Homeopathic treatment, which many people consider safer due to the small number of contraindications and side effects, is becoming more and more popular among pregnant women. After all, it is during this period, full of anxiety for the life of the baby growing inside her, that a woman especially begins to feel the value of her health. Caring for herself and her baby makes expectant mothers choose healthy products and safe medicines. Doctors understand this and, along with pharmacy drugs, offer homeopathic remedies that help maintain pregnancy and women's health in a way that is safe for the child. Thus, the drug "Viburkol" during pregnancy will help stabilize the tone of the uterus and prevent miscarriage, ease pain during childbirth and relieve tension. Moreover, the beneficial properties of the drug do not end there.
Indications viburcola in pregnancy
Some readers, especially fathers or grandfathers, may be somewhat surprised by the recommendation to use Viburkol during pregnancy, because they are familiar with this drug as an effective children's medicine that a doctor could prescribe during a fever associated with the appearance of baby teeth in children and grandchildren or during acute respiratory infections caused by various viruses. Yes, Viburkol is a fairly popular drug in pediatrics, which does not prevent it from being useful for adults, especially expectant mothers.
But if the drug is useful for children, if necessary:
- reduce the temperature and relieve pain when the first teeth appear,
- relieve symptoms of acute respiratory viral infections, rubella, chickenpox, tonsillitis and help the child's body cope with the disease faster,
- reduce symptoms of dyspeptic phenomena, such as increased gas formation or flatulence,
- relieve inflammation in the ear-throat-nose area,
It will be even more useful for adult women who want to give birth to a healthy child.
Among the indications for the use of homeopathic medicine one can see:
- nervous tension (and expectant mothers are generally restless people, especially on the eve of childbirth or when any suspicious symptoms arise in the form of nagging pain in the lower abdomen, etc.),
- inflammatory diseases of the genitourinary system (if treatment cannot be postponed during pregnancy, then at least the safest one should be chosen, which justifies the choice of the drug "Viburkol"),
- acute infectious diseases of gynecological nature (adnexitis, salpingitis, oophoritis, etc.) as part of complex therapy,
- colds accompanied by high temperature (to relieve symptoms),
- threat of miscarriage due to increased uterine tone,
- reducing the severity of spasmodic pain during childbirth, facilitating childbirth.
It should be said that during pregnancy, Viburkol suppositories for uterine tone can be prescribed at different stages:
- in the early stages, the appointment is associated with the threat of termination of pregnancy, n
- and late ones - in preparation for childbirth (to facilitate the birth process and reduce pain).
For information, the drug "Viburcol" has found wide application in gynecology for menstrual cycle disorders and painful periods (dysmenorrhea). And this drug helps the elderly cope with intoxication syndrome caused by various serious functional disorders in the body, which are more than enough in old age. Less often, the drug is used to treat convulsive syndrome.

Release form
People are accustomed to considering homeopathic remedies as medicines produced in the form of small white round granules, and do not even think about the fact that such drugs can have other forms of release. Thus, the drug "Viburcol", used in obstetric practice during pregnancy to prevent dangerous complications, is produced by a German manufacturer in the form of rectal suppositories.
The suppositories are torpedo-shaped, with a slightly pointed end on one side and a funnel-shaped depression on the other. The color of the suppositories is white or pale yellow, and the smell is very weak, not irritating. The surface of the rectal suppositories is smooth, which ensures easy insertion into the rectum. The package contains 12 suppositories, packed in blisters of 6 pieces.
"Viburkol" is a multi-component drug. According to the instructions, each suppository contains 1.1 mg of chamomile, belladonna, nightshade and plantain, 2.2 mg of pulsatilla and 4.4 mg of calcium carbonicum. The drug is quite concentrated. High dilution is found only in the last component (D8), the other components have dilutions from 1 to 4.
Some concerns may be caused by the presence of belladonna in the composition of the drug, which is considered a very poisonous plant. However, the content of belladonna (belladonna) in the drug is so minimal that it provides only a mild sedative and antispasmodic effect, without having a toxic effect when administered rectally.
Another drug created on the basis of belladonna is “Belladonna Extract”, which is also produced in the form of rectal suppositories and is used in the last stages of pregnancy.
If you choose between these two drugs, doctors prescribe Viburkol suppositories during pregnancy more willingly than belladonna suppositories, where the content of the latter is much higher. Viburkol contains belladonna extract in the amount of 1.1 mg when diluted in D2, i.e. the ratio of belladonna extract to alcohol is 1:100. At the same time, belladonna suppositories contain 15 mg of extract with a ratio of the active substance to alcohol of 1:10. So should you be wary of using Viburkol suppositories, if even belladonna extract with a significantly higher content of the toxic substance is allowed to be used during pregnancy?
Pharmacodynamics
Viburkol suppositories are one of the few medications that doctors prescribe without fear during pregnancy, because whatever the effect of the drug, it will also be useful for the expectant mother if she has health problems or a sudden spasm has caused the uterus to tone up, which is fraught with miscarriage.
