A person is what he eats - this well-known expression is not just a play on words, but a real fact. After all, living organisms receive all their "building materials" from the outside, that is, from food. There is food that provokes diseases, but there are also products for disease prevention. Which ones?
Cancer Prevention Products
Malignant tumors are formed due to many reasons, and not all of them are known to medicine. One of the reasons is considered to be improper nutrition, so experts have developed diets from products for cancer prevention.
- Cabbage (Brussels sprouts, Chinese cabbage, broccoli) and the entire cruciferous family
These are the vegetable crops richest in antitumor components. They contain substances that suppress genes that contribute to the development of the disease and block the proliferation of diseased cells.
Brussels sprouts contain a lot of calcium, phosphorus, sodium, and iron.
According to research by scientists, a 100-gram portion of broccoli in the daily diet is enough to reduce the risk of lung and prostate cancer.
- Onion, garlic
Garlic contains selenium, sulfur, onion - vitamins, saponins, antioxidants. Hot vegetables prevent primary disturbance in cells, fraught with pathological changes, and garlic is recognized as one of the best products in the fight against cancer.
Garlic as an anti-cancer agent is used raw, finely chopped or crushed. Before use, it is useful to leave it for a few minutes so that the spicy vegetable "breathes out" a little. The effectiveness of garlic in the fight against tumors is extremely high: 70%.
- Tomatoes
Fresh tomatoes and red peppers contain a powerful anti-cancer pigment, lycopene, which does not lose its effectiveness even in processed form. Therefore, both fresh and in juices, sauces, and pastes, tomatoes bring preventive benefits. Lycopene acts as an antioxidant. Within a month, the tomato diet reduces the likelihood of prostate cancer by 20%.
- Blueberries, raspberries
Ingredients: antioxidants, pigments, vitamins; ellagic acid prevents blood supply to the tumor, which leads to the death of cancer cells. The substances prevent skin cancer, lung cancer, esophagus cancer, bladder cancer, and breast cancer. It is advisable to eat berries daily, but at least three to four times a week.
- Green tea
An inexpensive and effective product for disease prevention. Contains antioxidants; anti-cancer properties are represented by epigallocatechin gallate, which reduces the risk of disease and stops the growth of malignant tumors. Five cups daily protect against breast disease.
- Nut (walnut)
Vegetable fats improve the health of blood vessels and the heart. Anti-cancer effects have been proven in laboratory experiments on mice. Regular consumption of nuts has a detrimental effect on tumors, particularly prostate tumors.
- Soybeans and legumes
Not all soy products are equally useful. Tofu, tempeh, miso, which contain a lot of genistein, are good for cancer prevention. This is a plant estrogen that counteracts carcinogenic forms of the substance.
Soy does not give a chance to tumors: active substances prevent blood supply to the neoplasm, accelerate the death of diseased cells, destroy carcinogens. The presence of soy in the daily menu reduces the chances of cancer by a whole third.
Phytoestrogens in legumes combat breast and lung cancer. Fiber cleanses the intestines and regulates the activity of the digestive organs. The constant presence of legume dishes in the diet reduces the chances of the disease localizing in the intestines by 40%.
- Curry
The Indian spice contains curcumin (an ingredient in turmeric); the yellow spice slows down the proliferation of diseased cells, inhibiting the process of tumor formation. Japanese scientists who discovered this property synthesized curcumin, which is more stable and effective in combating cancer tumors.
- Wine
Red wine's antioxidants protect cells from becoming "infected" with cancer; in moderate doses, the drink reduces the risk of the disease: a glass a day - by 2%. But there is bad news: drinking alcohol of any strength puts the mammary glands at risk.
- Natural chocolate
Contains antioxidants that prevent damage to normal cells and the appearance of defective ones. A treat in which cocoa occupies 65% is considered healthy. A healthy dose is 30-40 g of chocolate per day.
