Indications ointments for swollen eyes
Such symptoms serve as indications for the use of ointments for eye swelling. They are needed for:
- elimination of swelling,
- restoration of water balance,
- renewal of dermal cells,
- saturation with useful substances,
- increasing the body's immunity.
Before eliminating defects around the eyes, it is necessary to exclude diseases of the heart, kidneys, and other internal organs, which are also accompanied by symptoms of swelling.

What is the justification for using hemorrhoid medications as eye ointments for eye swelling? The answer is simple: similar composition. History is silent about who first noticed this similarity. But everyone knows that pharmacy and cosmetology are very close, and they often use the same ingredients in their product recipes. For example, the formulas of medicinal creams, ointments, and suppositories include components used to create anti-aging cosmetics. Such creams have a quick effect, so they come in handy in emergency cases when it is necessary to urgently remove swelling on the face.
Heparin ointment
The popular heparin ointment is exactly one hundred years old. It was then that its ability to influence the state of the blood was discovered. Nowadays, the ointment is used in medicine – in the treatment of phlebitis, trophic ulcers, hemorrhoids, and in cosmetology – for eye swelling, bruises and hematomas.
The components of the ointment are heparin, anesthesin, benzyl nicotinate.
- Heparin reduces blood clotting and dissolves formed blood clots.
- Anesthesin has a local anesthetic effect.
- Benzyl nicotinate thins the blood, reduces thrombus formation, and promotes the absorption of heparin.
In combination, the active components of the ointment for eye swelling provide anti-inflammatory, antithrombotic, anesthetic, and vasodilatory effects.
The drug is used as prescribed by a specialist, who must take into account contraindications:
- blood diseases (hemophilia),
- low platelet count (thrombocytopenia),
- pregnancy and breastfeeding period,
- the presence of purulent wounds,
- hypersensitivity to ingredients.
Treatment of edema, depending on its severity, should last from 10 to 20 days. Overdose with prolonged use is fraught with serious complications: increased bone fragility, fractures, osteoporosis. Redness in the area of application does not pose a threat: usually this is a reaction to the effects of nicotinic acid.
The ointment should be applied in a thin layer, two or three times a day. Analogues: Aurobin, Troxevasin, Proctozan, Wobenzym.
Relief ointment
Relief ointment is created against hemorrhoids. However, during the process of application, its cosmetic properties were discovered: it is useful in eliminating swelling under the eyes, and in emergency cases. And although no one has officially conducted tests in this direction, many women use the ointment for cosmetic purposes, after testing for allergies.
The effective component of the preparation is oil extracted from shark liver. This is a complete set of vitamins and microelements necessary for tissue renewal, inflammation prevention, and immune stimulation.
Additional ingredients - phenylephrine, glycerin, vitamin E, corn oil, thyme. They soften the skin, enrich it with moisture, heal damage. Due to the narrowing of blood vessels, swelling disappears. As a result, the skin is saturated with moisture, the face becomes smooth, without swelling and dark circles around the eyes.
It is important to remember that this ointment is a pharmaceutical product, not a cosmetic one, so it cannot be used without supervision. For example, the period of use should not exceed three months. If you violate this rule, the skin will become dry, pale and dull, and it will take a long time to treat.
Sometimes the drug causes a burning sensation or hyperemia, which quickly disappear. But if the negative reaction does not disappear, it should be abandoned. Contraindications to the use of the drug also include:
- diabetes mellitus,
- pregnancy and breastfeeding,
- blood diseases,
- thromboembolism.
The preparation should be applied to problem areas for no longer than two weeks in a row, with a long break. A quick effect is provided by the method of applying the ointment for eye swelling in a thick layer, using a fixing patch (for deep penetration under the skin).
Troxevasin ointment
The main purpose of troxevasin in the form of an ointment is the treatment of venous pathologies, in particular, varicose veins, as well as hemorrhoids. The drug strengthens blood vessels and improves blood flow in problem areas.
The active ingredient is troxerutin, a vitamin of group P; it has a beneficial effect on capillaries, reduces inflammation, swelling, and hematomas. Troxevasin affects the walls and muscles of small vessels, as a result of which swelling around the eyes is significantly reduced or disappears altogether.
Troxevasin as an ointment for eye swelling is applied twice a day. Light massage accelerates the absorption and effect of the active components.
The advertising information that their anti-edematous properties are actively used by actresses recognized as stars of world cinema speaks in favor of this and other ointments for hemorrhoids.
Analogues:
- troxevasin neo, lyoton, ginkor, venabos.
Synonyms:
- Venolife, troxerutin.
Ointments for bruises and puffiness under the eyes
When choosing an ointment for bruises and swelling under the eyes, you need to familiarize yourself with its composition. The recipe should include components that activate blood and lymph flow. Popular plants nettle, horse chestnut, and butcher's broom have exactly these properties. An ointment with these healing components copes well with eliminating unhealthy and unsightly defects.
A new development to solve the problem is the cosmetic ointment Hylexin, which helps to strengthen blood vessels and stimulates blood circulation in them. Another similar remedy is "Badyaga" with a similar effect.
There are also many time-tested, simple and affordable home remedies for eye swelling. For example:
- sour cream with chopped green parsley pulp;
- grated potatoes plus olive oil (100:15).
These products eliminate the accompanying problem – edema. Plus the already mentioned ointments – heparin, troxevasin, hepatrombin, relief, bezornil, troxevasin, “Arnica”, “Spasatel”, indovazin, “Sinyak-off” with a tinting effect, Vishnevsky balsamic liniment.
It is important to know that Troxevasin is applied little by little, since it has a strong lifting effect.
A good result is given by a regular cream for the skin in the eye area with the addition of a few drops of vitamin E solution. It is useful to accompany the procedure with a gentle massage, riveting the ointment with the pads of the ring fingers.
Ointments for hemorrhoids under the eyes from swelling
Ointments for hemorrhoids under the eyes from swelling effectively eliminate the above-mentioned defects. This is due to the activity of the components, thanks to which a pharmacy product, far from cosmetics at first glance, in practice has a quick lifting and anti-edematous effect. The advantage of ointments is that they are much cheaper than branded creams for swelling under the eyes. It is necessary to use a pharmacy drug with caution, in small doses, after checking for individual sensitivity.
There are, however, objections to the "non-targeted" use of rectal medications. Some pharmacists have spoken out about the possible risks associated with applying antihemorrhoidal ointments for eye swelling to particularly delicate skin, such as the periorbital area. They warn that hormonal and other components of the drugs can damage the skin and even provoke bleeding.
In any case, it is worth listening to the opinion of experts and, at the very least, not getting carried away with frequent application of such ointments to the periorbital area.
Pharmacodynamics
The pharmacodynamics of troxerutin is aimed at blocking hyaluronidase, which destroys hyaluron, which preserves the youth of the skin. The ointment increases the density of blood vessels, thereby reducing the amount of exudate.
Vitamin P supports blood vessels, improves cellular metabolism in tissues, and has other beneficial effects. Thanks to the substance, vascular tone improves, which in turn reduces the likelihood of blood clots.
The components of heparin ointment inhibit hyaluronidase, enhance the fibrinolytic properties of the blood, dilate capillaries, increasing the absorption of the substance.
The ointment for eye swelling Relief constricts local blood vessels, reduces the amount of exudate and swelling.
Dosing and administration
The methods of application and dosage of ointments for eye swelling are indicated in the instructions. It should be remembered that these preparations are intended only for external application to the skin surface, in problem areas. It is recommended to begin the procedure with cleansing the face with alcohol-free cosmetics. Light rubbing into the skin accelerates the beneficial effect.
To test the drug for tolerability, a small portion is applied to the earlobe or an inconspicuous area of the face.
Relief can also be used to eliminate wrinkles around the eyes and lips, avoiding contact with mucous membranes to avoid causing irritation.
When treating with heparin ointment, it is applied to an area of 3-4 cm at 0.5-1 g two or three times a day. Sometimes the daily frequency is increased to five times.
Troxevasin is applied to the face cleaned in the usual way: for mild swelling - once a day, for severe swelling and bruises - twice. In case of increased dryness, additional moisturizing with cream is recommended, applied after the ointment has been absorbed. The remaining ointment can be rubbed into the legs.
A quick effect is achieved with this method: a thick layer of troxevasin is applied under the eyes for half an hour, and after drying, it is washed off with water. It is recommended to carry out the procedure no more than twice a week.
- If you have candles of the same name with the same composition at hand, they are applied to the skin after preliminary melting in a water bath.
If any ointment gets into your eyes, rinse them thoroughly with water.
The duration of continuous treatment does not exceed one to two weeks, after which a break is needed.
Use ointments for swollen eyes during pregnancy
The use of ointments for eye swelling during pregnancy must be agreed upon with a doctor. The annotations indicate the following indications regarding pregnancy:
- heparin ointment and Relief are prohibited for use;
- hepatrombin - with caution;
- troxevasin – not allowed in the first trimester;
- Troxevasin Neo – permitted during pregnancy and lactation.
It is allowed to be prescribed, under the supervision of a physician, only in the presence of vascular diseases, injuries, and other serious problems.
Contraindications
Contraindications for the use of ointments for eye swelling:
- ulcers and skin necrosis,
- purulent wounds,
- profuse discharge from wounds,
- pregnancy,
- hypersensitivity.
The drugs are not recommended for use by children under 18 years of age, and for adults – on a regular basis, in large doses.
Side effects ointments for swollen eyes
Heparin ointment may cause redness, but this is not an allergy, so it usually goes away without a trace.
Troxevasin may cause local urticaria, eczema or dermatitis; such symptoms do not require discontinuation of the drug and resolve without treatment.
Some components (zinc, oak bark) of antihemorrhoidal ointments can dry out the skin of the face.
In most cases, there are no side effects from eye swelling ointments.

