Researchers have made a sensational announcement: the obesity epidemic is not only due to unhealthy lifestyles, but also to chemical compounds used in popular beauty products.
Doctors from the Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York are sure that phthalate, which is found in 70% of shampoos, cosmetics and soaps, disrupts the endocrine system and is best avoided. It must be said that the statements of American specialists are consistent with previous studies that have shown that chemical compounds can harm the system that controls our weight.
It turns out that substances that affect the endocrine system can imitate the effect of hormones and affect the functioning of the glands that produce them. In addition to phthalate, scientists from the Mount Sinai center also added bisphenol-A to the "black list", which is easily found in many containers, plastic water bottles and even baby bottles.
Pediatrician Maida Galvez, who participated in the study of 330 children in East Harlem, says she and her colleagues found a link between chemical compounds and a person’s weight. The doctor recommends choosing fragrance-free products and organic product lines.