- Natural coffee
Oncologists welcome coffee, unlike doctors of other specialties. A morning cup of the invigorating drink reduces the possibility of tumors by 16%. Three to four servings reduce the risk of developing a pathological process in the intestine by 24%.
There are two opinions regarding chest and lung disease. Some believe that the risks are slightly increased; others claim that it is not the coffee drink itself that is to blame, but the cigarettes and sweets that usually accompany the coffee ceremony.
- Bananas
Tropical fruits are easily digestible sugar, a source of energy. Contains the active component vitamin K, which has a positive effect on kidney function, supports the skeleton and connective tissues, and is involved in the absorption of calcium and vitamin D. Cleanses the intestines, prevents cancer.
Breast Cancer Prevention Products
Statistics show that the most vulnerable female organ to cancer is the mammary gland. Unfortunately, such a diagnosis most often leads to death.
A balanced diet, including foods for disease prevention, can significantly reduce the risk of oncological pathologies.
Products for the prevention of breast cancer:
- Carrot
The queen of vegetables is rich in carotene, a recognized anti-cancer substance. Experts recommend eating carrots three times a week, 200 g each. Such a portion provides a 17 percent reduction in the likelihood of developing cancer.
Pumpkin, squash, and sweet potato are rich in beta-carotene.
- Broccoli
Various types of cabbage contain an organic compound called sulforaphane. The substance has antimicrobial and anticancer properties, so it can destroy existing cancer lesions and prevent the formation of new ones. Broccoli is rich in sulforaphane. The preventive dose of the vegetable is 200 g twice a week.
White cabbage is also very useful. It contains the enzyme tyrosinase, glucosinolates, which are effective in combating the disease of the century. Scientists have empirically proven that a 200-gram portion of salad served four times a week reduces the likelihood of tumor occurrence by 72%.
Cruciferous vegetables are also rich in indoles, which have a unique ability to convert harmful forms of estrogen into safe ones and stop the development of malignant processes in the mammary gland.
- Tomatoes
The red color and useful properties of the juicy vegetable are due to the presence of lycopene. This is one of the best antioxidants, actively freeing organs and tissues from harmful free radicals. Tomatoes retain their effectiveness even in processed form. For preventive purposes, they are taken every other day (fresh, in salads, soups, ketchups).
- Garlic
The piquant taste and healing properties make this spicy vegetable an indispensable ingredient in the cuisine of different nations. Garlic is even used in recipes for rejuvenating the body. Its anti-cancer properties are also undeniable: the microelement selenium stimulates the production of leukocytes and has a detrimental effect on cancer cells. Experts advise eating a clove at least twice a week.
- Walnut
Nuts contain omega-3 fatty acids that regulate heart function. These same compounds are useful against cancer. To prevent breast cancer, women should eat 30 g three times a week.
- Champignons
It is known that estrogen stimulates tumor growth. Champignons contain an "antidote" - fatty acids that stop estrogen production. A 200 g portion of mushrooms included in the weekly menu only twice will provide a preventive dose of estrogens.
- Blueberry
A well-known leader among many useful berries. Stimulates immunity, eliminates free radicals from the body. Wild blueberries are especially useful. The optimal dose is 200 g every other day.
- Peaches
Peaches' "weapon" against cancer is plant pigments - flavonoids. They are able to damage the tumor without destroying normal cells. Plums have similar qualities. A preventive dose will be provided by just two fruits a week.
- Salmon fish
Salmon are the main source of omega-3 fatty acids. This delicacy fish not only has a special taste, but also successfully combats inflammation; it contains substances that reduce the number of defects that occur at the cellular level.
The optimal amount per week is two to three hundred-gram portions. Fish dishes can be replaced with fish oil (2–10 g per day) or vegetarian algae supplements (daily dose 300 mg).
- Kelp and nori
Seaweed contains chlorophyll, vitamin C, carotenoids, which resist free radicals. Experiments on laboratory animals have established the anti-cancer effect of seaweed, especially in breast disease. Indirect confirmation of the positive effect of the products is the fact that in Japan, where seafood is very popular, women face this problem less often.
