including blood and urine tests, an electrocardiogram. Counteroperative indications are poor blood coagulability, prostate adenoma of the second or third stage, skin diseases of a purulent-inflammatory nature, pregnancy, the presence of severe pathologies. After carrying out hernioplasty, the patient can stay in the hospital from several hours to two days. To eliminate pain in the post-operation period, the patient is prescribed painkillers. Within a month after the operation, in connection with such a state of consciousness as a white abdominal hernia, the patient is recommended to wear a special supporting bandage.
