Various face masks prepared at home are very effective. Before the advent of ready-made products, which now fill the shelves of cosmetics stores, they were the only option for women in their fight for beautiful, well-groomed skin. And - what should be especially emphasized - homemade cosmetic masks are absolutely natural.
And the simple-to-make face mask with egg whites was such a popular home cosmetic procedure that girls, women and elderly ladies would smear their faces with egg whites whipped into foam, regardless of their skin type.
But you and I know very well that facial skin can be dry, normal, oily or combination, and the choice of mask depends on the skin type. So, a protein face mask is an ideal option for those who have oily or combination skin, which especially needs masks that refresh and “tighten” enlarged pores.

Benefits of protein for facial skin
Chicken egg whites are the best choice for this purpose. Egg whites contain many different substances. The undisputed benefits of egg whites for facial skin are in the vitamins they contain (B2, B5, B12, PP). In addition, raw egg whites are rich in amino acids (glutamic and aspartic acids, leucine, serine, lysine, isoleucine, threonine) and such vital microelements as magnesium, potassium, calcium, zinc, copper, phosphorus, molybdenum, iodine, vanadium, chromium, but most of all sulfur, sodium and cobalt.
Take magnesium, for example. When there is a deficiency of it in the epidermal cells, protein synthesis in the connective tissue slows down significantly, and the facial skin responds to this by reducing elasticity (turgor) and the appearance of wrinkles. Copper and zinc help regulate the production of melanin (skin pigment) in the skin, and an imbalance of these microelements leads to the formation of pigment spots (hyperpigmentation).
However, it should be borne in mind that the protein of a fresh egg has an alkaline environment with an acidity level (pH) of 7.6-7.9 (with a neutral pH of 7), and during storage it can increase to 9.7. The surface layer of our skin normally has an acidic environment with a pH of 5.5-5.7. Oily skin has a pH of 4-5.2. Therefore, a face mask with protein neutralizes excess sebum (removes oily shine), dries the skin and narrows the pores. And the benefits of protein for facial skin will only be with this type of skin.
Recipes for making face masks from protein
First of all, we would like to remind you that it is very important to apply any cosmetic mask only to clean skin – so that the beneficial substances really bring benefits. The applied face mask with protein (regardless of the other components included in its composition) is kept for 15-20 minutes and washed off the skin with water at room temperature. And the frequency of using such masks is no more than 2-3 times a week.
Recipes for making face masks with protein are numerous and varied. And the effect of their cleansing, nourishing, moisturizing or whitening effect on the skin directly depends on what is included in their composition.
The most simple face mask with protein reduces skin oiliness. To prepare it, cooled raw protein must be whipped into a foam, add about a teaspoon of fresh lemon juice and mix. It is recommended to apply the mixture to the face in two stages: after applying the first time, wait until the protein dries, and then apply a second layer. What to do next - you read a few lines above.
A whitening mask made from egg whites is just as easy to make: add a 3% solution of hydrogen peroxide (10-15 drops) and 3-4 drops of any essential oil recommended for oily skin to the protein foam - bergamot, cypress, geranium, sage, lavender, lemon, rosemary, cajeput, ylang-ylang oils.
There are other recipes for making a mask with a whitening effect based on egg whites: for one egg white, take 50 g of finely chopped parsley or the same amount of grated fresh cucumber, or cucumber juice, or grated sour apple, or cranberries... You can mix the whipped egg white with a couple of tablespoons of melon, crushed to a puree state. To lighten oily skin and get rid of oily shine, it is good to add two tablespoons of low-fat kefir or yogurt to the mask with the egg white.
An egg white face mask can cleanse oily skin well. To prepare a cleansing mask, beat one egg white, mix it with a tablespoon of wheat flour or oatmeal until it becomes a fairly thick paste, and apply to the skin. The mask will be more effective if you replace the flour with the same amount of cosmetic clay - white or blue.
A face mask made of protein and honey (nourishing and toning the skin) is also suitable for those with combination skin (i.e. oily only in places). It is prepared as follows: mix two teaspoons of liquid honey with two teaspoons of wheat flour and one beaten egg white. After a 20-minute cosmetic procedure, wash off the mixture first with warm water, and then rinse your face with cold water. But it is not recommended to make a face mask of protein and honey often, especially for those with dilated blood vessels.
