New research in the field of healthy weight loss has found that bariatric surgery reduces the risk of heart attack and type 2 diabetes.

Scientists claim that obesity is the most widespread problem of modern society. With each extra kilogram, the risk of developing heart and vascular diseases, diabetes increases.

The author of the new research project, Ian Douglas, emphasized that it is necessary to look for new effective ways to solve the problem today, and the fight against obesity should become one of the key health strategies. In a press release, Dr. Douglas noted that people need significant help in losing weight, despite the existing effective preventive measures to combat obesity. According to experts, bariatric surgery not only combats the main problem, but also helps to reduce the severe consequences associated with obesity.

The scientists conducted research over a period of 4 years, during which time they studied about 4 thousand medical records of patients suffering from obesity and who had undergone weight loss surgery.

The average age of the patients was 45 years, and most of them were women (more than 80%). The results of the operated participants in the experiment were compared with the results of patients from the control group who did not undergo similar operations.

Bariatric surgery, including gastric bypass surgery, has clear benefits, but despite this, few patients choose to undergo surgery.

According to scientists, less than 1% of patients who would have a real benefit from surgical treatment agree to the procedure. This approach certainly affects the plan for improving public health and economic savings, and now it is very important to find a way to help correct the current situation.

The study suggests that if bariatric surgery becomes more accessible, it could significantly improve the health of people suffering from obesity.

According to researchers, in the UK alone, the spread of bariatric surgery in just 4 years will significantly reduce the number of people with hypertension and reduce the risk of developing type II diabetes.

Bariatrics is translated as "weight treatment", in other words, this treatment involves eliminating the problem caused by excess kilograms. The term bariatric surgery began to be used in cases where the ultimate goal of surgical intervention was to reduce the patient's weight. In recent years, the problem of obesity has become increasingly relevant, so the search for a fight against the problem is of great interest to various specialists.

Today, bariatric surgery is the most effective way to treat severe obesity, when the body mass index exceeds 40. This method of combating excess weight has two goals: reducing the amount of food a person can eat at one time and reducing the absorption of nutrients in the small intestine.
