Although alopecia is considered a medical problem that requires consultation with a trichologist, the question of how to stop baldness in men is solved mainly at home, i.e. hospital treatment is not required (unless we are talking about lichen or other contagious infectious pathologies). The doctor prescribes effective drugs, according to the type of alopecia and its degree determined during diagnostic procedures, gives recommendations for scalp and hair care and sets the date of the next visit to monitor the treatment.
But understanding that even strong drugs cannot solve the problem of baldness in men once and for all, especially since such drugs cannot be taken for a long time, doctors do not limit themselves to these prescriptions, because natural drugs and folk remedies can be no less effective than traditional methods. And as a preventive measure against relapses of hair loss, home remedies for baldness in men are not inferior to classical therapy.
The most important thing when choosing folk recipes to combat baldness is to pay attention to the components of the folk remedy. They should pursue 2 goals: stimulate blood circulation in the scalp and carry nutrients to the hair follicles.
Salt
Let's start with the simplest thing - with coarse kitchen salt (you can use either table salt or sea salt). Salt for hair loss in men is used as an effective massage component, which, among other things, has bactericidal properties, controls sebum production, and softens hair. Clean hair and scalp are pre-moistened, then salt is applied to the scalp with light massage movements, leaving it for 10-20 minutes, after which it is washed off with water without detergents.
Salt for massage and rubbing can also be used in combination with other useful components: olive oil, honey, red pepper tincture (a powerful hair growth stimulator), nettle extract, etc.
For alopecia in men, it is recommended to include salt in the composition of medicinal masks:
- Salt (2 tbsp), kefir (1/2 cup), yolk of 1 egg. Apply the mixture to the head for half an hour under a film, then wash off with shampoo.
- Mineral water (1/2 cup), almond or olive oil (1/2 tsp), wheat germ oil (1/2 tsp), salt (1 tbsp). Keep on head, warm, for about an hour, then wash off with water and shampoo.
Salt masks and rubbing are not recommended more often than once a week.
When we talked about choosing an effective shampoo, we didn't mention that any product suitable for your skin type can be made medicinal by adding components such as sea salt, burdock oil, and vitamins. Salt can also be added to hair rinses as a softening component and antiseptic.
Mustard for baldness in men and women
This is another budget solution to the problem using kitchen supplies. Mustard (and the recipes mainly use powder from the plant's seeds) due to its irritating effect is able to activate blood circulation and metabolism in the scalp, awakening the bulbs that are in a dormant state. In addition to the fact that it prevents hair loss and enhances their growth, mustard disinfects the scalp and removes excess oiliness.
Mustard is used to treat baldness mainly in the form of masks:
For hair loss
- Take dry mustard (1/2 tbsp), kefir (1/2 tbsp), one egg yolk. Apply the mixture to the scalp for half an hour under a film once a week. Wash off with water and shampoo.
- Take dry mustard (1 tbsp), warm water (1 tbsp), sugar or honey (1/2 tbsp), fresh yolk (half), burdock oil (1 tbsp). Apply the mixture to the scalp and keep it on for as long as you can, but no more than an hour. Remember that the sweeter the mask, the more burning it will be for the skin. Apply the mask once every 5-7 days, if the scalp is dry, then increase the interval to 10 days.
- Mix 1 tbsp. dry mustard powder in a water-vodka mixture (100 ml of water and vodka or cognac). Keep the mask on your head for 5 minutes, then rinse with warm water.
- Dissolve 1 spoon of yeast (dry) in two tablespoons of water. When they swell, add 1 spoon of honey and mustard. Keep the mask on your head under a film for half an hour, then wash off with water and shampoo.
For hair growth
- For a complex multi-component mask, take 1 teaspoon of mustard powder, mix with warm water until it becomes a paste, add 2 tablespoons of freshly squeezed onion juice and 1 tablespoon each of aloe and garlic juices. Finally, add 1 tablespoon of honey and mix all the ingredients. Don't just apply the mixture to the scalp, rub it in lightly, then leave it for 1.5 hours, wrapping your head well. Rinse the mask with water and shampoo.
In the last mask we see such components as onion, garlic and aloe. It should be said that for the treatment of alopecia these products are also used in other combinations.
