Analgin - instructions during pregnancy... and not only

Analgin (international name - metamizole sodium) belongs to the pharmacotherapeutic group of analgesics and antipyretics, that is, it is a symptomatic painkiller and antipyretic. It does not treat the cause of pain, but relieves the pain syndrome. Other trade names of analgin are baralgin, benalgin, spazmalgon, tempalgin, novalgin, dipirone, aptalgin-teva, pentalgin, sedal-M, sedalgin-neo.

Among the indications for its use are: pain of various origins (headache, toothache, neuralgia, radiculitis, myositis, pain during menstruation), feverish conditions with a sharp increase in body temperature, flu, rheumatism. The analgesic effect is felt quite quickly due to the fact that analgin dissolves perfectly and is instantly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract.

Then, the components of the drug, under the influence of gastric juice, are converted into metabolites (in this case, derivatives of amino-antipyrine), which are not subject to biological degradation and are excreted from the body mainly by the kidneys (in this case, red urine is possible), and in breastfeeding mothers - with milk. In addition, analgin metabolites are able to cross the blood-brain and hematoplacental barriers.

Although little is known about the behavior and persistence of analgin (metamizole sodium) metabolites in the environment, European researchers have found them in high concentrations...in wastewater.

Analgin can cause allergies in the form of skin rashes, swelling of the skin of the face and mucous membranes of the throat, as well as anaphylactic shock.

Side effects of analgin on blood: thrombocytopenia, granulocytopenia, leukopenia, anemia, agranulocytosis. Agranulocytosis is a life-threatening pathological decrease in the content of leukocytes and granulocytes in the blood, which increases the body's susceptibility to various bacterial and fungal pathogens.

Side effects of analgin on the urinary system: interstitial nephritis, oliguria, proteinuria and decreased urine volume.

Side effects of analgin on the biliary system (gallbladder and bile ducts): hepatitis.

Side effects of analgin on the respiratory system: attacks of bronchial spasm may occur if there is a tendency to bronchospasms.

Contraindications for analgin: kidney disease, hypersensitivity, anemia, hematopoiesis suppression, liver and kidney failure, leukopenia, children under 12 years of age, pregnancy (especially the first three months of pregnancy and during the last 35-40 weeks), lactation period.

Analgin overdose can cause: nausea, vomiting, a sharp drop in temperature and blood pressure; possible disturbances in heart rhythm and attacks of shortness of breath, lethargy, and kidney dysfunction.

Analgin during pregnancy: consequences

Some recent studies conducted under the auspices of WHO have concluded that the risk of harmful side effects of metamizole (analgin) and its analogues is too high compared to its therapeutic effect. First of all, when a woman takes analgin in the early stages of pregnancy. Since taking this medicine, which passes through the placenta, can lead not only to anaphylaxis or such a dangerous pathology as agranulocytosis, but also to infant leukemia.

In addition to suppressing the hematopoiesis (blood-forming system) of the expectant mother, analgin disrupts the normal functioning of her kidneys, and this negatively affects the development of the systems and organs of the future child and can cause various abnormalities.

So neither analgin tablets, nor analgin injections during pregnancy, nor analgin with diphenhydramine during pregnancy should be used!

By the way, due to the risk of developing agranulocytosis, analgin is banned in almost 40 countries, including Sweden, the USA, Canada, Japan, Australia, Syria, Yemen and Zimbabwe.

In Germany, Austria, Hungary, Italy, Portugal and Spain, analgin is available in pharmacies only with a prescription.

Now you know almost everything about analgin. And you will be able to give the correct answer to the question of whether it is possible to take analgin during pregnancy.
