For most pregnant women, the most difficult thing to overcome is morning sickness. If you experience nausea and vomiting every morning, you need to take certain measures. The best way to combat these symptoms is at home. Follow the recommendations below to improve your well-being, and you will certainly get rid of these unpleasant symptoms.

  • Keep track of when, what and how much you eat.
  • Consume ginger, vitamin B6 and B12, which relieve symptoms of nausea and vomiting during pregnancy.
  • Avoid foods and odors that trigger symptoms of nausea and vomiting.
  • Try massaging the biologically active points. This helps some women.
  • Take doxylamine with vitamin B6, which is available over the counter but check with your doctor first.

If you have constant nausea and vomiting, you should visit a doctor without delay. If they are not eliminated, there is a risk of dehydration and exhaustion of the body. In some cases, pregnant women with severe toxicosis have to be hospitalized and treated with medication.

What is morning sickness?

Morning sickness ranges from mild to severe, prolonged, and with unbearable vomiting and nausea. Symptoms may be particularly severe in the morning, although they can occur at any time of day.

The nature of morning sickness is not yet fully understood, and morning sickness is often associated with elevated estrogen levels and other hormonal changes in the first trimester of pregnancy.

  • The first signs of morning sickness usually develop during the first month of pregnancy, when the menstrual cycle stops and hormonal levels increase.
  • Women who are carrying twins or more are particularly susceptible to morning sickness symptoms. There is no way to predict how long it will last. Symptoms usually subside by 12 to 14 weeks of pregnancy, although in some cases they persist throughout the pregnancy.

Who to contact?

Why is it important to combat morning sickness?

Morning sickness usually occurs in the first trimester of pregnancy, when the fetus is susceptible to developing birth defects. Therefore, during this period, you should try to combat the symptoms of morning sickness at home until the doctor prescribes medications.

In severe cases of toxicosis, constant nausea and vomiting provoke weight loss and dehydration, so you will need drug treatment.

How to combat morning sickness?

There are general recommendations for eliminating morning sickness, but still, only a few feel better. In this case, taking ginger or doxylamine has a noticeable effect.

  • Certain types of antihistamines, such as doxylamine or dimenhydrinate, can relieve morning sickness symptoms when prescribed by a doctor. If symptoms do not improve, vitamin B6 may be added.
  • Regular consumption of ginger in powder, capsules or ground into tea significantly alleviates the symptoms of morning sickness after a few days of use.
  • Vitamins B6 and B12.
  • Acupressure (massage of certain points) also helps relieve nausea and vomiting in some women.

For symptoms of morning sickness during pregnancy:

  • Snack frequently. An empty stomach can trigger vomiting.
  • Before getting out of bed, have a snack, such as a cracker, wait a few minutes, and only then slowly get out of bed.
  • Drink plenty of fluids (water, juices, etc.).
  • Eat more protein and less fat.
  • Avoid smells and foods that trigger nausea. Citrus juice, milk, coffee, etc. are provocateurs of morning sickness.
  • Avoid supplements that contain iron. They are not necessary during the first trimester of pregnancy.
  • Get plenty of rest. Stress and fatigue make symptoms worse.

Contact your doctor immediately if you vomit more than three times a day and are unable to drink fluids, or if you have pain or fever.