Aloe for male pattern baldness
It is useful due to its rich vitamin composition (vitamins A, C, E, group B, beta-carotene). It is these vitamins that the hair follicle needs so that it can reproduce new strong hair that will actively grow, making the hairstyle lush and beautiful. In addition, the plant is considered an effective antiseptic and is able to heal wounds and damage to the skin. It is not for nothing that aloe juice can be found in many care products.
The juice of this indoor plant, squeezed from a leaf of a three-year-old aloe, kept in the cold for 10-12 hours, can be simply rubbed into clean scalp a couple of times a week, without rinsing, for a course of at least three weeks.
But you can also strengthen your hair with masks. For example, masks made from yolk, honey, aloe juice and garlic. Take 1 tbsp of aloe juice and honey, add beaten yolk and 1 tsp of garlic juice. Rub the mixture into your head and leave for 20 minutes, then wash off with water and shampoo.
Garlic and onion
Garlic is no less useful for baldness in men, which, when applied locally, has an irritating effect on sensitive receptors, thereby increasing blood circulation and activating hair follicles. In terms of vitamin composition, garlic is hardly inferior to aloe. Phytonutrients in garlic help restore hair color and structure, remove sebaceous plugs, and stimulate hair growth and renewal.
The easiest way is to massage the balding areas in the evenings with a cut clove of garlic, trying to squeeze the juice out of it. Then take burdock oil, add coriander ether (a few drops) and massage the head, rubbing this mixture in. Such procedures should be done every day for at least 4-5 months.
Alternatively, you can include aloe juice in various masks used to strengthen and grow hair, and experienced trichologists recommend adding this useful component to shampoos for regular hair care. By the way, doctors also advocate including garlic in the daily diet, which will also have a positive effect on the condition of hair, nails and skin, and will also help prevent many diseases. For an adult, the norm is considered to be eating 3 cloves of garlic per day.
Onions may contain slightly fewer vitamins useful for hair compared to garlic and aloe, but they contain many useful microelements, natural antibiotics, phytoncides and saponins that enhance hair growth. It is not surprising that onions are so actively recommended for use in hair loss in men and women. True, the downside of this treatment is the unpleasant onion aroma, but the result is worth it.
The simplest option for treating alopecia with onions is to apply a gruel of onions to the scalp, to which it is recommended to add a couple of teaspoons of natural honey. The composition should be kept on the head for about 1 hour, after which the head is thoroughly washed with water and detergent.
Onion juice can also be used in multi-component strengthening masks. For example, mix the juice of a small onion with mayonnaise, olive oil and honey (take all components in the amount of 1 tablespoon). Keep the mixture on the head for an hour, not forgetting to wrap it up beforehand.
To strengthen hair roots, you can mix the juice of a medium onion with a raw chicken egg (beat it first), 1 teaspoon of clove oil and 2 tablespoons of sour milk (kefir, yogurt, if you have dry hair, it is better to take sour cream). Heat the mixture in a water bath and apply to the head, leaving for half an hour (wrap it up warmly).
Hot pepper
Quite often, hot pepper is also featured in recipes for hair loss. Usually, an alcohol tincture is used, which is prepared independently or purchased at a pharmacy. The most popular recipes are those where pepper tincture is mixed in a ratio of 1:1, 1:2 or more with vegetable oils (sea buckthorn, castor, olive, etc.) or water with the addition of effective essential oils. Alternatively, you can mix pepper tincture and conditioner in a ratio of 1:2 and apply to the scalp for a quarter of an hour, wrapping your head in a warm scarf.
Masks with hot pepper, which need to be kept on the head for 1-2 hours, are a rather cruel option for treating alopecia, because the burning sensation can be quite strong and you will have to endure it. But the results of such treatment are impressive.
Essential oils
Essential oils often appear in recipes for baldness in men and women. And this is not surprising, because the healing properties of various ethers have long been used in alternative medicine. Oils can be used to strengthen hair both in pure form and as part of various nourishing and strengthening masks.
It should be said that the popular burdock oil is not the only effective remedy for baldness in men. Quite often, masks include olive and castor oil, which prevent skin from drying out. Flax seed oil is also considered useful for hair due to its rich vitamin and mineral composition. Coconut oil also helps nourish the scalp and hair roots.
