The appearance of oxalic acid salts (oxalates) in the urinary system and urine is most often due to the characteristics of a person's diet. If such salts were detected once, this can be regarded as an accident after eating certain foods: sorrel, beets, cocoa and some other food components. However, if oxalates are detected during a repeated analysis, this may indicate a metabolic disorder in the body, which in turn can provoke the development of urolithiasis. For this reason, a diet for oxalates is necessary.

Diet for oxalates in urine

If oxalates are detected in a urine test, the doctor prescribes treatment, in which adherence to certain nutritional principles plays an important role. Each patient is advised to review their daily menu, excluding products containing oxalic acid. In particular, such products include coffee drinks and strong tea, chocolate and cocoa products, tomatoes, oranges and, in fact, sorrel. We will provide a complete list of prohibited products below.

The diet for oxalates in urine allows the consumption of dairy products, protein foods, bread made from premium flour and other products.

It is necessary to pay attention to the drinking regime and increase the amount of liquid consumed. During the day, it is necessary to drink at least two liters of clean water. This amount also includes weak green tea, compotes. Alkaline mineral water such as Borjomi, Polyana kvasova, Nabeglavi is recommended.

A good effect can be expected from drinking teas and decoctions based on medicinal herbs that help remove salts from the urinary system. Such herbs include knotweed, birch buds, strawberry leaves, horsetail, and corn silk.

Diet for oxalates in the kidneys

It has been proven that some foods we eat can contribute to the formation of oxalates in the kidneys. Oxalates are formed in the process of uric acid reaction: unfortunately, ignoring the principles of proper nutrition and balance of nutrients, as well as not observing the drinking regime, favor this process.

A proper diet for kidney oxalates can help remove some of the salts from the urinary system and prevent further stone formation.

In addition to excluding the list of prohibited products from the menu, it is necessary to limit the consumption of salt, as well as sausages, chips, salted nuts, crackers, that is, products that contain a large amount of sodium chloride.

It is recommended to eat foods that have a diuretic effect: apples, bananas, celery, nettle salad, and all kinds of greens.

To speed up the removal of oxalates, it is advisable to eat vegetables and other foods that contain vitamins A, B and D. Such vitamins can be found in large quantities in carrots, berries, and pumpkin.

We should not forget about the factors that disrupt metabolic processes in the body, which can lead to the formation of oxalates. Such factors include drinking alcohol, smoking, and excessive coffee consumption. Get rid of bad habits, follow recommendations for proper nutrition, do not neglect measured physical activity, lead an active lifestyle - and the disease will definitely recede.

Diet for urates and oxalates

Urate and oxalate are the most common salt crystals found in urine.

Urate appears after eating food containing purine compounds. This is meat broth, liver, heart, lungs, canned fish, legume dishes, herring. The appearance of urates is also associated with excessive coffee, chocolate, strong black tea, mushrooms and smoked products.

In small quantities, salts may appear after excessive physical activity, when following a protein diet, with dehydration, leukemia and fever.

If persistent urates are found in the urine, experts recommend drinking more pure water or alkaline non-carbonated mineral waters (2-2.5 liters), and also excluding products containing purine compounds from the menu. The diet is expanded by eating chicken and quail eggs, dairy products, vegetables, greens, fruits and berries, bakery products, and cereals.

If the urine analysis reveals the presence of oxalates and urates, it is necessary to increase the consumption of products containing vitamin B and magnesium. These are oatmeal, millet porridge, seaweed, fermented milk products, bananas and nuts.

In the daily menu, fried foods should be replaced with boiled ones. Fish and meat should be consumed no more than three times a week, eggs - no more than one per day.

Sour cream and cottage cheese, various types of bread, vegetarian first courses and vegetables are welcome in the diet. You can prepare dishes based on cereals with the addition of butter or vegetable oil.

What is the diet for oxalates?

If oxalates are detected in a urine test, the doctor may prescribe a special diet, which in medicine is defined as therapeutic table No. 6. Diet No. 6 is most suitable for people suffering from urolithiasis and gout. Nutrition based on this diet helps to normalize purine metabolism, reduce the precipitation of salts in the urine, and also shift the reaction of the urinary fluid towards alkali.

The diet menu provides for limiting salt intake and increasing fluid intake and alkalizing dishes: vegetables, dairy, fruit. It is necessary to reduce the intake of refractory fat with food. If the patient is overweight, the amount of carbohydrates in the diet is reduced.

Of great importance is the consumption of vegetables, berries and fruits, which have a diuretic effect, when dealing with oxalates:

  • watermelon - it is eaten fresh, up to 2-2.5 kg per day for kidney stones, cystitis, pyelonephritis, diseases that occur without visible edema caused by fluid retention in the body. Eating watermelon is recommended for urate, oxalate and cysteine urolithiasis, accompanied by the precipitation of salt sediment in an acidic urinary environment;
  • cabbage - white cabbage contains a large amount of potassium salts, which helps remove excess fluid from tissues;
  • Cranberries are an excellent bactericide and diuretic. The berries are eaten with honey or sugar, and are used to make compotes and fruit drinks;
  • strawberries - remove salt crystals from the urinary system. You can also use the leaves of the plant, brewing them as an infusion or adding them to tea;
  • dill greens - copes well with swelling. Can be added in any quantities to ready-made dishes, and also used as an infusion;
  • Barberry berries and leaves not only have a diuretic effect, but also actively relieve the signs and consequences of the inflammatory process;
  • gooseberries - enhance the removal of salts. The berries can be eaten raw, or used to make compotes, jams, and fruit drinks;
  • lettuce leaves - have diuretic properties, increase the amount of urine excreted. The leaves are eaten fresh in salads, or used for sandwiches or as an edible decoration when serving dishes;
  • melon - has a diuretic effect, in no way inferior to the famous watermelon, and not only the melon pulp has a diuretic effect, but also the seeds;
  • Pear – perfectly removes salts from the body. Used in the form of juices, compotes, or fresh.
