American specialists have developed a unique drug that allows you to get rid of depression in just 1 day. The new drug has successfully passed clinical trials on animals and at this stage, specialists are testing it on volunteers.
To test the effectiveness of the new drug, scientists took a group of rats and brought the animals to a depressive state using constant stress situations. After that, the scientists administered a new drug to the animals, which eliminated the symptoms of mental disorder in one day. At the same time, scientists identified a possible side effect of the new drug, namely addiction. Thanks to clinical trials involving people, scientists will be able to establish whether the new drug can cope with depression and not cause severe addiction.
According to experts, the drug affects only those parts of the brain that are responsible for mood. In addition, the drug can be taken separately from other antidepressants, and sometimes completely replace them. It is worth noting that today, such mental disorders are treated for an average of 4 months, with several drugs prescribed.
According to studies conducted in different countries, depression has recently become an increasingly common form of mental disorder. Millions of people suffer from this disorder, according to some data, depression is observed in 20% of the population in developed countries.
Depression is considered a serious mental illness, which is characterized by decreased performance, mood, impaired thinking (negative thoughts, pessimism), and motor retardation. The disease brings suffering not only to the person himself, but also to his environment. Unfortunately, not everyone is aware of the typical signs of this disease, so quite often a person receives help when the disease has already acquired a protracted, severe nature (in some cases, a person remains without adequate help, which leads to suicide).
Today, health services are concerned about the current situation and are doing everything possible to spread information about depression and methods of treating this disorder.
Often, a person's depressive disorder is perceived by others as a difficult character, selfishness, natural pessimism. But it is worth remembering that this mental disorder is not just a temporary manifestation, but a serious illness that without effective help can lead to tragic consequences (a severe form can cause persistent suicidal thoughts in the patient). Depression is quite treatable, and the earlier the disease is detected, the greater the chances for a speedy recovery and a normal life.
The disease has emotional, mental, behavioral and physiological manifestations. When making a diagnosis, the doctor takes into account the duration of some signs of depression (some symptoms must be present for at least two weeks).
The main symptoms include decreased interest in the surrounding world, people, depression, irritability, insomnia, poor appetite, decreased self-esteem, constant feelings of guilt, refusal of entertainment, desire for solitude, decreased sexual desire, thoughts of one's own uselessness, and a gloomy future.
