The patient's diet plays an important role in alleviating the painful, uncomfortable symptoms of stomatitis. The inflamed oral cavity reacts sharply to food intake, and an exacerbation of the process often makes it impossible in principle. Therefore, nutrition for stomatitis should be as gentle as possible, such that it will not be an additional irritant. Regardless of the type of inflammatory process, the diet should be fractional. The menu is made taking into account the age and condition of the patient, that is, individually.

However, there are also some general rules that nutrition provides for diseases of the oral cavity:

  1. Any product should be as finely chopped as possible. Meat and fish are consumed only in the form of minced meat, vegetables and fruits - in the form of puree.
  2. All products must be thoroughly washed and heat-treated. It is not allowed to eat raw vegetables, fruits or berries.
  3. Spicy, sweet, sour and spicy dishes are strictly prohibited.
  4. The menu should consist of dishes rich in vitamins and microelements, this is necessary to maintain the body's tone and to activate the immune defense.
  5. The food should be at a comfortable temperature, that is, not too cold or too hot.
  6. After each meal, it is necessary to thoroughly clean the oral cavity using rinses.
  7. In cases of exacerbation of inflammation and development of extensive erosions, liquid food should be taken through a straw.
  8. The menu can include freshly squeezed juices (not sour), for example, carrot or cabbage. This promotes faster epithelialization of the mucous membrane.
  9. To maintain normal microflora both in the intestines and in the oral cavity, fermented milk products are included in the menu. Kefir, yoghurts without dyes and fruit additives are especially useful.
  10. Daily consumption of blackberries or raspberries (due to the salicylates they contain) has a positive effect on digestion and oral health.
  11. Dried fruit compotes are healthy and contain many vitamins and microelements.
  12. Despite the fact that the diet for stomatitis does not include the use of spices and seasonings, grated horseradish or garlic can be included in the menu of an adult. Of course, these products should be eaten in minimal doses as an additional means of helping to neutralize inflammation.

Diet for stomatitis

Stomatitis provokes severe irritation of the oral mucosa, its ulceration, so any food can cause severe pain. It is quite natural that the patient needs a diet, with stomatitis it plays an important role in the overall therapeutic complex. If we generalize the multiple recommendations on nutrition, we can highlight the following rules:

  • Limiting sugary foods as much as possible helps reduce the severity of symptoms and speed up recovery.
  • You should avoid spicy, acidic and acidic foods that can irritate the damaged mucous membrane.
  • It is necessary to exclude cocoa products, coffee, and chocolate from the menu.
  • All food should be at a gentle temperature; hot or too cold foods can increase pain.
  • Food should be of liquid consistency, preferably in the form of puree, liquid porridge, soups.
  • The menu should include dishes containing a complex of vitamins to activate and strengthen the immune system.

The diet for stomatitis has its own specifics, unfortunately, today there is no single recommended menu similar to the famous numbered "tables" according to Pevzner. However, experience and practice show that there is a list of safe, gentle products that can be included in the menu of a patient with stomatitis.

What does a diet for stomatitis include?

  • All dairy and fermented milk products.
  • Cottage cheese, yogurts without additives and preservatives.
  • Melon, watermelon, bananas, fruits that do not have a sour taste.
  • Vegetable juices – carrot, cabbage.
  • Boiled ground meat, steamed cutlets, casseroles.
  • Low-fat, lightly salted soups and broths.
  • Soft cheeses.
  • Herbal teas, infusions.
  • Juice from apricots, grapes, pears.
  • Raspberry, blueberry and currant juice – not concentrated.
  • Liquid viscous porridges – oatmeal, semolina, rice.
  • Puddings, jelly, soufflé.
  • Ice cream without preservatives and additives, natural ice cream is best.
