A disease such as gastritis has long been considered one of the most common pathologies in the world. Gastritis with high acidity is especially often diagnosed - this is an inflammation of the gastric mucous layer, which is accompanied by an increase in the concentration of hydrochloric acid in the stomach. Any doctor who makes such a diagnosis will always point out the need to follow a special diet. Among a large number of recommendations, the doctor may advise eating porridge for gastritis with high acidity - this is not only useful, but can also help relieve the main symptoms of the disease.

Indications
Perhaps the first dish that doctors recommend to absolutely all patients with gastritis is porridge from various grains. However, not all types of porridge can be useful for sick people. Some of them are preferable, and others will have to be abandoned. We will talk about this below.
With almost any type of gastritis, it is recommended to eat cereals such as buckwheat, oatmeal, rice and semolina. The listed cereals do not have an irritating or damaging effect on the inflamed walls of the stomach, but on the contrary, they protect them, enveloping them with a kind of protective film. In addition, such cereals bring great benefit to the entire body: they provide a sufficient amount of nutrients, add energy and saturate.
Many patients perceive cereals only as side dishes, necessarily supplemented with a piece of meat or fish. But this is not so: porridge is a complete, self-sufficient dish. If you regularly consume about 250 g of porridge per day, the body will receive a sufficient amount of vitamins and microelements.
Benefits
The benefits of porridges for gastritis with high acidity can be described at length. Therefore, we will focus on the main beneficial properties of porridges:
- Porridges for gastritis eliminate pain, strengthen, and prevent relapse of the inflammatory process;
- Porridges restore the level of vitamins in the body (in particular, vitamins A, K, tocopherol, nicotinic acid);
- Porridges contain a large number of important microelements, such as zinc, iron, etc.;
- the astringent properties of oatmeal help to speed up the healing of damaged stomach tissue;
- Absolutely all cereals are perfect for consumption at any time of the day and in combination with any other products.
Porridges for gastritis with high acidity are selected especially carefully, since this disease is not an easy one. All porridges must be cooked longer than usual, so that the cereal is well boiled. For cooking, it is allowed to use water or milk, 50% diluted with water.
- Buckwheat has a lot of healing properties:
- alleviates the effects of stress;
- promotes mucosal regeneration;
- increases the amount of hemoglobin in the blood;
- prevents dangerous complications (for example, the development of cancerous processes in the stomach).
Buckwheat normalizes intestinal peristalsis. Such porridge will never cause allergies, so it can be consumed without problems during pregnancy and lactation, and in early childhood.
- Oatmeal is one of the most dietary cereals that can be recommended for gastritis with high acidity, as well as for other diseases of the digestive tract.
- Oatmeal has the following properties:
- knits, envelops the mucous membrane, reducing pain;
- eliminates the feeling of hunger for a long time;
- prevents relapses of gastritis caused by stressful situations;
- eliminates problems with defecation;
- helps restore stomach tissue.
- Rice in the form of porridge is rich in B vitamins, tocopherol and vitamin PP, as well as a large number of microelements. Rice groats are the only cereal with significant absorbent properties. Thanks to them, rice can be used in the most serious intoxications as a sorbent.
Rice porridge is useful for inflammation of the intestinal and stomach mucosa; it is allowed to be eaten by children, during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
- Semolina porridge contains a large percentage of carbohydrates and is easily absorbed by the body, so it is often recommended for consumption during the recovery period of patients after prolonged illnesses. You can also cook semolina for gastritis with high acidity - such porridge does not damage the stomach and is well absorbed.
However, it is not recommended to eat semolina porridge in large quantities - it is very high in calories, so its frequent use can lead to the appearance of extra pounds.
- Corn grits can have different degrees of grinding - in case of gastritis with high acidity, it is allowed to use only the most ground grits. Corn porridge for gastritis with high acidity should be consumed in moderation - with a large amount of liquid and after prolonged cooking. Once or twice a week will be quite enough.
Of course, corn is a healthy product. It contains folic and pantothenic acids, B vitamins, tocopherol and retinol, beta-carotene and biotin. It also contains sufficient amounts of fiber, di- and monosaccharides, polyunsaturated fatty acids, and starch. However, corn porridge is a bit heavy for the stomach, and gastritis can cause difficulties with digesting it.
- Pearl barley porridge is made from barley grains, which is why its second name is barley porridge. Many people don’t like it – and in vain: pearl barley perfectly eliminates signs of inflammation and can be used for gastritis with high acidity, as well as for peptic ulcers and pancreatitis. In addition, pearl barley porridge strengthens the immune system, lowers cholesterol levels, fights anemia, improves intestinal peristalsis, and removes toxic substances from the body.
However, you shouldn’t overuse pearl barley either: for gastritis with high acidity, it’s best to consume it no more than 3 times a week, in not too large portions.
- Lentils have become increasingly popular in the last decade, and this is not surprising - after all, they are very healthy and, moreover, affordable. Lentil porridge "spurs" metabolic processes, improves the function of the urinary system, strengthens the immune system. Scientists have isolated serotonin in lentils - this explains the property of this product to eliminate depression, anxiety, and improve mood. In addition, lentils contain a relatively large amount of potassium and iron - this combination helps improve the functioning of the cardiovascular system and prevent anemia.
If you have gastritis with high acidity, you can eat lentils, but with caution - no more than 1-2 times a week, in not very large portions, so as not to overload the digestive system.
- Millet porridge is an excellent source of energy for an organism exhausted by illness. Millet is rich in slowly digestible carbohydrates, which are gradually released, giving the organism energy. Millet porridge improves bowel function, normalizes metabolic processes, and removes unnecessary substances from the body (for example, such porridge is highly recommended to be included in the diet after long-term antibiotic therapy).
For gastritis with high acidity, millet porridge is prepared in milk and can be consumed once a day - preferably in the morning. Its use is contraindicated in hypothyroidism and iodine deficiency in the body.
- Wheat porridge, as well as corn, is not recommended for consumption during an exacerbation of gastritis, and should be prepared only from finely ground cereals. This porridge is nutritious, hypoallergenic, and accelerates the recovery of the body after an illness. This porridge can be consumed by everyone except small children.

Contraindications
In general, cereals have a very small number of relative contraindications:
- sometimes – the period of pregnancy;
- sometimes – diabetes mellitus and thyroid disease.
It is necessary to be especially careful with porridges during an exacerbation of gastritis - often in the first 2-3 days the doctor may recommend abstaining from food, with the use of herbal tea and rice broth. The possibility of eating one or another type of porridge during this period should be agreed with the attending physician.
Porridges for gastritis with high acidity should be dietary, and at the same time nutritious and tasty. They should not have a consistency that irritates the mucous tissues of the stomach. For this reason, porridges for gastritis are never cooked thick. Any porridge when consumed should be freshly cooked and warm, only in this case it will bring maximum benefit to the body.
Possible risks
The harm of porridge in gastritis with high acidity can manifest itself only in some cases, for example in the following:
- if the grain for the porridge is ground too coarsely (this applies to crushed grains – barley, wheat, corn);
- if the porridge is undercooked (the cereal should be cooked until the grains are completely boiled);
- if the porridge is consumed too hot or too cold;
- if so-called instant porridge is used - a semi-finished product that often contains artificial aromas and flavor additives;
- if porridge is consumed too often and in large quantities.
The best option is to eat porridge for breakfast, and it is advisable to alternate different types of cereals. Today it can be oatmeal, and tomorrow - buckwheat porridge.
The porridge can be cooked in water, or half milk and water. In this version, the dish is better digested.
