Diverticulosis usually develops in people who do not pay enough attention to proper nutrition: the disease occurs due to excessive consumption of refined foods along with a small amount of plant products. In advanced cases, the only treatment method is surgical intervention. However, at the initial stages of the pathology, a diet for diverticulosis is successfully used - often a properly selected diet makes life much easier for patients.

The essence of the diet for diverticulosis

The essence of the diet for uncomplicated diverticulosis is to increase the consumption of fibrous foods to prevent further progression of the disease. The patient should eat a complete and balanced diet, taking into account the following features:

  • increase the amount of fiber in the menu. Bran and sprouted grains added to the main food, as well as seaweed, will serve as sources of fiber. If well tolerated, add any plant products. Also, do not forget to drink more liquid to ensure the swelling of the fiber and its movement through the digestive tract;
  • we limit food that causes increased gas formation - these are legumes, cabbage, fresh milk, some vegetables and fruits with a rough structure. It is difficult to determine a specific product here, it is necessary to focus on the patient's individual reaction to a particular product. Often, seeds, seeds and nuts are also unacceptable products;
  • in case of constipation, we focus on eating dried fruits and fermented milk products, as well as maintaining a drinking regime with a sufficient amount of clean water;
  • We switch to a diet with a large amount of fibrous food gradually, carefully observing the reaction of the digestive system. If at first there is pain and bloating, then there is no need to worry: such phenomena will pass in a few days after changes in nutrition.

Therapeutic diet 5 for diverticulosis

Therapeutic table No. 5, or diet 5, is specially designed to support the digestive system in diseases of the liver, gallbladder, stomach, pancreas, and intestines. Nutrition according to this diet involves the selection of certain products, with the appropriate temperature and frequency of food intake. Following the diet allows you to facilitate the flow of fat and cholesterol metabolic processes, stimulate the secretion of bile and normalize the function of the gastrointestinal tract.

Dietary restrictions mainly concern fatty foods (due to refractory fats). The content of carbohydrates and proteins remains the same. Products with oxalic acid, essential oils, and oxidized fats are excluded from the menu. Approximate daily consumption of carbohydrates is 50 g, fats - 70 g (mainly vegetable), proteins - 100 g. The daily caloric content of the diet is 2500-2800 kcal.

Particular attention is paid to increasing the total amount of pectin, lipotropics, fluid and natural dietary fiber.

The frequency of food intake for diverticulosis is approximately 5-6 meals per day. It is recommended to eat boiled, baked, stewed, steamed foods. Food is thoroughly chopped or mashed during cooking. It is not recommended to eat too hot or too cold food.

Diet for exacerbation of diverticulosis

During acute diverticulosis, or during an exacerbation of the chronic form of the disease, the specifics of dietary nutrition should depend on the symptoms and severity of the disease. The diet may vary, ranging from limiting the consumption of certain foods (for example, prescribing easily digestible food, which is usually used for significant symptoms of exacerbation) to ensuring absolute rest for the intestines - fasting with the use of parenteral nutrition.

After the acute symptoms have been eliminated and the patient's condition has stabilized, changes in nutrition should be aimed at normalizing intestinal peristalsis and the act of defecation. The diet should be enriched with fiber and coarse-fiber foods, while controlling the digestive process and preventing increased gas formation. To do this, vegetable and fruit dishes should be prepared chopped, removing the rough peel, and eaten often, but in small amounts. In the first week of exacerbation of diverticulosis, as well as for several days after the acute process has been stopped, plant products should be consumed only after heat treatment - it is better not to eat raw vegetables and fruits during this period.

On Monday:

Diverticulosis Diet Recipes

  • Stewed vegetables in sour cream. Ingredients: one medium zucchini, one onion, two carrots, 120 g rice, 200 ml sour cream, vegetable oil, spices. Wash the zucchini and cut into squares. Chop the onion and carrot, soak the rice. Sauté the zucchini slices in vegetable oil, add the onion and carrot, after 5 minutes pour in the sour cream and stew for a few minutes. Add rice, spices, mix with vegetables, add water or broth 2 cm above the surface of the rice. Cover with a lid and simmer over low heat until done. Enjoy.
  • Casserole. Ingredients: 1/3 cup buckwheat, vegetable oil, onion, one zucchini, three eggs, 100 g feta cheese, herbs, spices. Preparation: wash and boil the buckwheat, leave to infuse under the lid. Sauté finely chopped onion in vegetable oil, add grated zucchini and buckwheat. Fry for 10 minutes. Add spices, raw eggs, chopped feta cheese, mix well. Transfer to a form greased with vegetable oil and put in the oven at 180 ° C for about half an hour, until a beautiful crust forms. Sprinkle the finished casserole with herbs and serve.
  • Tomatoes stuffed with cottage cheese. Ingredients: tomatoes - 0.5 kg, 2 cloves of garlic, salt, cottage cheese 200 g, green onions, herbs, spices. Remove the pulp and seeds from the tomatoes. Chop the garlic and onions, add salt and pepper and mix with the cottage cheese. Fill the tomatoes with the cottage cheese stuffing and place on a baking sheet greased with vegetable oil. Put in the oven for 20-30 minutes at 170-180 ° C. Serve warm, sprinkled with chopped herbs.

What can you eat if you have diverticulosis?

In order to successfully treat diverticulosis or prevent an exacerbation of this disease, it is important to normalize intestinal peristalsis. This can be achieved by enriching the diet with sufficient fiber and liquid (mainly in the form of pure water).

  • Bran should be an integral part of the daily diet. It can be purchased in its pure form - in health food stores, in organic markets, etc. There are also pharmaceutical dietary supplements with bran: for example, "Siberian fiber", etc. Bran and additives are best mixed with kefir or other fermented milk products.
  • All kinds of vegetables that do not provoke increased gas formation in the intestines. First of all, these are stewed vegetables: carrots, beets, zucchini and eggplants, potatoes, pumpkin, tomatoes, sweet potatoes, celery, etc.
  • Fruits should be selected based on individual tolerance. As a rule, apples, citrus fruits, avocados, bananas, melons, kiwis, etc. are well tolerated by the digestive system.
  • Cereals and porridges – buckwheat, rice, oats, and barley are especially good.
  • Berries: strawberries, blueberries, wild strawberries, as well as cherries.

  • semolina porridge, white flour;

  • marinades, sauces;
  • cabbage;
  • old kefir (more than 2-3 days);
  • seeds, nuts;
  • chips, snacks, salted nuts;
  • semi-finished products, fast food.
