Why is diet so important for atherosclerosis? Because this disease is directly related to food.
A person experiences lipid metabolism failures and fatty layers (that same cholesterol) are gradually deposited on the vessel walls. This causes the vessels to narrow and the blood supply to deteriorate. Metabolic processes are disrupted and it is clear that patients with atherosclerosis suffer from obesity more often than others. There is also good news – the disease can be defeated. And this is where a diet for atherosclerosis in combination with physical exercise comes first.
Treatment of atherosclerosis with diet
Treatment of atherosclerosis with diet requires a careful and conscious approach to food products. For example, refined products are not suitable for patients with atherosclerosis. Therefore, pasta, semolina, premium flour and refined white rice are unlikely to be suitable for the treatment of atherosclerosis with diet. It is necessary to cleanse the vessels with bran - both wheat and oat. Use unrefined cereals for cooking, offer only coarse bread to the table. Fruits and vegetables help cleanse the vessels during the treatment of atherosclerosis with diet. This means that it is necessary to include at least 200 grams of fruit and 300 grams of vegetables in the daily diet (we exclude potatoes). If you take a plate of a patient with atherosclerosis, it should look like this - half of the vegetables (or fruit salad), of the remaining half 2/3 porridge, or another product rich in carbohydrates. And only the remaining third - protein products. It is important to remember about variety in the menu when treating atherosclerosis with a diet. If you eat fruits and vegetables with different phytochemicals, the anti-sclerotic effect will be stronger. It's easy if you include color - eat something yellow (orange or tangerine), red (tomato or apple), burgundy (beetroot), green (lettuce, greens, cucumbers, rhubarb), white (cruciferous) per day. Garlic, for example, has bright anti-sclerotic properties. If you eat just a clove of garlic every day, then the cleaning of the vessels will be good. The effect occurs if you do this for at least six months in a row. Of course, a fresh clove of garlic is preferable, and not a dried analogue in spices. There is such a seasoning - fengurek, it is also called fenugreek. Fengurek seeds, finely ground in a coffee grinder or a grater and added to food reduce cholesterol levels. The widely known flax seed has the same effect. It is also ground and regularly consumed in food. For these purposes, it is also ground and regularly added to food. When treating atherosclerosis with a diet, moderation in food is also important. The usefulness of food can simply be destroyed by a huge amount consumed at one time. A sedentary lifestyle is also not suitable for a patient with atherosclerosis.
Diet for atherosclerosis of blood vessels
So what should be the diet for vascular atherosclerosis? This article examines all aspects in detail - what to exclude from food forever, what will have to be parted with temporarily. And what, on the contrary, is important to introduce into the menu as soon as possible. A person resorts to a diet for vascular atherosclerosis as a rule after the occurrence of quite serious problems - when the lumen of the artery is smaller by two thirds. To prevent atherosclerosis, it is very important to eat right, and preferably from childhood. Cholesterol, which is deposited on the walls of our blood vessels, is contained in products of animal origin.
The diet for atherosclerosis excludes foods rich in cholesterol from the diet, so that its level in the blood does not increase abruptly, and so that cholesterol deposits do not begin to form on the inner walls of the arteries. In order to cleanse the vessels from excess cholesterol, a diet for vascular atherosclerosis is needed, a vegan one. It provides for the absence of animal products at all. Then the body produces only its own cholesterol. And if you add moderate physical activity, the body dissolves atherosclerotic stripes in the vessels and plaques. It is very difficult to be a vegetarian in the countries of the former USSR. There are few products that replace meat, very few seasonal vegetables, and if they are there, they are imported and quite expensive. Therefore, the use of animal products with low cholesterol levels is often allowed. Nutritionists have proven in numerous studies that it is not the fact of having cholesterol foods in the diet that is dangerous, but the lack of sufficient fiber in the form of vegetables and fruits.

What is the diet for vascular atherosclerosis?
A diet for vascular atherosclerosis involves reducing the daily amount of calories by approximately 10-15%, compared to the average daily norm. In the case of atherosclerosis development against the background of obesity, the number of calories per day consumed with food should not exceed 1500 - 2000 kcal. It is recommended to have fasting days 1-2 times a week - eat only apples, kefir or low-fat cottage cheese. The energy value of food can be reduced by carbohydrates and animal fats - the latter are generally abandoned in case of vascular atherosclerosis. Cholesterol-containing products are practically excluded from the diet - brains, liver, egg yolks, caviar, kidneys.