Overdose
When used correctly, ointments for eye swelling do not cause overdose symptoms.
Heparin ointment can provoke:
- hypersensitivity reactions;
- hives;
- dermatitis and irritation;
- bleeding;
- If used for too long – osteoporosis.
External use of troxevasin does not cause overdose. You should only avoid accidental contact with mucous membranes in large doses - to prevent poisoning.
Interactions with other drugs
Heparin ointment is not compatible with vasodilators (aspirin, arfin).
Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory and anticoagulant drugs enhance the effect of heparin, while antiallergic drugs, nicotine and tetracycline weaken it.
Troxevasin together with ascorbic acid enhances the strengthening effect on the walls of blood vessels.
Storage conditions
Ointments for eye swelling are kept in a cool, dry place at a temperature no higher than 25 degrees, in a cabinet or special first aid kit protected from children's access. It is not recommended to expose medications to very low temperatures.

Shelf life
Ointments for eye swelling retain their medicinal properties for two to five years. The expiration date should be clarified by the information indicated on the packaging.
An important argument for pharmacy ointments for eye swelling is their quality and affordable price. However, pharmacists created them for another purpose. This should be taken into account when choosing a method for getting rid of under-eye swelling. It is also necessary to remember that swelling can signal serious disorders in the body's functioning, which should be treated by a qualified specialist.
