Since atopic dermatitis is a type of allergic reaction of the body to contact with an allergen, one of the ways to alleviate the symptoms is to follow a diet. A special diet for atopic dermatitis in adults is made up taking into account the factors that atopic dermatitis is a manifestation of a true allergy and the reaction to an allergenic product appears only after a latent period. Before deciding on a diet with restrictions that alleviate the course of atopic dermatitis, you should be absolutely sure of the diagnosis and not confuse atopic dermatitis with intolerance to certain foods.

Diet for atopic dermatitis in adults

If the diagnosis is confirmed, the diet for atopic dermatitis in adults should be based on the preparation of a complete diet that allows maintaining working capacity. An adult can independently create a menu, avoiding products containing substances-histamine liberators. Histamine liberators include all ready-to-eat food products - sausages, all types of ham, smoked meat, all types of canned fish, smoked (dried) types of fish, all hard cheeses, pork liver, products prepared by fermentation (wine), pickling and salting.

Diet for atopic dermatitis in children

Just like in adults, a diet for atopic dermatitis in children should exclude all of the above products, and also exclude products that can provoke the development of food allergies against the background of general sensitization of the body. Children are not recommended to eat all types of citrus fruits, nuts, mushrooms, honey, fish (fish products), poultry and its processed products, chocolate, smoked foods, spices and sauces (mustard, mayonnaise), eggs, tomatoes, eggplants, imported fruits. In case of individual intolerance, dairy products are excluded, most often - fresh milk.

The problem of feeding a child with atopic dermatitis is difficult to solve due to the huge number of restrictions. It is still possible to choose dishes consisting of beef (lean, boiled), which will replenish the protein deficiency. In the case of first courses, the broth should always be beef, secondary, the soups themselves - cereal, vegetable (from domestic vegetables). Of the fats, butter and olive oil are recommended. Of the dairy products, you can introduce one-day fermented milk kefir, cottage cheese. Porridges are preferably gluten-free, potatoes - boiled. You can eat ground cucumbers, from greens - parsley and dill (ground, domestic). Baked apples, tea (with sugar) are shown. Drinks (compotes, infusions of their own preparation) from apples, cherries, currants, plums, dried fruits (without the smell of smoking). Bakery products are preferably dry and not rich.

In fact, the child's menu for atopic dermatitis should consist of dishes prepared at home, food products are steamed or boiled. It is strictly not recommended to introduce synthetic vitamins and mineral supplements during an exacerbation of dermatitis. All concentrates and semi-finished products, all types of canned products, all types of imported vegetables and fruits are excluded, all brightly colored vegetables and fruits are excluded, as well as all dark-colored varieties of meat and fish (chicken can only be consumed if it is "domestic"). During an exacerbation, all types of spices and herbs are contraindicated; during remission, it is permissible to use bay leaf, parsley and dill "from the garden".

Mother's Diet for Atopic Dermatitis

If a woman has been diagnosed with atopic dermatitis and is breastfeeding, the mother's diet for atopic dermatitis has a number of features that minimize the risk of exacerbations of the disease, but provide adequate nutrition for the mother. It is strictly forbidden to consume products with dyes, preservatives, carbonated drinks and kvass, products with histamine liberators, seafood (as a result of a violation of storage technology, histidine contained in muscle tissue, under the influence of bacterial histidine decarboxylase, turns into histamine). Limit sweet dishes, bakery products from baked goods and white refined flour, confectionery (mainly due to low-quality fats and synthetic additives included in them). All types of fermented milk products (low-fat), gluten-free cereals and uncolored (green) vegetables, fruits, lean meats boiled, stewed or steamed are recommended.

In general, the mother's diet for atopic dermatitis during pregnancy and breastfeeding is not much different. You should be extremely careful when consuming various ready-made dishes, for example, yogurt should be "live", with a minimum shelf life and without fruit fillers. Tea should be brewed from leaves, since the contents of bags do not always consist of tea leaves and often contain dyes and flavors. When consuming animal fats, you should remember that lard, as a depot (storage) retains all the harmful substances and hormonal additives that the animal encountered during life, butter is also a concentrate of milk fat and it is important that the milk for making butter is produced in ecologically clean areas, when consuming vegetable oils, you should take into account that the cleanest oil is olive oil, soybean oil will almost always contain GMOs.

In case of a specified and confirmed diagnosis - atopic dermatitis, the diet is similar to the diet for other types of allergies. Meals should be fractional, it is advisable not to include several types of products from the "questionable" list in one meal: rabbit and turkey meat, pork, red currants, apricots, peaches, bananas, cranberries, green peppers, corn, peas. If the body has been exposed to any stress (long exposure to the sun, exposure to chemical vapors, long-term contact with detergents), all questionable or conditionally allergenic products should be removed from the diet.

Hypoallergenic diet for atopic dermatitis

A hypoallergenic diet for atopic dermatitis is prescribed only when the diagnosis is beyond doubt. In the case of child patients, food allergies are the first signs of atopic dermatitis. The most allergenic for children are yolk, fish, all legumes, fresh milk, and wheat products in particular. In adults, manifestations of food allergies with dermatitis provocation occur most often in combination with inhalation allergens. Attacks are provoked by all types of nuts, fresh colored vegetables and fruits. Milk intolerance is less common; in eggs, the provocateur is protein. Adults are more likely to suffer from beef and pork in any form; children tolerate steamed beef better.

A diet for patients with atopic dermatitis is most often selected individually, taking into account external triggers (ecology) and the person's sphere of activity. It should be taken into account that no specialist can provide a complete list of products that are prohibited or allowed for consumption. To create a menu, it is necessary to take into account the features of "cross-food allergies". With inhalation provocations of atopic dermatitis by flowering trees, there is a high probability that an allergy will manifest itself on carrots, oranges, celery, nuts, and apples. If an allergy to a banana manifests itself, melon will also be an allergen, but fish, legumes, and eggs can cause a state of anaphylactic shock. To adjust the diet, it is necessary to undergo regular examination of the gastrointestinal tract, since many products can be pseudo-allergenic due to functional disorders of the intestinal mucosa.
