Herbal treatment during pregnancy is one of the options to maintain pregnancy if a woman already has certain pathologies of the cardiovascular, urinary, respiratory systems, as well as rheumatism, endocrine system problems. In such situations, synthetic drugs can not only cause side effects, but also negatively affect the health of the child, and cause termination of pregnancy.
Herbal treatment, taking into account the health condition of the pregnant woman, will help to avoid exacerbations of the disease during the entire pregnancy cycle, which is a fairly common fact. Medicinal herbs contain no fewer useful elements than fruits and vegetables. In addition, medicinal plants help remove metabolic products from the body, stabilize metabolism, and normalize cholesterol levels. Nervous activity also improves, sleep is normalized, and water-salt balance is restored.
Only the attending physician has the right to prescribe herbal treatment during pregnancy. Many herbal mixtures not only have a direct effect, but can also accumulate in the body's tissues. Further absorption of active substances at the cellular level cannot be predicted. Therefore, more attention should be paid to the method of preparing the dosage form and dosage.
Herbs for cough during pregnancy
Herbs for cough during pregnancy can be considered the most successful alternative to synthetic drugs. However, it is necessary to strictly adhere to the dosage of herbal collection and select it strictly based on the type of cough.
The most acceptable and effective option is steam inhalation on herbal decoction. Do not forget that inhalation cannot be done at elevated temperatures. After the procedure, it is better not to talk for some time and not to overcool. Infusions for inhalation can be made on the basis of the following herbs - sage, eucalyptus leaves, pine extract.
Laryngitis, tracheitis, bronchitis, accompanied by a dry, hacking cough can be relieved by taking herbs. But it is not advisable to completely replace drug treatment for such difficult diseases in this way. A decoction based on plantain, rose hips, primrose and chamomile, taken in equal proportions, should be taken one third of a glass 4 times a day.
For a wet cough, expectorant infusions will be relevant. You can prepare an infusion of two parts of crushed rose hips, linden flowers, dried apples, 0.5 teaspoon of coltsfoot herb and chamomile flowers.
Portable inhalers come with special herbal mixtures, but their composition must be studied very carefully, as they may contain herbs that are prohibited during pregnancy.
Expectorant herbs during pregnancy
Expectorant herbs during pregnancy help speed up the discharge of secretions from the bronchi, which will help avoid complications from the respiratory system. But herbs should not always be used as the main method of treatment. During pregnancy, the following natural expectorants can be used:
- Licorice root in syrup;
- Marshmallow rhizome;
- Mucaltin (herbal lozenges);
- Breast collection (combined herbal tea).
In the first trimester of pregnancy, when coughing, it is better to refuse to take ambroxol, lazolvan, flavamed or take them under the supervision of a doctor and in strictly prescribed doses. In the second and third trimesters, when wet coughing, you can use fluditek and fluifort. These drugs can be taken in the absence of contraindications and individual tolerance to all components in the composition.
Other combined herbal teas also help with wet coughs, but it is best to take them in small doses (a quarter of a glass three to four times a day). And use expectorant herbs during pregnancy only if the herbal tea does not contain herbs that are contraindicated during pregnancy at any stage. To be completely sure that the chosen treatment method is safe, it is better to consult with your doctor before use.

Herbs for colds during pregnancy
Herbs for colds during pregnancy should be used very carefully, so as not to harm the future child through your own ignorance. It is almost impossible to protect yourself from a cold during the entire period of pregnancy, even if you minimize contacts with the outside world during the cold season. Another problem is that during pregnancy the body's defenses are reduced, because of this the risk of catching the flu or acute respiratory infections is very high.
During pregnancy, it is better to fight a cold with folk remedies, without using alcohol tinctures and synthetic drugs. You cannot take such immune-stimulating drugs as: echinacea, magnolia vine, zamaniha, leuzea, ginseng, rosea rhodiola. These drugs affect the tone of the uterine muscles and the fetal heart rate. The most effective and harmless way to fight a cold is to take horseradish juice with sugar in a one-to-one ratio.
You can also fight a runny nose during pregnancy without synthetic drugs. It is good to rinse the nasal cavity with a warm, weak saline solution or a decoction of chamomile at room temperature, and if this method is inconvenient, then drip Aquamaris or Saline into the nose.
