The diet for exacerbation of gastritis is not much different from the principles of nutrition for acute gastritis, because in both cases we are dealing with acute inflammation of the mucous tissues of the gastric cavity.

What is the essence of such a diet? What should you eat, and what should you limit yourself to? How to correctly compose a menu so that it is at the same time varied, tasty and healthy during an exacerbation of gastritis?

What is the diet during an exacerbation of gastritis?

It is difficult for the stomach to work with inflamed walls, therefore, during an exacerbation of gastritis, it is necessary to refrain from eating food on the first day. It is recommended to drink only warm liquids in the form of tea, non-carbonated mineral water, rosehip decoction, about 2 liters per day. In the following days, the patient is allowed to eat steamed and boiled mashed foods, without salt and spices. The main principle of such a diet is that food should in no case irritate the mucous tissues of the stomach, and therefore be:

  • pureed (without coarse pieces that are difficult to digest);
  • not cold and not hot (only warm, approximately 35-40°C);
  • without substances that are aggressive to the mucous membrane (salt, pepper, acids, spices, etc.);
  • not fried (but only boiled or steamed);
  • not greasy;
  • without hard-to-digest inclusions (chocolate, nuts, seeds, etc.).

In medicine, the diet for exacerbation of gastritis is designated as diet No. 5a, which is prescribed for gastritis, enteritis, colitis in the acute stage and during relapses.

Food is taken approximately 5 times a day, avoiding overeating and hunger. A strict diet is usually followed for 1-2 weeks.

Reviews of diet for exacerbation of gastritis

As a rule, gastritis exacerbation occurs suddenly, and at first the patient loses his appetite completely. This can be used: the vast majority of specialists recommend going without food for the first, and often the second day of exacerbation, drinking only liquids. By doing so, we allow the inflamed stomach to rest a little and recover.

But, fasting is fasting, and without further changes in nutrition it will not work. The therapeutic diet should be followed for 1-2 weeks, until the stomach function is completely normalized. During this diet, fasting is categorically not recommended, however, as well as overeating. It is necessary to make a convenient meal plan for yourself in order to eat a little, but every 2-3 hours. These can be light snacks, tea with a cracker, cottage cheese, etc.

It is worth reminding that alcoholic drinks, nicotine and other bad habits are in no way compatible with the treatment of gastritis. Moreover, all food should be as fresh as possible, vegetables and fruits - thoroughly washed and peeled.

The diet during exacerbation of gastritis should continue as long as possible: do not rush to return to the previous diet, otherwise the symptoms may quickly return. Long-term adherence to the diet often helps to forget about relapses for a long time and feel great under any circumstances.
