Mycoplasma infection of the genitourinary system. Detection of Ureaplasma urealiticum antigen in the material by direct immunofluorescence

Ureaplasma urealiticum is a type of mycoplasma. The name "ureaplasma" comes from the ability of this type of mycoplasma to synthesize the enzyme urease, which breaks down urea to form carbon dioxide and ammonia. Ureaplasma urealyticum causes inflammatory diseases of the urogenital tract and can cause infertility in both men and women. In men, Ureaplasma urealyticum contributes to the development of prostatitis, urethritis and affects spermatogenesis, which leads to a decrease in fertility. Infertility in women is caused by inflammatory processes in the genitals. It should be emphasized that Ureaplasma urealyticum plays a significant role in the development of bacterial vaginosis. According to some data, the frequency of isolation of Ureaplasma urealyticum in bacterial vaginosis is 46%. Collection of material for research, its implementation and evaluation of the results are similar to the diagnosis of Mycoplasma hominis.
