Quite a few women are interested in the question of the possibility of using spazmalgon during pregnancy. Some have used spazmalgon as a pain reliever for headaches or stomach pains, and of course, when a woman finds out about pregnancy, the question arises whether it is worth using this remedy further.
The action of spazmalgon, as the name suggests, has a relaxing effect on smooth muscles, as a result of which spasm is removed, it is usually prescribed for diseases of the cardiovascular system. Spazmalgon is a combined analgesic, which contains several components with a pronounced antispasmodic effect (fenpiverinium bromide, pitofenone hydrochloride, metamizole sodium). The drug effectively relaxes the smooth muscles of internal organs, relieves pain, reduces tone, relieves inflammation, reduces gastric and intestinal motility. The analgesic effect of spazmalgon is observed 20-30 minutes after administration.
It is mainly prescribed to patients who suffer from mild or moderate pain. Spazmalgon is also prescribed for digestive system diseases, urinary system diseases, biliary dyskinesia, colic, urolithiasis, and cholelithiasis.
Contraindications to taking spazmalgon include intolerance to individual components of the drug, closed glaucoma, renal and hepatic insufficiency, decreased tone of the gallbladder or urinary bladder, etc. It is also not prescribed when a pathology requiring surgical intervention is suspected.
Spazmalgon is contraindicated during pregnancy, as there is currently no accurate data on the safe use of the drug by pregnant women. If there is a need to take Spazmalgon during breastfeeding, you should stop breastfeeding for the duration of taking the drug. Breastfeeding can be resumed no earlier than two days after taking the last tablet.
When taking Spazmalgon, a number of side effects may occur: increased blood pressure, nausea, difficulty urinating, irritability, anemia, arrhythmia, visual impairment, exacerbation of stomach diseases, headache, etc.

Is it possible to use spazmalgon during pregnancy?
Spazmalgon is a complex antispasmodic. The drug contains three active ingredients: pitofenone, metamizole sodium (analgin), fenpiveronium, which have a muscle relaxant effect. On average, pain relief and an improvement in well-being are observed half an hour after taking the drug. Due to this effect, spazmalgon is mistakenly considered a painkiller. Spazmalgon actually contains one substance with an analgesic effect (analgin), it is this component that is most dangerous during pregnancy. The use of anti-inflammatory non-steroidal drugs, which include analgin, has a negative effect on the fetus (leads to congenital anomalies). With frequent use of such drugs, there is a risk of developing pathologies.
In the last weeks of pregnancy, taking spazmalgon can cause weak labor activity, since the drug suppresses the synthesis of substances involved in the process of initiating labor in the body. As a result, a woman may go past her due date.
Taking spazmalgon during pregnancy (or its analogues) can provoke early occlusion of the duct between the aorta and pulmonary artery in the fetus. As a result, significant problems with the heart and lungs may arise in the future. Also, the long-term action of analgin provokes the development of severe side effects - an irreversible process of suppression of the immune system (agranulocytosis). As a result, even a minor cold will lead to severe complications, possibly with a fatal outcome. In many European countries, it was this effect of analgin (metamizole sodium) that caused the ban. In our country, there is no ban on the production of drugs containing metamizole sodium, although there are already prerequisites for this.

Instructions for spazmalgon during pregnancy
Spazmalgon is not recommended for use during pregnancy in the first three months and the last 6 weeks. However, the effect of the drug on the fetus during pregnancy is not exactly known, so it is recommended to replace Spazmalgon with another antispasmodic drug, the use of which will have much fewer side effects. It is better to consult a gynecologist about the possible use of antispasmodic or painkillers to eliminate the risk of developing pathologies with uncontrolled use of drugs.
Contraindications to taking spazmalgon during pregnancy
According to the instructions, contraindications to the use of Spazmalgon are intolerance to any of the components, weak tone of the urinary or gall bladder, liver or kidney failure, impaired hematopoietic function, intestinal obstruction.
People with allergic rhinitis and bronchial asthma should use Spazmalgon with extreme caution.
People whose work requires increased attention should use it with caution.
One of the contraindications is the period of pregnancy and breastfeeding, also the drug is not prescribed to children under 15 years. It is not recommended to use the drug in the first and last trimester, since in this case severe consequences are possible. The use of the drug in the first trimester provokes severe pathologies of fetal development, in the last - to weakening of labor. The effect of the drug in the second trimester on the body of a pregnant woman and a child is poorly studied, but individual components of the drug can cause malformations of the child, therefore the drug is prescribed to a pregnant woman with extreme caution, if possible, the doctor replaces them with safer means.
Consequences of taking spazmalgon during pregnancy
Taking the drug in the first three months of pregnancy leads to disruption of embryogenesis (development from fertilization to conception). It is at the beginning of pregnancy that all important human organs are laid down, uncontrolled and prolonged use of spazmalgon leads to severe developmental defects (lungs, heart, vision, gastrointestinal tract, etc.)
In the third trimester, weakening of labor activity is possible. This is a rather serious complication in the process of labor, characterized, first of all, by weak and short contractions, which may stop altogether. Weak contractions are accompanied by a very slow opening of the cervix and the movement of the child along the birth canal. Weak labor activity leads to oxygen starvation of the child (hypoxia) or suffocation (asphyxia). As a result, metabolic processes of the newborn are disrupted. The severity of changes in the baby's body depends on the duration and intensity of asphyxia. In acute asphyxia, hypovolemia (thickening of the blood) may develop.
Weak labor activity leads to severe fatigue of the woman in labor, bleeding and infection of the birth canal are possible.
Taking spazmalgon can provoke miscarriage and uterine bleeding.
The drug should be discontinued throughout pregnancy and replaced with safer drugs.
Pregnancy and spazmalgon are not compatible with each other, because this medicine causes a number of negative side effects that can harm both the mother and her future baby. In this regard, it is necessary, if possible, to completely exclude the intake of spazmalgon by the expectant mother.
