A child's height and weight chart is the question that young parents, especially mothers, start looking for an answer to, starting from the baby's first birthday. Indeed, it is visually difficult to track the growth and weight dynamics of a small child, with whom the mother is almost every minute. How to determine how small a person has grown, whether he is gaining weight according to the norms, or perhaps his body weight is insufficient for his age. A standard chart recommended by pediatricians comes to the rescue. Of course, its norms are quite conditional, because each child develops according to his own individual plan. However, many years, almost centuries of experience in obstetric observations allows us to formulate standards for the dynamics of growth and weight.

"Child's height and weight table" - in response to the search question we suggest the following actions:

  • Draw a horizontal line on a sheet of paper - this will be the abscissa axis. The vertical line, accordingly, will be the ordinate axis. The baby's weight, measurements in grams, should be regularly marked on the horizontal line. The vertical line is the child's age, expressed in weeks.
  • Choose a specific day of the week, such as Monday. Weigh your baby every Monday and record the readings on the chart.
  • Starting from the second week of drawing up the chart, a curved line appears, which will show the gradual dynamics of weight gain.

Leave the same chart for measuring the child's height. It is possible to create a single chart with different color markers for weight and height on the abscissa axis. Such a chart is more informative and simply convenient.

A smooth curve showing a uniform increase in weight and height of the baby is considered normal. It happens that the indicators seem to freeze in place, this is not a deviation from the norm. The baby is simply accumulating strength for a further breakthrough in development. The main rule in the first three months of a child's life is a daily weight gain of up to 30 grams on average. Also, increased growth can slightly reduce weight indicators, this should not cause alarm - the child simply decided to grow up first, and only then gain muscle mass.

Child's height and weight: table

month weight gain (g) weight amount height gain (cm) growth amount
1 600 600 3 3
2 750 1350 3 6
3 800 2150 2.5 8.5
4 750 2900 2.5 11
5 700 3600 2 13
6 650 4250 2 15
7 600 4850 2 17
8 550 5400 2 19
9 500 5900 1.5 20.5
10 450 6350 1.5 22
11 400 6750 1.5 23.5
12 350 7100 1.5 25

You can also use the following formula:

In the first six months, the baby should gain about 800 grams monthly (plus or minus 50 grams), in the second half of the year the norm is slightly reduced - about 350-400 grams each month. Growth will be more intensive at first - 2.5-3 centimeters, and then the norms decrease to 1.5-1 centimeter.

The table should not limit the child's height and weight at all. If your child is healthy, he has every right to develop according to his own rules, and tables and graphs are needed to check them from time to time. In any case, such a check will not be superfluous, the main thing is that it is not a reason for false alarm of caring parents.