One of the most powerful means for strengthening and stimulating hair growth is almond oil, which, along with caraway oil, is actively used in the treatment of alopecia. But jojoba and sea buckthorn oils help improve the condition of the scalp.
As for essential oils (ethers), which doctors do not recommend using in their pure form (they are added to masks and lotions in a few drops), then for the treatment of baldness in men, the most valuable are considered to be ethers of rosemary, tea tree, lemon, bergamot, mint, lavender, coriander. All of them have a beneficial effect on the scalp, without increasing its oiliness, improve hair nutrition and stimulate hair growth.
Masks with essential oils are prepared on the basis of a base oil (for example, olive, almond or castor) and components rich in vitamins and minerals. For the treatment of alopecia, it is always recommended to add an egg yolk (or a whole raw egg) to such masks, and add essential oils to the finished composition in 3-5 drops.
As we have already mentioned, trichologists have a positive attitude towards the use of folk recipes for baldness in men. And they can even recommend some of them as additional treatment and prevention of relapses. Of particular interest are recipes that combine pharmaceutical drugs (most often nicotinic acid) and components that are not a medicine.
Here are some examples of such vitamin masks:
- 2 tsp aloe juice, 20 drops red pepper tincture (3 pods per 100 g vodka, leave for a week), 2.5 tbsp any vegetable oil, 1 ampoule of nicotinic acid.
- 1 tbsp. burdock oil, 0.5 ml retinol, 10 drops of vitamin E, 1 ampoule of nicotinamide.
- 30 g honey, 40 ml olive or castor oil, 1 egg yolk, 1 ampoule of nicotinic acid.
Herbs for baldness
Phytotherapy is also used to combat baldness in men. Herbal treatment is considered entirely justified, given that extracts of many plants are included in professional shampoos against hair loss. And the experience of our grandmothers suggests that rinsing hair with herbal decoctions helps strengthen it.
Herbal decoctions for rinsing hair can be used after washing your hair or applying medicinal masks to it. The most popular in this regard are decoctions of burdock roots and nettle leaves. A decoction of burdock roots and calamus has a good strengthening effect.
What other plants will be useful in combating excessive hair loss? Traditional healers recommend preparing decoctions from hop cones, oak and willow bark, thyme, plantain, sage, lungwort, and chamomile. Herbs can be used both individually and in mixtures, which will help combine the effects of different plants and enhance the effect of the recipe.
A good remedy for hair loss is also considered to be an alcohol tincture of calendula, which can be prepared independently or purchased at a pharmacy (quite a budget remedy). Before use, the tincture is diluted with three parts of water. A cloth napkin is moistened in the solution and applied to the area of hair loss every other day. Keep this compress for about an hour. It will also be useful for seborrheic alopecia.
It should be said that folk recipes, unlike some medications, are universal, so the whole family can successfully use them if necessary. The main thing is to test the product on a small area of skin first. If there is a strong burning sensation, itching, redness and swelling of the tissue, it is better to choose another recipe.
Such an allergy test will not only protect you from unpleasant sensations and skin rashes, but will also help to avoid increased hair loss caused by the activation of the immune system. The appearance of the symptoms described above may be evidence of an allergy, as well as the fact that a man has too sensitive scalp. In any case, it is better to refuse to use the selected product.
Another important piece of advice: consult a doctor about the selected recipes who knows about the contraindications to the use of individual components of the masks. This will be a good prevention of complications of existing diseases against the background of the treatment of the problem of hair loss. It is necessary to understand that such treatment will be long-term, and if there are contraindications, it can have dire consequences.
Homeopathy for Male Pattern Baldness
Hair loss at an early age in the stronger sex can be called a pathology, but it is not a disease. And even if we are talking about pathological, not physiological causes of baldness, hair loss is only a symptom of the disease. Not to mention that androgenic alopecia cannot even be called a disorder in the full sense of the word. It is clear that with a condition that does not affect a person's physical well-being, one does not really want to take potent drugs. A luxurious head of hair is hardly worth acquiring a lot of health problems for it, including the loss of male potency. Therefore, to combat the problem, men turn to more gentle methods, for example, those offered to them by homeopathy.
