Step 1: Splitting

When you eat fatty, high-calorie foods, your small intestine breaks down the fat molecules into glycerol or fatty acids, which are then released into your bloodstream.

Step 2: Accumulation

Fatty acids circulate throughout the body and are absorbed into fat cells, where they are collected into fat molecules and stored until the next fast. Excess glucose and amino acids are also absorbed by fat cells and converted into fat molecules. If hunger does not occur, you begin to gain weight.

Step 3: Body Fat

In men, fat most often accumulates under the skin in the abdominal area, resulting in a beer belly or fat rolls around the waist. Some guys accumulate subcutaneous fat, the kind that sits around your internal organs. If you have a round, hard belly, a waist that's larger than your hips, or you're a size 10, you're in this situation. The theory: Your body is looking for extra space to store excess fat - and it's stored inside your organs, or worse, inside your muscles, heart, liver, or pancreas.

Step 4: Eliminate Risks

There is a direct link between the amount of subcutaneous fat in men and the risks of diseases such as insulin resistance, high LDL, low HDL, elevated triglycerides, and even high blood pressure. The reason: fat that accumulates around your liver. This produces cholesterol, which in turn clogs your arteries, putting you at risk for stroke, heart disease, and diabetes. If you want to avoid the risks, you'll have to give up the donuts.

Step 5: Get Rid of Fat

Abdominal fat is the most difficult fat to get rid of. But if you eat the right foods and do the right exercises, it doesn't stand a chance.
