Scientists have found that the use of fructose in place of normal sugar does not lead to obesity, according to the journal "Archives of Internal Medicine" (Annals of Internal Medicine.

Canadian scientists, led by John Sievenpiper of McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario, prepared a large-scale review of the work on the effect of fructose on body weight. More than 30 studies were carried out. Participants received the same number of calories, but one group of subjects consumed fructose and the other did not. In addition, in 10 studies, the effect of obtaining additional calories in the diet due to fructose has been studied.

It turned out that in comparison with other sugars, fructose does not cause weight gain. The total number of calories is important, not their source, scientists say. Obesity arises because a person gets too many calories from all sorts of sources, spending a little.

It is worth recalling that fructose is a simple sugar contained in fruits. A high fructose corn syrup contains 50% glucose and 50% fructose and is widely used as a sweetener for drinks, sweets and other industrial products. Also fructose is used in sweets for diabetics. Previously, nutritionists often associated excess weight with the use of fructose. However, at the moment experts agree that there is not one such product that causes excessive body weight. A set of factors works here. And while all the mechanisms of the appearance of obesity are not fully revealed, it is very important not to overeat. And make sure that the intake of calories does not exceed the cost.
