Hawthorn in early pregnancy: tincture, decoction, fruit

Hawthorn is a plant that is often used for therapeutic purposes. It is a shrub and belongs to the rose family. Hawthorn grows from 3 to 5 meters in height on average. It began to be used in medical practice in the 17th century. Nowadays, the plant is widely used for therapeutic effects on patients. At the same time, hawthorn is prescribed with caution during pregnancy. Doctors decide whether it is possible to drink hawthorn during pregnancy based on the individual characteristics of a particular patient.

Indications hawthorn in pregnancy
In some cases, the benefits of hawthorn during pregnancy are undeniable. There are a number of indications for the use of this drug during gestation. These include:
- improving the general condition and functioning of the immune system;
- treatment and prevention of swelling;
- problems with the cardiovascular system, blood circulation, hypertension;
- stress, deterioration of the nervous system, irritability;
- insomnia.
The plant's calming effect is based on the fact that this medicine relaxes the heart muscle and reduces blood pressure. Thus, hawthorn can be used as a sedative during pregnancy. It is also prescribed for edema to remove excess fluid.
Useful properties of hawthorn
The plant as a whole contains substances such as:
- iron;
- zinc;
- copper;
- phosphorus;
- calcium;
- potassium;
- cobalt;
- magnesium;
- and others.
Previously, the plant was used for loose stools, dysentery, heart pathologies, to purify the blood and for other purposes.
The leaves, flowers and fruits of hawthorn are used for medicinal purposes.
- The leaves of the shrubs are oblong and arranged on the branches in a spiral. In the 19th century, hawthorn leaves were used for products that were used as blood purifiers.
- The plant's inflorescences are used immediately after they bloom. The inflorescences contain various vitamins and microelements, ursolic, chlorogenic and caffeic acids.
- The fruits ripen in early autumn. They are used dried and only after full ripening, namely when they are red. They contain various acids, such as citric, tartaric and ascorbic.
Dosing and administration
There are a limited number of ways to use hawthorn during pregnancy. These include:
- decoctions (a decoction of hawthorn during pregnancy is prepared as follows: 5 dried fruits are boiled for 15 minutes in 400 ml of boiling water, taken to prevent swelling and to reduce heart rate after the first meal and an hour before going to bed);
- compotes (to influence the general condition, compotes made from dried fruits with the addition of hawthorn are prescribed);
- infusions of inflorescences in boiled water (for various purposes);
- smoothie (for treatment of insomnia, use a cocktail of banana, tsp honey, tsp hawthorn tincture, 2 tsp kefir an hour before going to bed);
- tea (rose hips and hawthorn are brewed in equal proportions during pregnancy as tea and consumed to strengthen the immune system).
It is also permissible to use confectionery products with hawthorn during pregnancy.
Contraindications
Contraindications include:
- hypersensitivity to plant components;
- toxicosis;
- VSD;
- extrasystole;
- atrial tachyarrhythmia;
- tachycardia;
- atherosclerosis.
Before taking hawthorn in any form, you should consult a specialist. It is definitely forbidden to use alcohol tinctures. Uncontrolled use of the drug can become a threat of termination of gestation.

Special instructions
Some precautions should be taken. Excessive use may cause a number of symptoms, such as:
- lethargy and slow reaction;
- general weakening;
- disruptions in the functioning of the cardiovascular system;
- hypotension.
The main precautions are as follows:
- the drug should not be taken before meals or on an empty stomach;
- you should make sure that there are no allergic reactions;
- The use of hawthorn inflorescences, leaves and fruits during pregnancy is only possible if the rules of collection are followed;
- Do not exceed the recommended dosage;
- It is not advisable to use raw fruits and jam;
- Hawthorn tincture containing alcohol is prohibited for use during pregnancy.
