Milk thistle is a plant with purple flowers; its juice and seeds contain the active complex silymarin, a powerful antioxidant.
The stated effect of Maryin thistle
Milk thistle is believed to be a treatment for liver cirrhosis and to protect the liver from viral hepatitis, the damaging effects of alcohol and hepatotoxic drugs. In vitro, silymarin increases intrahepatic glutathione levels, an antioxidant important for detoxification.
Adverse effects of milk thistle
No serious effects have been reported. Milk thistle may enhance the effects of antihyperglycemic drugs and may interfere with indinavir therapy.