The special formula of the drug provides a complex effect on the body of a child or an adult. "Viburcol" is credited with several very important actions at the same time:
- antipyretic,
- anti-inflammatory,
- sedative,
- painkiller (analgesic),
- antispasmodic,
- anticonvulsant.
The first four actions justify its use in the treatment of infectious and inflammatory pathologies of the respiratory and genitourinary systems. The second, third and fourth are indispensable in cases of increased uterine tone and preparation for childbirth. And the last makes it possible to prescribe a homeopathic preparation for convulsive syndrome caused by peripheral circulatory disorders.
Taking the drug during fever helps to gently and gradually normalize the temperature, which distinguishes Vibrukol from antipyretic drugs and NSAIDs. An important feature of multicomponent suppositories is that it does not interfere with the physiological processes occurring in different organs, but only increases their efficiency or, simply put, effectiveness. Activation of phagocytosis is noted, the rate of elimination of toxins from the body increases, and the synthesis of the natural immunostimulant, interferon, is more active.
Since all components of the drug act in a complex, we get a general strengthening effect. The main task of the drug is to increase immunity. And if the protective functions are at their best, the body itself will be able to cope with the disease.
Pharmacokinetics
Rectal suppositories "Viburcol" - a natural herbal preparation. And this means that its action will be more gentle and careful in relation to such important organs responsible for metabolism and excretion of the drug, such as the liver and kidneys. It can even be said that the herbal medicine with its inherent effects will not only not harm vital organs, but will also help them to recover if their work was disrupted due to an illness. Moreover, the body itself will be engaged in the restoration of impaired physiological functions.
This is the basis of the action of all homeopathic preparations. Their goal is not just to relieve symptoms, but to heal the body, which gives a more significant and long-lasting result.
Getting into the body through the large intestine, the drug is gradually absorbed into the blood, providing both local and systemic effects. However, the composition and concentration of active substances is such that they do not cause intoxication of the body, as is the case with drugs created on the basis of chemicals. This is a very important feature when it comes to treating a woman - the keeper of a new life, because in this case you can be sure that the problem will be solved, but neither the pregnant woman nor the fetus in her womb will suffer.
Use viburcola in pregnancy during pregnancy
"Viburkol" is a drug that contains only natural components in doses that are safe for the life and health of women and children, which means there are no restrictions on its use during pregnancy. This is also noted in the instructions for the drug. The drug, safe for a child from birth, is simply not capable of harming anyone. It is not for nothing that it is so actively offered by obstetricians to women at different stages of pregnancy.
It is clear that, like any other homeopathic or pharmacy drug, Viburkol may not suit everyone due to its rich composition. It is possible that the expectant mother may be allergic to any of the components, which she did not even think about. Doctors always clarify this issue and can, if necessary, recommend an equivalent replacement for the drug if it causes intolerance reactions. Without consulting a doctor, the expectant mother should not take any medication.
When can a gynecologist prescribe Viburkol suppositories to a pregnant woman? Viburkol is usually prescribed during early pregnancy if the woman complains of pain and spasms in the lower abdomen. This symptom may indicate a threat of premature termination of pregnancy.
When there is a risk of early termination of pregnancy due to insufficient production of progesterone in the body and the resulting spasm of the uterine muscles, Viburcol suppositories are prescribed simultaneously with Lutein tablets. The former relieve the sudden tone of the uterus, the latter introduce an analogue of progesterone into the body, which will reduce the contractility and excitability of the muscular layer of the uterus to prevent further spasms.
Due to its safety for the pregnant woman and the fetus, the drug can be prescribed if the expectant mother has been diagnosed with one of the inflammatory diseases of the genitourinary system or an acute sexually transmitted infection. This may be pyelonephritis, which is diagnosed in a large proportion of pregnant women due to kidney overload, or adnexitis (inflammation of the appendages).
The drug will also be useful if a young mother did not protect herself and was struck down by a cold, accompanied by chills and fever.
During late pregnancy, Viburkol is prescribed in preparation for childbirth. It helps to relieve excessive anxiety, relieves tension and pain on the eve of labor, thereby facilitating the birth of the child and preventing various complications that accompany prolonged painful labor.
As for the reviews of the drug from expectant mothers, they are mostly positive. Women thank the doctors who prescribed them such an effective drug that helped to maintain the pregnancy when there was a threat of termination.
There are, of course, negative reviews related to possible allergic reactions, but nothing can be done about it. Almost all medications have this side effect, even those offered by traditional medicine and homeopathy.
Some women claim that Viburcol did not help them, but this cannot be ruled out either, after all, each organism is individual. But on the other hand, perhaps the whole problem is in the incorrectly selected dosage, which should also be individual.
