A very common source of allergies is food products, so a diet for allergies is just what the doctor ordered. The group of allergic diseases includes a great many different conditions of the human body, such as bronchial asthma, Quincke's edema, atopic dermatitis, anaphylactic shock, allergic rhinitis, etc. Also, the occurrence of allergic reactions is associated with the inhalation of animal hair, pollen, house dust, etc.
Depending on what exactly is the source of the allergy, the doctor prescribes each patient a personal diet for allergies. However, there are also general rules, the implementation of which will help to get rid of or at least reduce the risk of this unpleasant ailment.
Diet for allergies: what you need to know?
So, first of all, you need to discuss with your allergist the list of foods that you can and cannot eat and start to follow the doctor’s recommendations.
Secondly, it is necessary to approach the “acquaintance” with new, previously untested products very carefully. It is advisable to try exotic foods in the presence of relatives or friends who can provide first aid in the event of an allergic attack. If new food turns out to be a source of an allergic reaction, it should be immediately added to the list of dangerous products prohibited for consumption during an allergy diet.
You should not buy ready-made semi-finished products, salads, mayonnaise, canned fruits and vegetables, various sauces and other products that were not prepared by yourself. It is unknown what components were added to the dish during its preparation. Also, you should not buy finely chopped meat and fish, it is better to buy such products in one piece. It is best for allergy sufferers to cook and eat at home. A diet for allergies necessarily assumes that the allergy sufferer does not perform these actions.
People who suffer from food allergies should carefully study the composition of any new product before eating it.
If a child suffers from allergies, then it becomes somewhat more difficult to manage the situation. While the baby is under the care of the mother, there is no need to worry about his diet, but as soon as the child goes to kindergarten or school, the mother will not be able to be there all the time and tell her child what he can eat and what he cannot. A diet for allergies is just as necessary for a baby as for an adult. From early childhood, the child should get used to what foods he can eat, and which ones he should refrain from or refuse altogether.
The most optimal variation would be to make a special card for the child, in which to write about prohibited and non-prohibited products. The list should also be given to the teachers or cook of the kindergarten or school that the child attends.
Here are some of the foods that are part of the allergy diet and are not recommended for use:
- spicy, fried, smoked, salty foods;
- sausages;
- seafood;
- citrus;
- sweets;
- sauerkraut, spinach, sorrel, radish, pickles, tomatoes, sweet peppers;
- mayonnaise and hot sauces;
- cocoa, chocolate, coffee;
- chewing gum;
- nuts;
- mushrooms, etc.
On the contrary, the products from this list are recommended for use during a diet for allergies:
- fermented milk products, with the exception of fruit yoghurts, biokefir, cottage cheese with fruits, etc.;
- lean meat;
- cereals, except semolina;
- frutose;
- refined vegetable oil (olive, sunflower, corn, linseed, etc.);
- mild cheeses;
- green apples, currants - black and red, plums, gooseberries;
- whole grain bread, second grade bread, etc.
If the allergy diet is followed, it gives allergy sufferers the opportunity to lead a completely natural lifestyle, do their favorite things and feel completely fine!
