A banana face mask perfectly nourishes, moisturizes and tones the skin, and it is easy and simple to make – without spending extra time and money. You won’t even need a blender, since you can turn a piece of peeled banana into a homogeneous mass like puree with an ordinary cutlery like a fork…

First of all, we would like to remind you that, firstly, a banana is not a tree, but a grass (and the tallest in the world). Secondly, a banana is not a fruit, but a leathery berry, the age of which - according to rough estimates - is no less than four thousand years.

This native of Southeast Asia is currently grown in 107 countries around the world, but most of all in India. And the most popular commercial banana variety on the world market is the Cavendish variety.

Benefits of banana for facial skin

Bananas contain almost all the B vitamins, antioxidant vitamins A, C and E, vitamins K and PP, as well as macro- and microelements: iron, potassium, calcium, sodium, magnesium, manganese, phosphorus, copper, zinc, selenium and even fluorine.

Vitamin A helps maintain the necessary level of skin moisture, vitamin C stimulates the formation of the fibrillar protein collagen, without which the skin ages faster. The presence of a sufficient amount of vitamin E, as well as B vitamins, protects the skin from negative external influences, prevents the formation of acne and improves the general condition of the skin. Vitamin K is indispensable in the fight against pigment spots, and PP - against loss of elasticity and flaking of the skin of the face.

In addition, bananas contain biologically active substances - flavonoids. These are plant pigments that give the banana its yellow color, which are found in the cell juice in a dissolved form and are the plant's protection (from sunburn, bacteria, etc.) with antioxidant and antibacterial functions.

So the combination of vitamins with a set of chemical elements, reinforced by the antioxidant action of flavonoids makes the benefits of banana for facial skin an indisputable fact, and the banana itself is a universal natural cosmetic product for facial skin care.

Banana Face Mask Recipes

Depending on what we add to the banana pulp, the mask will perform a specific task for a certain skin type. Keep in mind that you need to prepare the mask immediately before the procedure - so that the banana does not oxidize and does not lose its "usefulness". And here's a tip for the thrifty: if you are not going to eat the part of the banana that is not used for cosmetic purposes, then do not peel it entirely. Wrap the rest tightly in the peel and wrap it in a paper napkin, but do not put it in the refrigerator: a couple of days "banana stash" can last like this (if no one finds it and eats it).

Oh, and one more thing! You understand that we are using carefully chopped banana pulp, so in each recipe we omit phrases like: “Mash the banana with a fork until smooth” – to save our space and your time…

So, the list of recipes for making masks starts with a universal banana face mask, for the preparation of which you will need a third of a banana (medium size) and a tablespoon of not very fatty cream. Cover your face with the resulting mixture, leave it for about 20 minutes and wash it off with warm water. You can do this mask every day - the skin will be well moisturized and smoothed.

Banana and Honey Face Mask

This mask differs from the first recipe only by adding one teaspoon of natural honey to the mixture (if you are not allergic to it). And you should keep it on your face for no more than 15 minutes. You can remove it with a damp cloth, and then rinse your face with mineral water. This mask nourishes, softens and smoothes any skin type.

Banana and Cucumber Face Mask

This mask is also intended for all skin types, as it simultaneously cleanses, nourishes and moisturizes. For half a banana, take half a grated cucumber and add one tablespoon of lemon juice and a teaspoon of honey to the well-mixed homogeneous mass. The mask should be kept for at least 20-25 minutes, then washed off with warm water.

Recipes for making masks for dry skin

Banana and Sour Cream Face Mask

This mask is for skin nourishment and fighting fine wrinkles. For half a banana, take a tablespoon of sour cream and one raw egg yolk. Keep the mixture on your face for 15-20 minutes and wash off with warm water. You can do this mask up to three times a week, especially in the cold season.

Banana Face Mask with Olive Oil

Due to its four components, this mask will become a real "lunch" for dry skin, but it can also be used for normal skin prone to peeling. For half a banana, take one yolk, a tablespoon of wheat flour (without a slide) and a teaspoon of olive oil. The procedure time is no more than 15 minutes, the mask is removed with warm water or chamomile decoction.

Banana and Milk Face Mask

With this wonderful mask, you can not only cleanse dry skin, but also moisturize it. First, brew 2-3 tablespoons of pre-ground oatmeal (for example, in a coffee grinder) with hot milk. When this ingredient cools down a little, mix it with a puree made from half a banana and apply to your face for 15-20 minutes. Remove the mask with a sponge soaked in milk.

Recipes for making masks for normal and oily skin

Banana and Kefir Face Mask

For normal skin, this nourishing and moisturizing banana mask is made with the addition of kefir: for half a banana - 2 tablespoons of kefir (or sour milk). The mixture is applied to the face for a quarter of an hour, and then washed off with warm water.

Banana and Lemon Juice Face Mask

Best suited for oily skin with enlarged pores. Simply add a teaspoon of fresh lemon juice and the same amount of liquid honey to the banana puree. Keep the mixture on your face for about 20 minutes and wash it off with a warm decoction of sage, calendula, St. John's wort or wormwood.

Banana and Egg White Face Mask

This homemade cosmetic mask has a lifting effect, perfectly tightens enlarged pores of oily skin and lightens pigment spots. To prepare it, you will need: a tablespoon of banana puree, whipped white of one egg, a teaspoon of fresh lemon juice. The procedure lasts 15 minutes, during the week you can do no more than three such masks.

Recipes for making masks for problematic and mature skin

Banana and Cottage Cheese Face Mask

To prepare this "rejuvenating" mask for skin over 45, you just need to mix equal parts of mashed (or well-mashed) fresh cottage cheese and banana pulp. But before applying the mixture to your face, it is recommended to take a steam bath with a decoction of medicinal herbs (chamomile, mint, coltsfoot, sage). The mask is kept on the skin for about 20 minutes and washed off with the same (already cooled) herbal decoction.

Banana and Yeast Face Mask

A mixture of banana pulp with regular yeast is useful for problem skin with acne. A piece of yeast is ground with boiled water or warm milk until it reaches the consistency of sour cream and combined with the banana mass in equal parts. The mask should be kept on the face for 15-20 minutes and this simple cosmetic procedure should be done three times a week.

P.S. By the way, in a home "beauty salon" they use not only banana pulp, but also its peel. For example, you can make a remedy for freckles and pigment spots: boil the peel of two bananas for 5 minutes in 0.5 liters of water, cool, filter, pour into a glass container and keep in the refrigerator. Every day you need to wipe problem areas with this decoction for a month.
