Complications of Botox injections are microhematogenesis, local soreness at the site of administration. There may also be a temporary relaxation of the adjacent muscles, due to diffusion of the toxin. The effect on these muscles depends on the technique of administration and the dose of Botox. To minimize this side effect, you need to apply the required minimum dose and volume of the drug. To accurately place the needle in the most active part of the muscle, we apply the introduction under the control of EMG. This allows you to achieve maximum effect at the lowest dose. Accurate administration of small amounts of toxin eliminates or minimizes unwanted weakening of adjacent muscles. If the adjacent muscle weakens, which leads, for example, to ptosis, this effect will be temporary. The use of botox is not accompanied by long-term complications. A muscle biopsy performed to patients after repeated injections did not reveal any permanent atrophy or degeneration. In some patients receiving large doses of botox (300 U or more, for example, about torticollis), antibodies to botulinum toxin can be produced. They do not cause a hypersensitivity reaction or anaphylaxis. However, antibodies block the action of the toxin, making the patient resistant to further treatment with botox.
Applying botulinum toxin for more than 15 years, we consider his injections to correct hyperfunctional facial folds extremely safe and effective. They can be used in isolation or in combination with peeling, laser polishing or injection of injectable fillers. Patients are very pleased.
