For many, potato is the second bread, without it the first dishes are unthinkable, it is an integral part of many salads, it is a popular side dish, so only a serious illness can exclude it from our human diet.
Potato is an affordable and unique food product among vegetables, it is rich in carbohydrates, contains healthy fats (MUFA and PUFA), a significant amount of vitamin C, fiber and potassium. [1] In traditional European medicine, raw potatoes are used for gastrointestinal and dyspeptic disorders. [2]
Indications
And how does potato affect digestion and is it possible with gastritis?
Can potatoes with gastritis?
This root crop can be prepared so that it is useful and acts as a medicine for the stomach, or it can be made an undesirable product or even harmful.
Gastritis includes pathologies caused by inflammation of the gastric mucosa, its various defects, loss of the ability of the secretory glands to normally produce digestive enzymes for food processing, and weakening of the motor functions of the organ.
Symptoms are manifested either acutely, painfully, or turn into a more relaxed chronic state, periodically reminding oneself when deviating from the rules of nutrition: excessive use of alcohol, spicy, fried, sour; from stressful situations; drug treatment.
Different conditions of the stomach allow you to consume one or another type of potato.
Potatoes for gastritis with high acidity
With increased acidity, excessive release of hydrochloric acid occurs, which is an aggressive environment relative to the gastric mucosa. Therefore, enveloping food, which will protect the walls of the organ from aggressive factors and the progression of the inflammatory process, will have a positive effect. Potato in its composition contains starch, which is the same protective mechanism.
Hyperacid gastritis allows you to eat potatoes in soups, boiled whole in their uniforms, without peel, mashed potatoes, baked, stewed (without the addition of fats). A raw root vegetable and juice from it generally has a healing property.
Potatoes with exacerbation of gastritis
Exacerbation of gastritis requires a more strict diet, but it also has a place for potatoes. Baked - the best dietary dish, mashed potatoes of liquid consistency on the water with the addition of a small amount of butter is also suitable.
But it will relieve pain, inflammation in case of increased acidity juice from potatoes. With atrophic gastritis, which is characterized by secretory insufficiency, it will only harm, therefore, under a ban.
Benefits
The most useful young potato grown on its site without the use of chemicals to control weeds and pests. Firstly, it is an easily digestible vegetable carbon guide, and secondly, it contains vitamins C, K, PP, group B, from minerals potassium, phosphorus, calcium, iron, magnesium, sodium, zinc, bromine, silicon, copper, etc. Solids in potato tubers are the most starchy, there is protein with all the amino acids found in plants, sugars, pectin, organic acids. Cooked potatoes contain 544 mg of potassium / 100 g and 27 mg of magnesium / 100 g, which is 12% and 7% of the daily intake of potassium and magnesium recommended by the US Institute of Medicine. [3]
Potato has an antioxidant effect. [4], [5] Also demonstrated a cholesterol-lowering, anti-inflammatory, counteracting obesity, anticancer and antidiabetic effects. [6] Potato glycoalkaloids, α-chaconine, α-solanine and solanidin, as well as potato peel extracts, have anti-inflammatory effects in vitro. [7]
Complications
Potatoes are generally considered high glycemic index (GI) foods. The highest GI values are for mashed potatoes, the average for baked potatoes, french fries and potato chips. [8] At least 17 studies have been conducted, mostly observational, studying the relationship between nutritional factors and type 2 diabetes. Only 2 studies (case-control and cross-section) reported a significant association between potato consumption and the risk of developing DM 2. [9] Epidemiological data showed a relationship between consumption of potato products and weight gain (Mozaffarian et al. 2011), but these studies did not separate the effect ingredients added during cooking / processing, such as fat, or other foods consumed with potatoes. [10]
Complications are possible from the increase in glycemic index, as well as exacerbation of gastritis in case of unclear acidity and its mismatch with the action of potatoes on the walls of the stomach.
Dish recipes
There are many recipes for potato dishes, so before you use them, you need to select those that correspond to dietary principles.
In no case should you eat chips, only with prolonged remission occasionally allow yourself fried potatoes, potato pancakes, refuse to extinguish it using fatty meats.
Boiled potatoes are very easy to prepare. The tubers are washed well, poured with water, after boiling, salt, brought to readiness. After cleaning, it can be poured with oil or sauce and eat on the side dish, in this form it is used for salads.
To make mashed potatoes, you must first clean the root crops, then boil in water, which then merges. The potatoes themselves are thoroughly kneaded, diluted to the desired consistency with warm milk, and butter is added. With low acidity, milk is not poured into the puree, but a little liquid is left in which it was boiled.
Mashed potatoes are used for cooking casseroles. In a form greased with vegetable oil, lay a layer of potatoes, on it minced meat from lean meat (as for cutlets, but without bread), cover with mashed potatoes, grease with a beaten egg and bake.

It is prepared immediately before use, especially since it is not difficult to do. Pure potatoes are peeled, rubbed on a fine grater, filtered through cheesecloth. Treatment is best for them at the end of summer or autumn, when a new crop arrives.
