Depilatory cream is a great tool for those who want to get a quick effect and do not have the time to independently make ointments, tinctures and other labor-intensive recipes for hair removal. Modern cosmetology offers many options for such creams, which indicates their extreme popularity and demand. In addition, according to statistics, hair removal creams take an honorable second place after waxing in the list of home hair removal methods. You can reduce the risk of minor discomfort and possible allergic reactions in the following way:
- Read the instructions carefully before use.
- Be sure to conduct an allergy test on a small area of skin.
- When choosing a hair removal cream, do not skimp, it is better to buy a product from a well-known brand, a well-known brand, than to treat inflamed skin later.

- During the procedure, you should adhere to the rules of hygiene; after hair removal, the skin should be treated with a moisturizing, antiseptic agent (many creams already contain bactericidal components).
You can also make your own hair removal cream if you have the time and desire to try yourself as a chemist or pharmacist:
- 10 grams of sodium sulfate (buy at the pharmacy).
- 10 grams of potato starch.
- 5 grams of glycerin without perfume additives.
- 75-80 milliliters of distilled water.
Mix everything, apply with a cotton swab (preferably with a special spatula) to prepared, clean skin. After 10 minutes, rinse with warm water and lubricate the skin with a cream containing an antiseptic.
Possible difficulties, features of using depilatory cream:
- New hair may appear literally the next day, despite the result advertised by the manufacturer. Everything is very individual and depends on the structure of the hair shaft, the activity of the follicle.
- Many creams have a fairly aggressive composition, so when using them, you need to wear gloves on your hands.
- If the cream does not remove all the hair, it cannot be used on the same area of skin again on the same day. You may get a chemical burn or skin irritation.
- You cannot increase the duration of the cream's action in order to achieve a more lasting result.
- After using depilatory cream, it is not recommended to take sun treatments.

Hair Removal Oil
Let's make it clear right away that hair removal oil is not used as a method of epilation, it is used before or after the procedure as a softening or antiseptic agent. There are also types of essential oils that slow down the growth of hair shafts, therefore, prolong the epilation effect. In order to soften and prepare the skin for the hair removal process, a mixture of grape seed oil and jojoba oil is applied, the same composition can be used after the procedure. In addition, it is worth trying to make a balm yourself, which helps to care for delicate skin and prevents ingrown hairs. Composition of the cream-balm:
- 25 milliliters of warmed but unmelted shea butter.
- 2.5 teaspoons almond oil.
- 3-4 drops of tea tree essential oil.
Mix everything thoroughly and store in a glass container, closed in the cold. The balm perfectly regenerates the skin, prevents inflammation, redness, and also helps slow down the growth of new hair. The components of tea tree essential oil are well absorbed deep into the dermis due to the penetrating properties of shea butter, as well as almond oil. They act as a vehicle delivering essential oil-antiseptic to the deep layers of the skin.
Oils are also effective as skin care products after epilation:
- Rosewood oil, bergamot oil. You can saturate a regular baby cream with these oils, just add 6-7 drops to the base. It will be more convenient to pre-squeeze the cream from the tube into a clean jar, mix the components and store the product in a closed form (the ethers quickly evaporate). Rose oil removes redness after shaving, bergamot oil disinfects and prevents ingrown hairs, slightly slowing their growth.
- Cedar or pine essential oil. Just like in the recipe with rose oil, pine oil can be used to enrich any light cream without perfume fragrances. Coniferous oils relieve irritation, redness, heal the smallest, invisible to the eye microcracks and wounds on the skin.
Oil tincture for hair removal
An oil tincture that helps remove hair is a product containing a very poisonous component - datura. Datura is a large-leaved herb of the nightshade family, datura contains a large number of organic alkaloids, the highest concentration in the roots of the plant. Datura is a strong hallucinogen, this feature was well known and often used in practice by the inhabitants of Mexico, Indian tribes. Most likely, they also discovered the ability of datura to slow down hair growth, this information was spread in the East, where sultry beauties were regular users of ointments and tinctures containing datura root.
An oil tincture for hair removal containing datura extract acts on the hair follicle, slowing down the growth of the shaft. Gradually, the structure of the hair papilla is destroyed, it dies, and, accordingly, the hair no longer grows. The period of action on the follicle is from six months to one year. This is due to the slow interaction of the components of the oil tincture with the skin, hair follicle, as well as the method of application. It should be noted that datura is almost always used in a very small dosage, even when applied externally. The product is applied once a day to a small area of the body, literally one drop at a time. Such microprocedures, of course, are tedious, but, according to the adherents of the datura tincture, they are very effective and quite safe.
Oil tincture for hair removal is difficult to make at home, so it is best to buy it ready-made. Many praise the Silk Body preparation, which contains an oil extract of datura, and you can also find a tincture of Russian production in pharmacies and specialized salons. The product has many contraindications, it should be remembered that datura is considered one of the most poisonous plants. The tincture is not used for the following categories of beautiful ladies:
- Girls, young women up to 18-20 years old.
