How to distinguish hormonal imbalance from other diseases?

How to distinguish hormonal imbalance from other diseases?

An imbalance in hormone levels in the body can easily be confused with symptoms of various diseases, especially of the reproductive system and thyroid gland.

With these diseases, the level of sex hormones and those produced by the thyroid gland decreases. This can cause depression, ovarian diseases, chronic candidiasis, insomnia and other bad conditions of the body.

The main thing is to distinguish hormonal imbalance from chronic diseases, the symptoms of which may be similar to the symptoms of hormonal instability.

Medical examination on your own

To observe the state of your body and clearly know the picture of your well-being, you should use the following analytical methods.

Medical card

What's so special about that, you might say? Everyone has a medical record. But yours will be special, uniquely yours. And it will contain not only records of your health, but also the health of your family members, and changes in their well-being.

Paste the results of tests and X-rays there and be sure to write down the dates. This way you will be able to analyze the information about periods of exacerbations and periods favorable for health. This will allow you to take all measures before exacerbations and eliminate them.

Examining ourselves

You can do this without a doctor's help for now. Every month, immediately after your period, examine your mammary glands. Are they swollen? Are there any painful sensations? Are there any lumps that you can feel with your fingers?

If you notice any untoward symptoms, consult your doctor immediately for further examination.

Monitor whether new moles appear and how old ones look. Are there any hardenings on them, or is there any fluid secreted? It is better to conduct such an examination once every 6 months until the age of 35.

After 35 years, it is important to be examined more often - every month. If you find suspicious symptoms - consult a doctor.

Regular check-ups with your doctor

Ideally, this should be your family doctor, who is aware of your medical history and heredity. What is important to examine and keep records of?

  1. Weight and height - every year
  2. Blood pressure – at the age of 14-40 – every year. At the age of over 40 – every 4 months (if pressure changes do not bother you).
  3. After the age of 50 – every month.
  4. If you are prone to high or low blood pressure – every week.

Blood pressure should be measured individually as recommended by your doctor and as often as he or she recommends if you suffer from the following factors.

  • Pressure drops (sharp)
  • You are taking hormones as recommended by your doctor.
  • You have had surgery to remove your uterus or ovaries
  • If you have heart and vascular diseases
  • If you are obese (at least 10% overweight)
  • If you smoke
  • If you abuse alcohol
  • If you have diabetes or are at risk for it
  • If you have thyroid disease
  • If you have chronic kidney and liver diseases

Pelvic examination

It is done once a year or twice after a person has started having sex. After 40 years, such examinations are needed more often – once a year.

If a woman at any age, including young women, has had surgery on the uterus and ovaries, as well as tumor removal, it is necessary to examine the pelvic organs at least once every 3 years.

Smear examination

They need to be done every year after a woman has started having sex.

If smears show a negative result, they are done once every 1-3 years at the age of 18 to 40 years.

Once a woman reaches 40 years of age, smears should be done once a year.

Once every three years, smears should be done after operations on the uterus and ovaries, and removal of tumors.

Biopsy of tissue inside the uterus (endometrium)

This should be done every year. Especially for those people who are intolerant to progestin, estrogen and progesterone (female sex hormones).

It is especially important to get tested if you have…

  • Delays or absence of ovulation
  • Hereditary predisposition to infertility
  • Bleeding on days other than menstruation
  • Hormonal therapy - estrogens, particularly after menopause
  • If you still continue to bleed after menopause
  • If you are taking psychotropic drugs

Bone density

This is done after 40 years inclusive. If a woman has a tendency to brittle bones, the bone density test is done earlier. A safe diagnostic method is considered to be the X-ray absorptiometry method.

If you measure your back and hips using this method, it will give you an accurate picture of your bone diseases.

This is because the bones of the hips and spine deteriorate faster than the bones of the wrists or feet. Therefore, the initial stage of bone tissue destruction is clearly visible precisely from these tests.

  • If there is a history of cancer in the family, it is better to have a mammogram before age 35.
  • The frequency of examinations should be at least once every 1-2 years at the age of 40-50 years.
  • The frequency of examinations should be at least once a year if the woman is already 50 years old.
  • The frequency of examinations should be at least once a year up to the age of 35, if there were cancer patients in the family.

Rectum: examination

During this examination, it is possible to find out if there is bleeding in the rectum that is not visible. This examination is done once a year after the age of 40.

Colonoscopy method

With its help, polyps, bleeding, tumors can be detected. This is done after 50 years every 3 years.

If a person has relatives with cancer, or suffers from tumors, hidden or obvious, a colonoscopy is performed every year.