- Green tea
The drink contains antioxidants and polyphenols, effectively protects against oncopathologies and other diseases. For prevention, you need to drink three cups daily.
- Olive and flaxseed oils
Monounsaturated oils reduce the risk of the disease. It is better to cook with olive oil, and for dishes that do not require hot processing, use flaxseed oil. Other vegetable oils and margarines are less useful, and some are harmful (for example, trans fats). It has been established that taking a tablespoon of flaxseed oil daily reduces the size of breast tumors.
Products for the prevention of constipation
Long-term constipation can signal various diseases of the digestive tract, so if you experience such symptoms, you should consult a doctor.
If constipation is not associated with diseases, then you can get rid of it with the help of properly organized nutrition and products for the prevention of constipation. You should increase the amount of vegetables and fruits - sources of insoluble fiber, which stimulates motility, as well as fermented milk products, vegetable oil, bran, dried fruits, drinking water. A sweet product - honey - also has a mild laxative effect.
Normally, a person needs about 20 g of fiber per day. To prevent constipation, the dose should be increased to 30-35 g.
- Beans, whole grains, fruits, vegetables
These products are rich in fiber, the main component for stimulating peristalsis and regulating the general state of digestive processes. The daily dose of beans (any variety) is half a glass.
Among vegetables, the record holders for fiber content are cauliflower, broccoli, and spinach. Dark green fruits are also rich in magnesium, which increases their benefits for constipation. The daily portion of various types of cabbage is from a third to ¾ cup, spinach - a quarter, raw carrots - one piece.
Vegetable salads, according to the latest recommendations of European nutritionists, are best eaten not at the beginning, but at the end of lunch. Fiber "for dessert" activates peristalsis and moves food masses through the intestines faster.
It is useful to eat fruits with the peel, which contains the most fiber. An apple, banana, pear, orange, up to a glass of any berries will provide a daily dose of fiber, sufficient to prevent constipation.
Unsweetened oatmeal with prunes is an ideal breakfast; dried fruit is also rich in sorbitol, which has a laxative effect. It is recommended to eat 3-4 prunes soaked overnight in water or 5 teaspoons of raisins every morning. The same portion of bran has a similar effect.
- Low-fat kefir or yogurt, cottage cheese or sour milk should be consumed daily.
- An important place in the list of products for the prevention of diseases, including constipation, is drinking water. It should be drunk more than in the normal state of the intestine: up to 3 liters.
- A honey drink (half a teaspoon of honey per half a glass of warm water) should be drunk three times a day for prevention.
- Coffee will speed up digestion and bowel movements. The effect of coffee is especially enhanced when combined with an apple. Although there is an opposite opinion on this matter - that it is better not to drink coffee for constipation, since it promotes dehydration of the body.
Products for diabetes prevention
Scientists have proven a direct link between excess weight and the development of diabetes. The insidiousness of the disease is that diabetes does not hurt and often proceeds asymptomatically for a long time. Excess body weight can aggravate both the course of the disease and the development of complications. Therefore, products for the prevention of diseases in type 2 diabetes play a particularly important role.
Products for diabetes prevention should not sharply increase the level of glucose in the blood (usually this is provoked by carbohydrate foods). Such a diet is useful for absolutely everyone. Rational nutrition not only prevents the development of the disease, but also normalizes the digestive process and slims the figure.
- To begin with, experts advise simply reducing portions by half: this will reduce the overall caloric content of the food eaten.
Next, remove from the menu tasty but harmful dishes with an abundance of fats, easily digestible carbohydrates: fatty meat and dairy products, sausages and other smoked meats, lard and oils, canned goods, seeds, nuts, sweet pastries, honey. For preventive purposes, children are not recommended to be given soda, mayonnaise, chips, crackers, fast food.
- Other foods should be consumed in moderation.