What homeopathic remedies can help with baldness in men? There are many single-component remedies that a homeopathic doctor can prescribe for various symptoms of baldness. So, with the early appearance of balding areas and graying hair, Lycopodium will be useful. Treatment of sparse hair against the background of dry skin is carried out using the drug Kalium carbonicum. If yellowish dandruff forms against the background of bald spots, Kalium sulfuricum comes to the rescue. Phosphorus and Acidum phosphoricum will be useful for diffuse baldness against the background of stress and strong emotions. And Selenium will come to the rescue with hair loss on the head and body.
But it must be said that doctors prescribe such treatment less and less often, because today there are many complex homeopathic preparations that help not with one specific problem, but in the case of baldness that has arisen under the influence of several factors at once. In addition, such preparations not only promote health and hair growth, but also improve the condition of the skin.
Let us give examples of such multi-component homeopathic preparations:
- "Selencin" is a preparation in the form of tablets or granules, which, along with the shampoo of the same name, is actively used in the treatment of symptomatic (diffuse) and seborrheic alopecia in men and women. Its action is aimed at improving the blood supply and nutrition of the skin and hair from the very roots. This helps to achieve an increase in the diameter of the hair (it becomes thicker and stronger), a decrease in the number of hairs in the telogen phase and an increase in the number of actively growing hairs.
The composition of the preparation includes the following components in potency C6: Selenium, Phosphorus, Lycopodium, Thallium aceticum, Kalium phosphoricum and Alumina. Sodium chloratum in the preparation is presented in potency C30.
Depending on the form of release, 1 tablet or 8 granules are used at a time, which are best taken before meals, holding under the tongue until dissolved. The frequency of administration is 3-5 days. The course of treatment is about 2 months with a week's break and the possibility of repeating the course after 1-2 months.
- "Riobeliton" is a complex drug used to combat brittle nails and hair loss. The indications for use of the drug include alopecia and seborrhea.
The composition of the drug is identical to the previous one, although almost all components are presented in higher dilutions.
The drug is prescribed 5-8 granules under the tongue four times a day. The drug should be taken half an hour before meals or an hour after. The course of treatment with the drug is 1 month, although maintenance courses may be needed later.
- "Alopeton" is a homeopathic preparation with a more modest, but no less effective composition: acidum fluoricus, selenium, silicea. Its task is to improve the trophism of head tissues, normalize nutrition and hair growth, stabilize the state of the nervous system.
The indications for use of the drug include: focal and diffuse alopecia due to stress and immune system failures, premature hair loss in guys with androgenetic alopecia, alopecia caused by diseases of the internal organs.
The drug should be taken 5 granules once a day in the morning every other day. It is better to do this half an hour before meals. The minimum course of treatment is 4 months with the possibility of repetition after a month's break.
- "Keranorm" complex No. 18 is a homeopathic remedy that affects blood circulation and microelement metabolism in the scalp tissues and hair follicles. It is indicated for improving hair growth and reducing the amount of hair loss in men with baldness.
The composition of the preparation contains Silicea and Acidum phosphoricum in potency C6, as well as Thallium aceticum C30 and Selenium C12.
The granules should be taken 3-5 pieces under the tongue outside of meals. The minimum course of treatment is 2 months.
- "Thallium Plus" is a homeopathic remedy that is effective at the first signs of baldness, even if it is androgenic alopecia (up to 6 months). It contains a complex of 6 monodrugs in C6 potency: Thallium aceticum, Phosphorus, Sulphur, Graphites, Selenium, Silicea, where Phosphorus helps to fight even the manifestations of alopecia areata, and Sulphur and Graphites treat dryness and rashes on the scalp.
The drug should be taken 8 granules 5 times a day half an hour before meals. The course of treatment is 8 weeks, although the first results should appear after 2-3 weeks.
Complex homeopathic preparations have virtually no contraindications, although it is preferable to take them for adult patients. It should be understood that in the first days and weeks of treatment, increased hair loss, itching on the head, and dandruff may occur, which is a normal treatment process. After a while, everything will get better, and the first improvements will appear.