- Pregnant women.
- Women who are breastfeeding.
- For women prone to allergic reactions.
There is also an oil tincture that helps cleanse the skin after epilation. You can make this remedy yourself:
- Peppermint oil – 3-5 drops.
- Clove oil – 5 drops.
- Purified glycerin without fragrances - 50 milliliters.
- Dimethicone - a bottle of antiseptic or its analogue (50 milliliters).
Mix everything in a glass bottle (100 ml), shake and leave for 24 hours. Use as a bactericidal and cooling agent after removing body hair, the oil tincture is not intended for application to the face and bikini area.
Hair Removal with Ant Oil
Ant oil is considered one of the reliable and safe methods of removing unwanted hair from the skin. This method is especially popular in Asian and Eastern countries, perhaps because the unique recipe for hair removal using ant eggs has been passed down from generation to generation.
The principle of action, which involves hair removal with ant oil, is similar to all other mechanisms of hair follicle inhibition. Ant egg oil is able to penetrate deep enough under the skin, reach the hair follicle and deactivate its function. As a result, the hair grows more slowly, the shaft itself gradually becomes thinner, weaker and eventually stops growing completely. The ant remedy works great with all areas of the body, including the face, groin area. There is also a feature of the use of products containing ant egg extract. It is used only after the main depilation, when both the shaft and the bulb are removed. It is not so important how the hair will be depilated, the main thing is that there is none. This method ensures high-quality penetration of ant oil to the follicle. The application technology is very simple, for a week you need to lubricate the depilated, dry area of the skin with oil, lightly, driving in, rubbing the oil. If everything is done according to the rules, the depilation will last at least 7 days. If you use the ant potion constantly after each hair removal, in six months they will stop growing almost completely.
Hair removal with ant oil is suitable for literally all women, except that the growth of the hair shaft slows down, the skin receives valuable microelements, vitamins, that is, bioavailable nutrition. To minimize the risk of irritation or allergy to formic acid, you need to pre-test the skin, apply the product to the back of the wrist and observe the condition of the skin for 15-20 minutes. Complications associated with ant egg oil are extremely rare, but even such situations are best excluded.
Castor oil for hair removal
Castor oil is almost 90% ricin, which is a fairly toxic substance. Despite this composition, castor oil is actively used in cosmetology. Paradoxically, many consider castor oil a means for strengthening and growing hair, and not a way to remove it. In fact, this is true, but there are recipes in which castor oil acts as a base, the basis of an inhibitor drug. For example, such a recipe, where castor oil for hair removal is a carrier of all the active substances of nettle seeds:
- 100 milliliters of castor oil.
- 50 grams of crushed dry nettle seeds.
- Leave it for a month and rub it into areas already treated with an epilator to prevent hair growth.
Castor oil is also good as an emollient, because many recipes contain acids, iodine, hydrogen peroxide and even turpentine. Castor oil helps the skin regenerate, while inhibiting the growth of the hair shaft, which makes its use quite effective and safe.
Essential Oils for Hair Removal
Essential oils and hair removal, how do they go together? Let's make it clear right away that you can't remove hair using essential oils, they are not acidic or abrasive. Essential oils for hair removal are used as an antiseptic after the procedure. Many depilatory creams and waxes contain oils that have a powerful bactericidal and anti-inflammatory effect. In addition, a properly selected essential oil can be an excellent hair growth inhibitor. The following composition slows down the appearance of new hair shafts (scapus pili):
- Peppermint essential oil (cools and anesthetizes the skin after epilation).
- Lavender essential oil (antimicrobial, bactericidal agent).
- Tea tree essential oil (has anti-inflammatory, powerful antifungal effect and slows hair growth).
- Olive or grape seed oil, apricot oil (base oil)
Add 1 drop of mint, lavender and 5 drops of tea tree oil to one tablespoon of base oil. Store the mixture in a dark glass bottle at room temperature in a closed form. Apply immediately after the epilation procedure, then three times a week (every other day) after a bath, shower. Apply the essential mixture with light movements, let it soak in (5-10 minutes). The use of essential oils gives a double effect - in addition to the fact that the skin will be protected from microbial "invasion", the entire body will receive a session of aromatherapy.
The only thing to consider is the possible allergy caused by many essential oils and the incompatibility of tea tree oil with iodine preparations. Therefore, if you are allergic or predisposed to allergic reactions, you should find other ways to stop hair growth. The same advice applies to those who take iodine-containing preparations. In addition, some oils can give the opposite of the desired result, for example, rosemary oil, which has long been used to strengthen and quickly grow hair. Therefore, it is best to use proven recipes or consult with scientific aromatherapists.
