No matter how effective some medications are, doctors always prefer complex treatment. This is understandable, because with the right selection of drugs, it is possible to achieve an enhanced therapeutic effect and at the same time ensure the prevention of complications.
For example, anti-inflammatory action is typical for antibiotics, NSAIDs, and corticosteroids. But in case of infection, you cannot do without antimicrobial agents, and the antibiotics themselves provide an anti-inflammatory effect only in terms of destroying the provoking factor. In this case, the body will need time for the inflammation to subside, and during this period another infection may join in and the disease will gradually become chronic.
But what does herbal medicine have to do with it? The fact is that herbs used for cystitis, although they have several properties, are not all expressed to the same degree. In addition, the combined use of different herbs with different effects, when combined correctly, provides potentiation of the action, which enhances the therapeutic effect.
This explains the following point: both traditional and folk medicine in relation to the treatment of inflammatory diseases of the bladder tend to use not so much individual herbs as their collections. Thus, in the acute form of cystitis, the following herbal mixtures can be used:
- Hernia herb and plantain leaf (10 g each), asparagus, lemon balm, prickly thistle (20 g each), field horsetail (30 g), oregano (50 g).
Take 1 tbsp of the herbal mixture, brew with boiling water (0.5 liters) and leave at room temperature until the mixture has completely cooled. The infusion will need to be filtered before use. The medicine should be taken at 2 tbsp intervals of 2 hours.
- Watercress (also known as watercress), iris and wormwood (10 g each), graveyard (also known as harmala), lycopodium and bedstraw (20 g each), bearberry (30 g).
Prepare the infusion in the same way as the previous recipe. Single dose - half a glass.
- Bearberry, plantain, chamomile. Take the plants in equal parts. For 750 g of boiling water, take 4.5 tbsp. of herbal mixture. Keep the infusion for 3 hours at room temperature. Take it half a glass at a time until you use up the entire volume. In this case, drink the infusion within 2-3 hours. To improve the taste and enhance the antimicrobial properties, you can add a spoonful of honey to the infusion. The effect lasts for a day.
- Ground parts of motherwort and horsetail, St. John's wort in the form of grass with inflorescences, flowers of wild pansy. We take all the plants in equal quantities. For a glass of boiling water, use 1 tbsp. of the collection. First, make the infusion in a water bath (10 minutes), then put it in a warm place for half an hour. The composition should be drunk in the amount of 2-3 glasses per day for acute inflammatory processes in the kidneys and bladder.
Treatment of chronic cystitis has its own characteristics, and therefore a different selection of herbs:
- A collection of nettle leaves, St. John's wort and bearberry, plantain leaves and rose hips is quite suitable for this purpose. Take the plants in equal proportions. It is recommended to use 3 tablespoons of the collection per 750 ml of water. Boil the composition for 5 minutes and leave for another quarter of an hour. The strained composition should be drunk during the day in 3-4 doses. It should be taken half an hour before meals.
It is recommended to use the decoction in courses for six months or more.
- Chamomile, calendula, yarrow, corn silk. Pour 4 tbsp of the mixture with ½ l of boiling water and leave for 2 hours. Take 150-160 ml three times a day half an hour before meals.
The course of treatment is 10 days. The courses should be repeated monthly for six months.
- Juniper, birch leaves, bearberry, horsetail. Take 2 tablespoons of herbal mixture per half a liter of boiling water, leave in a thermos for 8 hours. Take 50-70 ml no more than 5 times a day before meals. The course of treatment is about 2 months, after which you need to take a 2-week break and repeat the treatment.
There are also such collections that can be taken for any form of bladder inflammation:
- Lingonberry, nettle, chamomile, marshmallow, tansy. Take 1 tbsp of the mixture per glass of boiling water, leave in a thermos for 4 hours. Drink instead of tea in small portions three times a day after meals.
In case of acute cystitis, it is recommended to take herbs in different quantities, except for lingonberry leaf. It should be taken 4 times more than other components of the collection.
- Basil, St. John's wort, hops, centaury (2 parts each), knotweed (4 parts). For 2 liters of boiling water, take 4 tablespoons of the mixture, leave for an hour, strain and take 1 glass up to 7 times a day.
This recipe is useful for purulent forms of the disease.
For those who intend to independently prepare a herbal mixture for cystitis, here are some tips:
- The collection should include 3 or more herbs that have beneficial effects against bladder inflammation, adding a plant with a general tonic and immunostimulating effect.
- The following herbs have an antispasmodic effect, which is very important for relieving pain in acute cystitis: chamomile, St. John's wort, cinquefoil, tansy, immortelle, cudweed and some others.
- When composing a collection, it is necessary to take into account the body's tolerance of different herbs and the toxicity of plants.
- It is better to use familiar herbs, taking into account their contraindications.
It is clear that treatment with home-made herbs is a certain risk that must be recognized, because we do not always have the necessary knowledge about herbs and the consequences of their use, the possibilities of combination, etc.
Herbal collections can be made independently or purchased ready-made. Herbal complexes for the treatment of cystitis are less common than those used for inflammatory kidney pathologies, but they are usually interchangeable. Even doctors recommend kidney collection for cystitis.
For example, in case of inflammation of any parts of the urinary system, a diuretic renal collection may be recommended: bearberry leaves, juniper berries and licorice root. The collection has the following effects: diuretic, anti-inflammatory, antispasmodic (pain-relieving, since the pain in cystitis is spasmodic in nature), antimicrobial.
The diuretic collection is used as follows: take 1 tbsp of the collection per glass of boiling water, leave it for half an hour and take it strained, 1 tbsp. 20 minutes before meals. The frequency of administration is 3 times a day.
Let's pay attention to kidney herbal teas. Here is the composition of one of them: St. John's wort, knotweed, corn silk, lingonberry, goldenrod, calamus, mint, calendula, nettle, horsetail. This multi-component collection contains most of the herbs used in the treatment of acute and chronic cystitis, and therefore can be used for this disease, after all, the urinary system is a complex of interconnected organs, so complex treatment gives a more lasting result.