When on a diet for atherosclerosis, patients should eat only unrefined oils, as they are rich in polyunsaturated fatty acids, vitamin E, and phospholipids. Up to 80 g of fat should be consumed per day when on a diet for atherosclerosis. A patient with atherosclerosis should give up sweets - greatly limit the consumption of sugar, honey, and jam - these products are converted into cholesterol and triglycerides in the body. Carbohydrates in the daily menu of a patient with atherosclerosis reach 300-400 g per day. And salt is consumed no more than 8 g per day when on a diet for atherosclerosis. The amount of proteins in a diet for atherosclerosis can be calculated - approximately 1.4 per kilogram of the patient's body weight, most of which are proteins of animal origin. The diet is enriched by additional intake of ascorbic acid, pyridoxine, niacin, and rutin by a patient with atherosclerosis. Ascorbic acid and rutin strengthen the walls of blood vessels, help reduce the penetration of cholesterol, vitamin C accelerates the breakdown of cholesterol in the patient's liver and its removal from the body. The required amount of vitamins in the diet for atherosclerosis can be balanced by food - vegetables and berries, juices and fruit drinks, greens. It is useful to include seaweed, squid, crabs, mussels in the diet - such microelements as iodine and manganese are in sufficient quantities in them. When on a diet for atherosclerosis, the patient should drink sodium bicarbonate, bicarbonate-sulphate mineral waters.
You need to drink such mineral water at least three times a day. At the rate of 3.3 ml per 1 kg of human weight. It turns out up to 900 ml. of mineral water per day, the water is drunk thirty minutes before meals. The course of treatment with water lasts about six weeks.

Diet recipes for vascular atherosclerosis.
We will divide our recipes into two parts – folk remedies that will help reduce blood cholesterol levels and recipes that atherosclerosis patients can use in their menu.
Cleaning blood vessels using “grandmother’s methods”, in other words, traditional medicine.
- Garlic is a secret weapon against cholesterol. Our grandmothers did it this way - about 50 grams of crushed fresh garlic was poured with 200 ml of vodka, infused in a dark place for a week (the mixture should be shaken once a day). Ten drops are taken three times a day in one teaspoon with water, regardless of food intake. The course lasts two weeks, repeated after two months. The course is repeated after 2 months;
- A mixture of hawthorn berries, wild strawberries and raspberry leaves - keep 2 tablespoons of the mixture in a water bath in 500 ml of water. Strain the resulting broth - take 100 ml of broth half an hour before meals. The course is three months;
- Make a mixture of equal parts of fennel fruits, chestnut flowers, lemon balm, trefoil, and adonis. Infuse one tablespoon of this mixture in a thermos, pouring a glass of boiling water. Drink a third of a glass of the resulting infusion half an hour after meals for a month, and repeat the course after a week's break.
Diet recipes for atherosclerosis of blood vessels from meat:
- Domloma. Ingredients: 400g meat, vegetable oil, 200g grape leaves, 1 onion; rice – 50g; tomato – 200g, 2 eggs, sour cream, flour, greens.
- Finely chop the meat. Fry the onion in vegetable oil until soft, pour in rice, peel the tomatoes, chop finely and add to the meat, add hot water. After the rice has absorbed the water, add the minced meat to the mixture, finely chop the greens and add there. Prepare the grape leaves - put the filling in each and wrap it like an envelope. Put the resulting grape cabbage rolls in a saucepan (packing tightly), pour hot water and simmer over low heat (you can use a heat diffuser). While the cabbage rolls are cooking, make a sauce from sour cream, beaten egg and flour, diluting it a little with the broth from the cabbage rolls. When the water boils away, pour the prepared sauce over the cabbage rolls.
- Meat with prunes. Ingredients: 700 g meat, onion - 2 pcs.; spoon of butter, flour and prunes. Cut the meat into strips as for beef stroganoff, fry the onion in butter, then lightly fry the meat in the same place, sprinkle with flour, stir, pour water over the meat so that it is slightly covered with it and cook until done over low heat. Add pitted prunes to the meat, soaked in advance 30 minutes before serving.
- Sweet and sour meat. We will need: 700 g of meat, half a liter of broth, 8 potatoes, 2 onions, vegetable oil, sugar, vinegar, tomato paste. Cut the meat finely, fry in a spoon of vegetable oil over high heat, then pour in the broth and simmer. Boil the potatoes and cut each potato into several pieces. Fry the onion, pre-cut in a small amount of vegetable oil, add a little sugar, vinegar, tomato paste, stir and remove from heat. Add the sauce to the meat, which should be stewed for about 45 minutes, put the potatoes on top and bake in the oven.