This applies to foods rich in proteins and carbohydrates: lean fish, meat, dairy products, various cereals, legumes, pasta, bread, eggs, alcohol.
- The third group consists of products that have no restrictions.
These are, first of all, seasonal vegetables of all kinds – fresh, stewed, baked; they should be present on the table of everyone who cares about their own health and appearance. White meat, lean fish are very appropriate with vegetables, and for dessert – unsweetened compotes and herbal infusions.
Preventive nutrition also includes five meals a day. The general ratio of nutrients in the diet against diabetes is: proteins and fats - up to 20%, the rest - carbohydrates.
Cold Prevention Products
Honey, lemon and garlic are considered powerful receptacles of vitamins, essential oils, and other natural components that effectively combat flu and colds. Is it possible to combine these products to prevent colds in order to enhance their effect? Lemon-garlic-honey recipes do exist.
- Lemons with peel but without seeds, ground in a meat grinder, and garlic (5 fruits and 5 heads) are mixed with honey; take a teaspoon three times a day after meals. Store the mixture in the refrigerator. A two-month course sufficiently saturates the body with vitamins and other substances that strengthen the immune system. The mixture is also useful in the treatment of acute respiratory infections.
An important place among products for disease prevention is occupied by selenium-containing products: seafood, mushrooms, carrots, beets, oranges (and juices of these fruits), and the grain group. Selenium increases the immune system due to the formation of antiviral cells in the blood.
- Vitamin D plays a special role in preventing colds. Sunlight is needed for its formation, which is lacking during the acute respiratory disease season. Food helps to enrich the body with vitamin: salmon, sardines, mackerel (it is healthier to stew fish), milk, vegetable oils (sunflower, pumpkin, flax).
Chicken broth contains a complex of amino acids that block inflammatory cells and suppress infection, promote coughing and reduce mucus accumulation in the respiratory organs, and have a general strengthening effect. Vegetable soups should be prepared with such broth.
Beef is rich in proteins, iron, zinc, selenium; these are the first helpers in fighting colds. The benefits are enhanced when meat is combined with raw vegetables and spices (garlic, onion).
- Sauerkraut is the most affordable but effective source of vitamin C. Adding onions and vegetable oil to cabbage salad increases the vitamin efficiency of the product.
Cereals contain fiber, selenium and zinc, vitamins. To improve the taste and make the dishes more useful, butter, fresh or dried fruits, honey are added to the dishes. Cereals are especially useful for breakfast.
Bio-yogurts, kefir and sour milk contain probiotics that support the entire gastrointestinal tract in a healthy state; which, in turn, makes the immune system stronger. At the same time, the range of fermented milk products, with regular use, helps to get rid of unnecessary kilograms and makes the figure slimmer.
Products for the prevention of gastritis
High-quality, healthy, wholesome food, taken regularly, without fasting and overeating, in the absence of harmful drinks, certainly has the best effect on the health of the gastrointestinal tract, the general condition and appearance of a person. Therefore, it is rational nutrition that underlies individual prevention of acute inflammation of the stomach. Moreover, preventive measures are much cheaper and easier than treatment and constant diets in case of illness.
Before talking about products for the prevention of gastritis, it is worth dwelling on products that provoke diseases of the digestive organs. These include the following foods:
- fast food;
- fried and smoked;
- too salty and spicy;
- semi-raw meat and fish;
- "dry meal";
- chips, croutons, snickers;
- medicines;
- alcoholic and carbonated drinks;
- tobacco products.
From the products for the prevention of gastritis diseases it is necessary to prepare a full breakfast, second breakfast, lunch, dinner - with a sufficient amount of proteins, fats, carbohydrates, vitamins. It is preferable to eat boiled dishes, with a moderate amount of salt and spices. The lunch menu must include first courses.
There is no need to even mention fresh food, clean teeth and hands: these basic hygiene principles should be instilled in every person from early childhood – by family, kindergarten, school.