The main thing when you have a cold is to fight dehydration and support your body with vitamin drinks. Decoctions of rose hips, chamomile, blackcurrant twigs and raspberries have a good effect on the body. Viburnum berries added to tea will act as an anti-inflammatory and antipyretic drug.

Choleretic herbs during pregnancy
Choleretic herbs are necessary during pregnancy, because many pregnant women have hypomotor dyskinesia - a violation of the activity of the gallbladder and ducts due to the effect of progesterone on them. Progesterone relaxes the smooth muscles of the body, because of this the gallbladder is not completely emptied, which leads to stagnation in it and dysfunction of the digestive process.
The first sign of dyskinesia is pain on the right side under the ribs. The pain may be dull and aching, or it may simply be a feeling of heaviness. At the same time, there is a bitter taste in the mouth, heartburn, flatulence, and belching.
The fundamental principle of treating hypomotor dyskinesia in pregnant women is diet therapy (diet No. 5). The menu should include products that improve the outflow of bile, as well as mineral waters Essentuki No. 4, No. 17. The most effective and useful way to improve the outflow of bile in a pregnant woman is to drink choleretic herbal decoctions. The main components are corn silk, peppermint, dill and its seeds, rose hips, barberry root. Decoctions should be drunk in an amount of no more than a third of a glass before each meal. Decoctions are especially useful in the second half of pregnancy, as they not only have a choleretic effect, but also regulate the functioning of the urinary system.
If you experience pain in the right hypochondrium and a rise in temperature, you should see a doctor as soon as possible to determine the cause of bile stasis and, if necessary, adjust the treatment.
Herbs for kidneys during pregnancy
Herbs for kidneys during pregnancy are a great substitute for synthetic drugs. Women suffer from kidney inflammation much more often than men, and during pregnancy this problem occurs much more often, and there are a number of reasons for this:
- Many chronic diseases become worse during pregnancy.
- Constant changes in hormonal levels during pregnancy also have a negative impact on the condition of the kidneys.
- In later stages, due to the enlargement of the uterus, the outflow of urine is disrupted, which also provokes inflammation.
- Descending infection (in dental diseases, etc.)
In case of exacerbation of glomerulonephritis, you need to drink a herbal infusion, which includes motherwort, St. John's wort, wild violet, horsetail, and rose hips. The decoction should be drunk in small portions, 100 ml. 3 times a day before meals for a course of 2 months.
In the non-acute period, for prevention purposes, you can drink a decoction of a mixture of dandelion root, birch buds, chamomile flowers, nettle leaves, lingonberry leaves, 100 ml. three times a day. The course also lasts 2 months with a two-week break, after which the course of prevention should be repeated.
If kidney disease has made itself known, the first thing you need to do is not self-medicate, but immediately contact a general practitioner who will prescribe the main treatment, but under the supervision of a gynecologist. Herbs for the kidneys during this period should be taken in order to reduce inflammation, and after recovery for prevention purposes.
Diuretic herbs during pregnancy
Diuretic herbs are irreplaceable during pregnancy, especially in the second half, when diuresis control is especially important for the life of the mother and fetus. Due to excessive swelling during pregnancy, it is necessary to take diuretic herbs, which, unlike synthetic drugs, do not put a strain on other body systems.
The most common natural remedy against edema is a decoction of lingonberry leaves. Birch buds and birch leaves, horsetail, and bearberry leaves also have a pronounced effect. Diuretic decoctions based on viburnum, linden blossom, and mint are also useful, but the intake of these herbs should be agreed upon with the doctor supervising the pregnancy.
Diuretic herbs during pregnancy should be taken after a preliminary consultation with a doctor also because some diuretics are unacceptable during pregnancy. Herbs such as parsley root, juniper berries, and strawberry berries can lead to hypertonicity of smooth muscles and provoke miscarriage and premature birth. In addition to a phytocomplex of diuretic herbs during pregnancy, a diet with a minimum salt content is prescribed (excluding fatty, spicy, smoked, fried foods, and tomato juice). In general, such a set of measures helps maintain normal water-salt balance.
