What do pediatricians say as to whether dried fruits can be breastfed? After all, everyone knows that nursing mothers have to control their menu, and that a number of foods during lactation are not recommended, as some of their components, getting into breast milk, can cause discomfort in the baby's intestines.
We will not expand on the vitamins, macro- and microelements contained in dried fruits and their useful properties: the task is to find out why, for all indisputable benefit to the mother's organism (especially for the prevention of anemia), some of the dried fruits are not recommended during lactation.
Is it possible to eat raisins for a nursing mother?
Pediatricians do not recommend the use of raisins during breastfeeding in the first month of the baby's life, that is, in the neonatal period, and up to three months of age babies. In the suit there are many easily assimilated carbohydrates, in particular glucose, and for about two and a half months children lack enzymes for their aerobic metabolism. And when my mother eats 50 grams of raisins (two tablespoons), it is almost 138% of the daily glucose rate ...
Despite the fact that the same amount of dried grapes, that is, raisins, provides no more than 8% of daily fiber intake, this is sufficient for a marked increase in the formation of gases in the intestine and enhance its peristalsis.
There is no absolute prohibition on crackers with raisins during breastfeeding, but is it worth the risk? It should also be taken into account that the cottage cheese mass with raisins during breastfeeding can lead to flatulence in both the mother and the infant feeding on her milk.
Doctors advise to limit the use of raisins during lactation also because of the high content of boron in it: more than 1000% of the daily norm of 50 g. While boron is necessary for the assimilation of calcium and the formation of bone tissue, its overabundance can adversely affect not only digestion, diarrhea, but also interfere with the absorption of vitamin C and proteinogenic amino acids such as methionine and cysteine.
Can I eat dried apricots for breastfeeding mother?
Like dried grapes, dried apricots during breastfeeding in the first month after the birth of a child in the diet of a nursing woman should not be present: this wonderful and useful product can be tried when the baby is 2.5-3 months old - with mandatory monitoring of the condition of the baby (the nature of the bowel movement, presence of colic, skin rashes).
In order not to create additional problems with the work of the physiologically immature gastrointestinal tract of the infant, the same principles are best guided and consuming compote from dried apricots during breastfeeding.
But the pie with dried apricots when breastfeeding and bake, and there is absolutely not necessary: in addition to the dried apricots, bloating in the stomach and flatulence causes any baking, especially from yeast dough.
Also, experts remind that many manufacturers of dried apricots prevent the loss of color of apricots and extend the shelf life of the product by treating dried fruits with sulfur-containing gas - sulfur dioxide. Some sulfites provoke gastric colic, skin reactions in the form of rash and asthmatic symptoms. And dried fruits that were not properly stored can also be contaminated with mold fungi and poisonous aflatoxins.
Is it possible to eat prunes to a nursing mother?
The natural laxative effect of prunes is due to the presence of vegetable fiber and the content of sorbitol. In addition, in the process of production of dried plums, fruits (to give them shine) are treated with glycerin, which also acts on the intestines as a laxative.
For this reason - in order to avoid diarrhea in a child - prunes during breastfeeding from constipation in the mother is not a means of choice. It is much more suitable for constipations in nursing to use glycerin rectal suppositories (suppositories) - absolutely not affecting infants.
In this case prunes during breastfeeding in the first month practically guarantee the development of colic in newborns.
To the same results can lead and compote of prunes with breastfeeding, and, especially, yoghurt with prunes during breastfeeding
In addition, lactating women should take into account that:
- eating only 50 g of prunes a day, the body receives 127.5% of the daily glucose, which increases the risk of gaining excess weight;
- even one prunes berry contributes to an increase in appetite with simultaneous stimulation of the production of gastric juice and bile acids;
- prunes increase diuresis (acts as a diuretic).
Dried fruits and nuts with breastfeeding
As you can see, the recommendations to use dried fruits and nuts in breastfeeding should be treated critically, since the biochemical component of these products and the digestive characteristics of infants are not always taken into account.
So, it is believed that walnuts increase the fat content of breast milk, and it is useful for infants. However, the gastric enzymes of young children cope with the cleavage of only physiologically necessary amounts of fats, and with their excess they enter the intestine and go out, giving the feces an oily appearance (this is called steatorrhea).
A total of 50 g of walnut kernels contains more than 412% of the adult daily norm of omega-3 unsaturated fatty acids, about 186% of the daily requirement for omega-6 acids, and 75% of the daily norm of sterols. So, the day of the nursing mother should not eat more than two walnuts.
Peanuts, which refers to beans, but called groundnut, should be used prudently and only when your little one grows a little - months to six or seven. Then a few roasted nuts per day will contribute to the production of more breast milk, and the intestines of the baby will not so violently react to this product. But you need to consider that quite often peanuts provoke an allergy.