Bad habits seem to have no direct connection with nutrition, but both strong drinks and tobacco smoke directly contact the digestive system, and this contact is clearly not good for the mucous membrane. Therefore, unhealthy hobbies are at the top of the list of causes of gastritis.
Regarding medications, there are separate recommendations: they should not be abused, that is, treating mild and imaginary diseases with shock doses of strong drugs. Sleeping pills, antibiotics, analgesics taken without extreme need overload the digestive system, irritate the mucous membranes, cause heartburn and disorders, and this can provoke gastritis.
Products for stroke prevention
Lifestyle and diet affect the risk of developing cardiovascular diseases. Nutritionists advise which products should be avoided and which ones should be used as disease prevention products.
There are also recommendations regarding products for stroke prevention. They work in at least three directions:
- to reduce cholesterol levels;
- for enrichment with useful components (potassium, magnesium, folate);
- to eliminate excess sodium salts.
- Oats: contains magnesium, which lowers blood pressure and normalizes cholesterol. Regular consumption of oatmeal can reduce the risk of hemorrhage by almost a third. Soybeans, almonds, and seaweed are also rich in magnesium.
- Prunes: rich in potassium. Just one and a half grams of this element (several pieces of dried fruit) per day reduces the chances of stroke by 28%. Potassium is found in raisins, bananas (daily dose 2-3 fruits), potatoes.
- Tomatoes and tomato products: an excellent source of antioxidants that improve blood circulation, have anti-sclerotic and anti-inflammatory effects. Other brightly colored vegetables provide the same benefits.
- Beans are rich in folate, a substance that reduces the chances of all cardiovascular problems, including strokes. Folate is also found in spinach greens.
- Low-fat dairy products: contain potassium, calcium, magnesium – microelements that lower blood pressure. Two servings of milk a day reduce the risk of stroke by half. There is enough magnesium in spinach, halibut, black beans.
- Fatty fish: enriches the body with omega 3 acids. They stimulate blood circulation, resist inflammation and thrombosis of blood vessels. By replacing fish with meat, you can reduce the total amount of less healthy products and dishes in the menu.
- Fruits rich in fiber, juices with pulp, natural marmalade remove toxins, prevent atherosclerosis and, accordingly, stroke. Bread and whole grains have the same properties.
- Chocolate and cocoa beans also protect against stroke. Nine grams of the dark delicacy daily reduce the risk of the disease by 17%.
Products for the prevention of varicose veins
Blood with varicose veins becomes viscous, prone to the formation of clots. Therefore, the diet should consist of products for the prevention of varicose veins: thinning the blood and getting rid of excess weight, which is the main risk factor. When composing a menu, you should also spare the liver, because in a healthy state it does not allow the formation of blood clots.
An important component of the anti-varicose diet is clean drinking water. It replenishes the fluid balance, which is especially important in hot weather. People prone to varicose veins need to drink 2 to 2.5 liters of water daily. This amount includes natural juices, green and mint teas.
Raspberry jam helps thin the blood. The daily dose is several spoons. The following products have the same property for disease prevention:
- flaxseed and olive oils;
- fish, fish oil;
- tomato juice;
- various berries;
- onion, garlic;
- beet;
- lemons and grapefruits;
- chocolate and cocoa;
- seeds and hazelnuts;
- apple cider vinegar;
- oatmeal;
- ginger.
It is known that garlic not only prevents, but also dissolves existing clots. Blood thickens from stress, alcohol and nicotine, from some medications (hormonal, diuretic, contraceptive). A rational diet gets rid of excess weight, normalizes blood viscosity, eliminates toxins, thereby significantly reducing the threat of hemorrhage.
Anyone can review their diet, choosing healthier dishes from products to prevent diseases. Positive results will not take long to come – starting with eliminating excess weight, which provokes many troubles. And then it is quite possible to avoid diseases, including life-threatening ones. If you still can’t avoid the disease, then the right way out is to see a doctor.
