The first days of a child at school are exciting not only for him, but also for his parents. A preschooler, and now a schoolchild, experiences a major change in his psyche and physical condition, because his daily routine and the children's group change dramatically. What is the right thing for parents of a schoolchild to do?
Useful tips for parents of a schoolchild
Tip #1
It is worth choosing a school for your child, not for yourself. That is, first of all, consider not its status, but the practical skills that the school can give the child. These skills can be those that the child has an inclination for. For example, if the child loves sports, choose a school with a sports focus. If he loves languages, there is no need to focus on physics, even if the child's parents are nuclear physicists.
Tip #2
To be aware of your child's affairs, you need to rewrite the schedule of lessons and calls, write down the contact numbers of teachers, and find out in detail about the learning conditions. This way, you can be "on the same page" with your child, understand in what conditions he studies and how.
Tip #3
Pay attention to your child's workload and what time their lessons last until. This way, you can help them calculate their workload and homework, and you will also be aware of whether the child came home from school on time, was late, or for some reason showed up home too early.
Tip #4
Determine the start and end time of classes to calculate what time the child should get up. How much time can he spend on lessons, how much on breakfast and dinner, and how much on active games. Keep in mind that every day the child should actively rest for at least three hours and spend at least an hour in the fresh air in the evening.
Tip #5
Be sure to exchange phone numbers with your child's class teacher and tell her about your son's or daughter's health, inclinations, and temperament. Agree to keep in touch with her constantly so that she can call you in any case if something is wrong with the child.
Tip #6
Pay attention to whether the study area at home is comfortable for your child. The table and chair should correspond to the child's weight and height. The table should not be round, and take care of the lighting. Teach your child to properly care for his work area - it should be thoroughly cleaned.
Tip #7
Set your child up so that you will always support him. Both of you don’t need extra perfectionism. Don’t demand super success from your child, but at the same time, teach him to be organized. This way, your child won’t have a nervous breakdown, which inevitably happens to children with increased emotional and physical stress.
Tip #8
Set your child up and take into account that adaptation to school will not happen in a day or two. This process requires from three months to six months. Therefore, your support in difficult moments is a must for your child.
Tip #9
If your child does not study as you would like, do not intimidate him or punish him, but simply help. All children have different abilities and speed of thinking, different inclinations. Therefore, do not be disappointed if your child is not an excellent student. The main thing is his good health and stable emotional state. Gradually, everything will work out.
The first days of school can be challenging for both your child and you. But the principles of understanding, organization, and gradualism will still bear fruit.