As for the reviews about mental disorders with long-term use of the drug, the question immediately arises: what is the duration of treatment (the recommended course of treatment is no more than 2 weeks)? And why are such disorders not observed in small children? Apparently, when incomprehensible symptoms occur, it is necessary to understand in each specific case what exactly happened and why.
Rectal suppositories "Viburkol" are intended for insertion into the rectum. No other use for them is described in the instructions, which means the question of where to insert "Viburkol" suppositories during pregnancy is incorrect. Moreover, vaginal tablets and suppositories are used extremely rarely during this period, so as not to harm the fetus.
As for safe and effective dosage, in case of increased uterine tone, obstetricians suggest pregnant women to insert 1 suppository into the rectum through the anus 2 times a day. If the risk of miscarriage is small or in question, it is enough to use 1 suppository at night.
If someone thinks that this dosage is unsafe, for comparison, we will say that newborn children can be administered 1 to 1.5 suppositories per day (the suppository is divided into 4 parts and 1 part is administered 4 to 6 times a day). For children aged 1-6 months with acute respiratory pathologies occurring with an elevated temperature, the administration of 2 suppositories per day is indicated (i.e. 1 suppository 2 times a day, as in the case of a threatened miscarriage).
Older children and adults may be prescribed 4 to 6 suppositories per day, which is 2-3 times more than the dose for pregnant women. Mothers hardly need to worry about the prescribed treatment, which is safe even for newborns. And the duration of treatment is prescribed by the doctor based on the patient's condition, so there is nothing to worry about here either.
Now a little about how to use suppositories correctly during pregnancy. The suppository should be inserted deep into the rectum, pushing it forward with a finger (sterile gloves are required). It is better to do this in a side position. If the woman cannot do it herself, she should be helped by medical personnel or relatives.
After the suppository has been inserted, it is recommended to lie in the same position for at least 10 minutes so that it cannot melt and slip back out. Having melted under the influence of heat, the medicine begins to be absorbed into the blood already in the lower sections of the small intestine, which eliminates its breakdown under the influence of digestive enzymes, as happens with oral administration.
Side effects viburcola in pregnancy
Since Viburkol suppositories are prescribed quite often during pregnancy, there is already enough information about the side effects of the drug. As with any homeopathic remedy, Viburkol has very few of them.
The instructions report possible allergic reactions, which occur quite rarely as a manifestation of intolerance to various components of the drug. Some women complain of burning and itching at the injection site, which indicates only increased sensitivity of the skin in the anus, while others report more severe allergic reactions directly related to intolerance to individual components of the suppositories. In the latter case, immediate discontinuation of the drug and administration of antihistamines are required.
By the way, hypersensitivity to the composition of the drug or its individual components is the only contraindication to the use of this completely safe remedy.
There are also complaints from pregnant women that after inserting the suppository they experience a sensation similar to the urge to defecate. This is not surprising if the intestines were not cleaned before inserting the suppository. After all, solid fat is used as an auxiliary substance (and this is the bulk, especially when it comes to homeopathic preparations containing from a tenth to a millionth or more of the active substance), which will envelop the particles of feces and act as a laxative.
If the intestines have been previously cleaned, as it should be, there are false urges to defecate, most likely associated with improper insertion of suppositories (for example, a 10-minute interval was not observed for the suppository to completely dissolve. In addition, it should be taken into account that Viburkol is an antispasmodic, which means it can affect the sphincter of the rectum.
Overdose
Practice shows that when prescribing the drug "Viburcol" during pregnancy, doctors and their patients should not worry about such a phenomenon as an overdose. If a six-month-old child does not feel ill from 4-6 suppositories a day, then such an unpleasant phenomenon in a pregnant woman is unlikely from 1-2 suppositories, which is confirmed by the information in the instructions for the drug.
Usually, the use of homeopathic medicines at the first stage may be accompanied by an exacerbation of the symptoms of the disease. The expectant mother must inform the attending physician about any unpleasant symptoms or deterioration of the condition, and he will decide how dangerous it is and whether it is worth continuing the therapy with this medicine.
Interactions with other drugs
As for interaction with other drugs, here too, Viburkol turns out to be quite safe and “friendly”. It does not have a negative effect on other homeopathic and pharmaceutical drugs, which means that it can be successfully used as part of complex therapy simultaneously with NSAIDs, hormonal drugs, analgesics and antibacterial agents.
Storage conditions
Storing the drug is also not difficult. The section on storage conditions for rectal suppositories states that a temperature of no higher than 25 degrees is considered normal for maintaining their integrity and properties. It is recommended to store the suppositories in their original packaging, removing them from the blister only as needed. It is imperative to protect the drug from direct sunlight, which can simply melt the suppository even at a low ambient temperature.
Shelf life
The shelf life of rectal suppositories "Viburcol" is 3 years, which means that a woman can use them not only during pregnancy for herself, but also later to treat her baby, without worrying that the drug will quickly become unusable. Still, the price of this effective and relatively safe homeopathic remedy used in the treatment of adults and children is quite high.