Diet recipes for atherosclerosis of blood vessels from fish:
- Fish meatballs. We need about 400 g of minced fish (it is better to make it at home); onion, rice - 2 tablespoons; egg, flour - two tablespoons; some sour cream and a bunch of greens. Buy 15% fat sour cream from the store. Boil the rice, then rinse with cold water in a colander. Finely chop the onion. Add the boiled rice and chopped onion to the minced fish, break an egg into it and mix well. Wet your hands and form small balls, sprinkle them with flour (or roll them in a saucer - whichever is more convenient), fry in a spoon of lard or vegetable oil. Fry quickly over high heat, literally a minute. Then pour in a mixture of sour cream and water and simmer for 20 minutes. Sprinkle with finely chopped greens before serving.
- Baked fish with mashed potatoes. Ingredients - 120 grams of lean fish fillet, 40 grams of dry white bread; half an egg; one small potato; 1 tbsp. milk; dill and a gram of salt. Make mashed potatoes. Pass the fillet through a meat grinder, soak the bread and also grind it. Mix the puree and minced fish, add half an egg beaten with a teaspoon of milk, stir, form a casserole and put in the oven to bake, having previously greased the form. Before serving, sprinkle the finished dish with herbs.
So, everyone understands perfectly well that a diet for atherosclerosis significantly improves the patient's well-being, speeds up the treatment process, and is also a preventive measure - people prone to arteriosclerosis can periodically go on such a diet.

What can you eat if you have atherosclerosis of blood vessels?
Here is an approximate list of products recommended by nutritionists for patients with atherosclerosis. This is poultry fillet, peeled from skin and fat, tender veal, rabbit, and perhaps even game. It is recommended to eat sea fish more often. Unlike other diets, the diet for atherosclerosis requires fatty fish in the diet, which contains polyunsaturated fatty acids, which have such a beneficial effect on blood vessels. In addition, all fermented milk products are allowed for consumption (kefir, cottage cheese, sour milk, fermented baked milk, yogurt). However, it is recommended to drink only skim milk. You can eat up to two eggs per week. You should strictly limit the consumption of yolks. Fruits and vegetables are allowed with a few exceptions - grapes and dates are not allowed. Cereals - any. A small amount of pasta is allowed. Bread from wholemeal flour - a small amount, a couple of thin slices a day. It is allowed to season food with various dried herbs and spices to taste. Tea and only weak ones.
What should you not eat if you have atherosclerosis of the blood vessels?
Let's agree right away - no animal or hydrogenated fats. The former contain cholesterol, and the latter contribute to its deposition on the walls of blood vessels. Therefore, we exclude the following food products during the diet: fatty meat. Specifically those pieces where the fat is visible, where it is between the fibers. Butter very, very little, lard - under no circumstances. It is strictly forbidden to use margarines and so-called spreads.
You can't eat pates (especially the beloved liver one, alas), offal - liver, brains, kidneys are also not advisable. We will exclude from the diet soups on rich, fatty and strong broths. There are two ways to make the broth not fatty. The first is to remove the fat in the already cooled broth with a spoon. And the second is to bring the broth to a boil. Pour it out. Pour water over the meat and cook the soup on the second broth. You need to exclude sausages and hot dogs from the diet. Fatty whole milk, fatty cheese, cream, condensed milk, sour cream (especially homemade, the kind in which a spoon can stand up). You should give up ice cream during the diet. Do not eat fried potatoes and chips. Mayonnaise, store-bought fatty sauces - exclude categorically. Sweet buns contain light sugars, which increase the daily calorie intake and promote fat deposition.
But the following products can be consumed, but with caution and in very small quantities: vegetable and olive oil (we recommend buying a spray for salads), honey - you can have one teaspoon with unsweetened tea as a substitute for sweets. Lean meat - lean beef, lean ham, lean ground beef. You can eat cheese with a fat content of less than thirty percent (let's be honest, it is very difficult to find such cheeses on the shelves. This is mainly Italian ricotta). You can season food with a small amount of soy sauce. Of the alcoholic drinks, only dry red wine is allowed. You will need to part with the rest (especially strong alcoholic drinks) for the duration of the diet.
