The diet for urticaria is an integral part of the treatment, since this disease belongs to a heterogeneous group of dermatoses, which in most cases develop as allergic reactions to various provoking factors.
Among such factors: taking drugs, infections, exposure to chemicals in the workplace and household chemicals, sun rays and hypothermia, insect bites and pollen from plants. But the diet for urticaria is needed, basically, when the appearance of itchy blisters on the reddened skin is caused by eating foods that the human body does not tolerate.
It should be emphasized that the peculiarity of the diet for this disease is that it is a hypoallergenic diet for hives.
Treatment of urticaria with diet
A doctor should prescribe treatment for urticaria. You can ask, what - the dermatologist or the allergist? And this is a good question, because from the point of view of localization this disease belongs to dermatology, and if you take into account its etiology, it is allergic. Therefore, it is necessary to determine precisely the cause of the pathology that has arisen. And here, too, not everything is so simple: the doctors themselves admit that unified medical and diagnostic approaches to urticaria are not yet available, and only 50% of the cases reveal the true cause of the acute form of urticaria. In other cases, the origin of this disease remains unspecified, and doctors diagnose "idiopathic urticaria."
In addition, urticaria can be not only a separately manifested reaction of the body, but also a symptom of an infection, the presence of an autoimmune systemic disease (systemic lupus erythematosus, rheumatoid arthritis, Sjogren's syndrome, etc.) or pathology of the digestive system and gastrointestinal tract. So, what kind of diet for urticaria is needed in each case, depends on the cause.
In clinical practice, it is commonly believed that the most common cause of acute urticaria is food products (especially containing various additives and preservatives). And although the manifestation of a skin reaction as an indicator of the body's hypersensitivity to a particular product is not of an immune nature (i.e., IgE-mediated), but outwardly it looks like an obvious allergy. Proceeding from this, experts call it "pseudoallergie". But compliance with a hypoallergenic diet for hives, according to most of them, is one of the main conditions for recovery.
Diet in acute urticaria
When appointing a diet for acute urticaria it is recommended to include in the diet such products:
- cereals, except for semolina;
- fermented milk products (without any additives);
- raw cheese;
- Low-fat meat (beef, rabbit, turkey);
- cabbage of all kinds (except red-headed), zucchini, pumpkin, fresh green peas and string beans, dill and parsley;
- Apples (with green or yellow skin), pears, yellow cherries, white currants and gooseberries;
- butter, refined vegetable oil;
- grain bread or bread.
Diet for chronic urticaria
According to many allergic doctors, often chronic urticaria accompanies pathological conditions of the gastrointestinal tract, gallbladder and liver. And urticaria manifests itself in parallel with the aggravation of the underlying disease. Therefore, in such cases, a therapeutic diet № 5 with restriction of consumption of fats, table salt and liquid is prescribed. In fact, it is observed by patients and as a diet for chronic urticaria
Diet №5 allows to use: low-fat beef and chicken (boiled or baked); lean fish (boiled or steamed); low-fat cottage cheese and low-fat sour cream; butter (50 g per day); porridge and vegetarian soups with vegetables, cereals or pasta; beans and vegetables; non-acid fruits and berries.
With this diet you can not eat: fatty meat and fish; meat, fish and mushroom broths; fresh bread and buns; green onions, spinach, radish, radish and sorrel; smoked products and canned food; spicy seasonings (pepper, mustard, horseradish). Also prohibited are ice cream, confectionery with cream, black coffee, cocoa, chocolate and, of course, alcoholic beverages.
Diet after hives
Hypoallergenic diet for hives should be observed for at least a month or, as allergists note, until the signs of hives completely disappear. And only after that in the diet can gradually (and in minimum quantities) return products that have been tabooed. But this is only on the condition that the product did not lead to a relapse of the disease.
Doctors recommend a diary. In it, the patient needs to be fixed, what he ate and when, and most importantly - did not develop hives. Thus, you can accurately establish the product-allergen and as accurately as possible to determine which foods should exclude the diet after hives.
Diet after urticaria is also related to cooking technology: the preferred type of cooking is cooking or steaming.
