The face is a person's business card, so all women try to do everything to make it look healthy and beautiful. Nitrogen facial cleansing is a popular procedure. But you shouldn't do it at home. Remember that only a real specialist can cleanse your facial skin so that the procedure doesn't negatively affect your health.
Nitrogen facial cleansing or cryotherapy is a unique cosmetic procedure that has no analogues in terms of the level of effect achieved. It is carried out using liquid nitrogen. Cryotherapy is completely painless and safe. Despite the fact that the time of nitrogen exposure to the skin is quite short, you can see the result after the first procedure. This is explained by the fact that the cold immediately affects the skin, causing the vessels in its upper layers to narrow and then expand sharply. Due to this, blood circulation and metabolic processes improve, oxygen enters the cells better, which activates the removal of toxins from them.
Due to the rapid renewal of skin cells, a peeling effect appears: the upper layer of the epidermis peels off. But, in comparison with, for example, chemical peeling, this procedure is considered more gentle and soft. Depending on the duration of contact of nitrogen with the skin, cryotherapy has a different degree of action. If there are scars, acne or other defects on the skin, the effect cannot last more than 30 seconds. Thanks to liquid nitrogen, pathological cells will die, and healthy skin will regenerate faster. For a general increase in tone, the effect of nitrogen should be minimal.
Indications
Indications for the use of nitrogen facial cleansing are the following skin problems:
- Significant signs of aging (the skin has lost its former elasticity, has become flabby and saggy, the first wrinkles have appeared).
- There are warts or papillomas on your face that you want to get rid of.
- The face became swollen (in particular, after plastic surgery).
- Enlarged pores, increased sebum secretion.
- Acne or pimples.
- The complexion is too sickly (gray or sallow).
- Presence of scars or marks.
- Rosacea.
- Blood circulation in the skin of the face is too poor.
- Pigmentation.
- Demodicosis.
Advantages and Disadvantages of Nitrogen Facial Cleansing
Any cosmetic procedure has its pros and cons, and nitrogen facial cleansing is no exception. The main advantages of this method include:
- Liquid nitrogen helps to heal damaged skin cells. It has an excellent anti-inflammatory effect, so this procedure is often used after manual facial cleansing. Due to its therapeutic properties, liquid nitrogen is able to resolve any problematic rashes on the face.
- This procedure is considered a kind of special massage for the skin, which has a beneficial effect on its condition.
- Cryotherapy is completely safe and harmless. It can be performed during breastfeeding.
- It helps to get rid of many skin problems.
The disadvantages of the procedure are:
- Sometimes during such cleaning, the patient may feel unpleasant tingling or burning. Although they are not very strong, some cannot bear them.
- Due to the anti-inflammatory effect, liquid nitrogen leaves redness on the skin that may not go away for a long time. Therefore, it is recommended to carry out the procedure in the afternoon or evening, so that the skin can rest during sleep.

Technique of implementation
If cryotherapy is used to remove warts, scars, cicatrices or acne, then a special applicator is required, with the help of which all problem areas will be thoroughly treated. After the nitrogen has affected the skin, a fairly rapid inflow and outflow of blood begins. Because of this, a dense crust appears on the problem area. After a few days, it will fall off, and the skin will become pink and tender. Gradually, the pink color will disappear.
If the patient simply wants to improve the skin condition, the applicator that is put on the device is a small wooden stick. A cotton swab is carefully attached to its end. Sometimes an applicator in the form of a tube with a special reservoir for liquid nitrogen is used. There is a tip at the end of the applicator to ensure contact of the nitrogen with the face.
The procedure of facial cleaning with nitrogen to make the skin smooth and soft does not take much time (usually up to 15 seconds). This is quite enough to get rid of acne, papillomas and other small defects. The doctor first dips the applicator into a container with liquid nitrogen, and then runs it over the problem skin.
Contraindications
Like any other cosmetic procedure, nitrogen facial cleansing has its contraindications. It cannot be performed on people with:
- Diseases of arterial vessels and the cardiovascular system.
- Epilepsy.
- Acute infectious diseases.
- Elevated body temperature.
- Couperose.
- Migraine.
- Individual intolerance to the effects of low temperatures on the skin.
In addition, it is worth noting that this procedure is not recommended to be performed in the summer, since the skin that has been exposed to liquid nitrogen becomes more sensitive to sunlight. During the treatment of the skin with this method, it is necessary to use various sunscreens.
Pregnancy is not a direct contraindication to nitrogen facial cleansing. But doctors cannot always predict how a woman's body will react to the procedure, so it is better to wait with it.
Consequences
Facial cleansing with nitrogen allows you to achieve a number of positive effects:
- Eliminate inflammation.
- Tighten the skin.
- Reduce swelling.
- Eliminate pigmentation.
- Improve the activity of the sebaceous glands.
- Get rid of wrinkles.
- Improve nutrition and microcirculation in tissues.
- Normalize metabolic processes.
- Improve the health of your facial skin.
If there are no serious problems with the skin, then eight to ten cryotherapy procedures are performed. In this case, there are four-day breaks between them.
Post-facial care with nitrogen
Usually, no specific care is required after nitrogen facial cleansing. You can use your favorite cosmetics without any problems, but try not to injure your skin with scrubs for some time. Sometimes, to improve skin exfoliation in problem areas, professionals recommend using enzyme peeling, gommage or lactolan peeling. After them, be sure to apply a suitable cream or special serum to your skin.
To avoid overdrying the skin, it is worth choosing the right moisturizer (for example, Active Serum or Pro-Heal iSClinical). To avoid the skin being exposed to strong sunlight after the procedure, it is recommended to use sunscreens.
