ACC during pregnancy is prescribed by a doctor if the possible risk to the fetus exceeds the expected result.
The reason for the risk is that the drug itself destroys the chemical bonds of substances that are part of the sputum, that is, ACC is an expectorant. Naturally, the destruction process occurs due to the components that are part of the drug: acetylcysteine is the active substance. The category of action of acetylcysteine on a child according to the FDA is B. In addition, there are a number of side effects:
- heartburn, nausea, vomiting;
- stomatitis.
During pregnancy, they try to replace ACC with other drugs, for example, "Mukaltin", "Ambroxol", "Sinupret", "Chymotrypsin" and others. ACC is prescribed to a pregnant woman during this period of time only in extreme cases.
Is it possible to use ACC during pregnancy?
Only a doctor can give a clear answer to this question, since the effect of ACC during pregnancy is not only on the expectant mother, but also on the fetus itself. In addition, the mechanism of action of this drug during pregnancy has not been sufficiently studied, so the consequences may be unpredictable.
So is it possible or not?
Of course, you can, if the doctor does not see another solution to the problem. But you should not take the drug on your own. In addition to all that has been said, doctors are familiar with contraindications and side effects, and, of course, such a drug is prescribed extremely rarely during pregnancy. Most often, it is replaced by other drugs that are safe for the fetus.
But if a doctor has already prescribed ACC during pregnancy, then he will select the course and dosage of use.
ACC long during pregnancy
ACC during pregnancy, namely all its medicinal forms, including ACC Long, should be taken with caution and under strict medical supervision.
ACC Long contains active (acetylcysteine) and auxiliary (citric acid; sodium bicarbonate; sodium carbonate; mannitol; lactose; ascorbic acid; sodium cyclamate; sodium saccharinate dihydrate; sodium citrate dihydrate; blackberry flavoring agent "B") substances. The complex combination of these active and auxiliary components has not been sufficiently studied, namely their effect on the child. Therefore, ACC Long, like other forms of ACC during pregnancy, is prescribed in special cases. Of course, the methods of use during pregnancy are determined by the doctor.

Brief instructions for the use of ACC during pregnancy
The duration of use and doses are determined only by the attending physician who prescribes ACC during pregnancy. The instructions themselves do not contain such information, since it is during pregnancy that there are warnings regarding its effect on the fetus. In addition, the course of treatment is carried out in accordance with the established diagnosis.
For what diseases is ACC prescribed in general, not only during pregnancy?
Respiratory diseases, namely:
- bronchitis,
- tracheitis,
- cystic fibrosis,
- otitis media with effusion,
- sinusitis.
If a pregnant woman is diagnosed with one of these diseases, then, as a rule, complex treatment is prescribed, which includes antiviral drugs (which ones exactly, only the doctor decides), expectorants and anti-inflammatory drugs.
Reviews of ACC during pregnancy
As for reviews, many women do not risk using ACC during pregnancy and lactation, as there is very little information about its effect on the child. Pregnant women try to replace this drug with another, more proven remedy. And nursing mothers either do the same or stop the lactation process.
Reviews regarding ACC during pregnancy are quite contradictory, that is, some say "nothing to worry about", others are afraid. But, in any case, you should not rely too much on reviews in this situation, since each person's body's reaction to a particular drug is different, especially since the instructions contain warnings about the use of ACC during pregnancy.
During pregnancy, doctors try to replace ACC with a safer alternative, therefore, the instructions do not indicate methods of use during pregnancy and lactation.
