Medical rehabilitation is carried out in 2 or 4 stages. Women who have managed to eliminate proteinuria and hypertension within 6 months after childbirth are provided with two-stage rehabilitation, and patients with unresolved pathological symptoms - four-stage.
First step. The task of this stage is elimination of residual phenomena of late toxicosis of pregnant women: improvement of the functional state of the central nervous system, vascular tone and arterial pressure, normalization of water-electrolyte and protein balance, elimination of hypovolemia. In this case, the patient is in hospital with the duration of treatment up to 3 weeks.
The women who have undergone late toxemia of pregnant women carry out a daily measurement of blood pressure and diuresis, weekly clinical tests of urine and blood, Zimnitsky, Nechiporenko, Reberg samples, determination of urea and total blood protein.
Second phase. Gynecologists who underwent a late toxicosis 1-2 times a month in polyclinic conditions conduct blood pressure measurement and clinical analysis of urine, once a month - examination by the therapist with the goal of normalizing the functional state of the central nervous system, vascular tone and blood pressure. This lasts up to 1 year after childbirth.
Treatment in the second stage of rehabilitation consists in the appointment of sedatives and on indications - hypotensive drugs.
The third stage. The task of this stage is the diagnosis of diseases that developed as a result of a delayed toxicosis of pregnant women and, respectively, differentiated treatment of the identified disease - hypertension, kidney disease (glomerulonephritis, pyelonephritis). Treatment is carried out in the nephrologic department up to 3 weeks. Women, who have preserved proteinuria and elevated blood pressure during 6 months after childbirth, conduct an examination - radiological, radioisotope and other special methods of investigation.
The fourth stage. Once a month, a survey is performed in accordance with the specific features of the detected disease, with the continuation of treatment of the latter in women who had proteinuria and elevated blood pressure during 6 months after delivery. Venue - polyclinic, duration of treatment and follow-up - up to 1 year after childbirth.
At the fourth stage of rehabilitation continue the treatment prescribed in the third or the second stage, depending on the diagnosis of the disease established by this time.
