After birth, the baby is deprived of the sterile environment provided by the mother's womb. The baby encounters pathogens, they settle on the skin, mucous membranes and even on the walls of the intestine. Also bacteria penetrate into the child's body with mother's milk. Mother's milk is a natural probiotic for children.
Probiotics - are live microorganisms: bifidobacteria, lactic acid bacteria, lactobacilli and other components of healthy intestinal microflora. They are responsible for the synthesis of antibacterial substances, organic acids and other components that inhibit the growth of intestinal microflora.
Living microorganisms have these properties:
- Synthesize proteolytic enzymes, organic acids and vitamins, and inhibit bacterial growth.
- Destroy pathogenic flora.
- Improve the digestion of proteins and carbohydrates.
- Promote the production of antibodies, mucoproteins and cytokines.
They pass the entire gastrointestinal tract, stopping in the large intestine. They suppress the growth of harmful microflora, promote the formation of the body's defense functions and increase immunity. Probiotics are prescribed to newborns to treat intestinal cramps in case of lactose intolerance.
There are several dosage forms of probiotics:
- Dry - have a powdery appearance and are formed by gentle drying. The biomaterial is subjected to severe freezing and then placed in a vacuum. In the airless space, all liquid disappears and the beneficial bacteria take on a dormant state, i.e. Lyophilized form.
- Liquid - in contrast to the dry form better promotes the preservation of microorganisms viability. Bacteria are activated within 2-3 hours. Liquid preparations can be combined with prebiotics and other medicines.
Probiotics are also divided by composition: monocomponent, polycomponent, combined, sorbed. To restore healthy microflora in infants and to treat colic, most often prescribe such means:
- Acepol
Oil suspension with lactobacilli Lactobacillus rhamnosus and Bifidobacterium longum. The drug refers to multifactorial, as it has antagonistic activity against a wide range of pathogenic and opportunistic microorganisms. Corrects intestinal microflora, increases immunological properties of the body.
Appointed for babies from the first days of life, reduces the risk of dysbacteriosis, normalizes intestinal microflora and eliminates colic. Increases nonspecific resistance of the body. Improves the processes of enzymatic digestion of food. Promotes the synthesis of vitamins in the intestine and improves the absorption of nutrients.
- Bifiform
Biologically active supplement with immunologic action. Contains bifidobacteria and enterococci. Active components restore normal intestinal microflora, reduce gas formation and metabolize lactose.
Bifiform is prescribed to restore intestinal microflora in colic in infants, for patients with lactose intolerance, the state after prolonged antibiotic therapy, diarrhea and nutritional disorders.
- Creon
Medicinal capsules containing pancreatin. The active component has lipolytic, amylolytic and proteolytic properties, improves the absorption of food in the intestine. It is used in enzymatic insufficiency of various etiologies.
- Hilak Forte
Contains biosynthetic lactic acid and other probiotic components that restore the balance between normal and pathogenic microflora. Favorably affects the mucous membrane of the large and small intestine. Promotes the growth of acidophilic microflora. Used for the complex treatment of chronic lesions of the digestive system. Hilak Forte is effective in diarrhea, flatulence, constipation, intestinal spasms, allergic reactions.
Medicinal product affecting the digestive system and metabolic processes. It contains a substrate of metabolic products of Lactobacillus helveticus DSM, Escherichia coli, Enterococcus faecalis and Lactobacillus acidophilus. Normalizes intestinal flora, water-electrolyte balance and pH in the intestinal lumen, stimulates the synthesis of intestinal wall epithelium.
- Indications for use: violation of normal intestinal microflora due to antibiotic therapy, poor diet, surgical interventions on the stomach and intestines. Complex treatment of chronic lesions of the digestive system, non-ulcer dyspepsia. Intestinal spasms in children and adults, diarrhea, flatulence, constipation. Acute allergic diseases, decreased secretory function of the stomach.
- How to use: the drug is taken orally during or before meals, diluting in a small amount of water. For newborns and children under 2 years of age 10-15 drops, for children from 2 to 12 years of age 20-40 drops, for patients over 12 years of age 40-60 drops per reception. This dosage should be adhered to for the first three days, then it is reduced by half. The duration of therapy is determined individually for each patient.
- Contraindications: intolerance to the drug components, acute diarrhea with fever and blood in the feces. The drug is prohibited to mix with milk and dairy products. With caution, it is prescribed for patients with increased acidity of gastric juice and reflux esophagitis.
- Side effects: hypersensitivity reactions, abdominal discomfort. No cases of overdose have been recorded. If the child has taken undiluted preparation, it may cause reflex regurgitation, laryngospasm or aspiration pneumonia.
Form of release: oral drops, solution. 1 ml of Hilak forte contains 25-30 drops.
- Enterogermina
Contains Bacillus clausii spores and other microorganisms that are part of healthy intestinal microflora. It is used to treat patients with various digestive disorders, microflora imbalance and vitamin balance disorders of endogenous etiology. For newborns, an oral suspension is prepared by diluting the drug in milk, water or tea. Duration of therapy is from 6 to 14 days.
You should consult your doctor before using probiotics to treat colic.
- Similac
Similac formula is a baby food manufactured in the Netherlands. It contains prebiotics, probiotics, nucleotides, vitamins and minerals. The unique composition is aimed at treating and preventing the main digestive problems of infants: colic, constipation, regurgitation, intestinal dysbiosis.
Popular blends:
- Comfort - promotes the formation of soft stools, reduces the frequency of constipation. Contains live bifidobacteria and prebiotics, which form a healthy intestinal microflora. Easily digestible hydrolyzed whey protein and a small amount of lactose to prevent gas formation. The formula also contains a complex of macro and micronutrients.
- Premium - contains omega fatty acids, bifidobacteria, prebiotics, lutein, vitamins and minerals. The interaction of all components protects the GI tract from irritation, bloating and spasms.
- Low-lactose - for children with lactase deficiency. Reduces gas and intestinal spasms. 98% lactose-free formula, contains prebiotics, nucleotides for the immune system and IQ complex for the brain and vision.
To prepare Similac formula, a scoop of dry powder is poured into 60 ml of water and mixed thoroughly until completely dissolved. It is better to prepare the preparation immediately in a bottle and use it within an hour after preparation.
- Primadophilus
Biologically active supplement, affects the digestive system and normalizes intestinal microflora. Contains a complex of probiotic substances - lacto and bifidobacteria, which populate the intestine and restore its healthy microflora. Increase the body's resistance to pathogenic bacteria, allergens and viruses, strengthen the overall immunity.
- Indications for use: flatulence and colic in newborns and older children, frequent belching. Activation of protective systems of the digestive tract, normalization of water-electrolyte metabolism and metabolism. Dysbacteriosis due to GI diseases, lactase deficiency.
- Directions for use: orally, ½ teaspoon for infants 10 minutes before the first feeding. The supplement is diluted in warm boiled water. For children over 6 years and adults 1 capsule with meals. Duration of therapy 2-4 weeks.
