New research in the field of healthy weight loss showed that bariatric surgery reduces the likelihood of developing a heart attack and type II diabetes.
Scientists say that obesity is the most common problem in modern society. With every extra kilogram, the risk of developing heart and vascular diseases, diabetes mellitus increases.
The author of the new research project, Jan Douglas, stressed that it is already necessary to find new effective ways to solve the problem, while the fight against obesity should become one of the key healthcare strategies. In a press release, Dr. Douglas noted that people need substantial help in weight loss issues, despite effective preventive measures to combat obesity. According to experts, bariatric surgery not only struggles with the main problem, but also helps to reduce the severe consequences associated with obesity.
Scientists conducted research work for 4 years, during the work was studied about 4 thousand medical records of patients suffering from obesity and undergoing a weight loss operation.
The average age of the patients was 45 years, most of them were women (more than 80%). The results of the operated participants of the experiment were compared with the results of patients from the control group, who did not perform similar operations.
Bariatric surgery, including operations to reduce the stomach, has undoubted advantages, but despite this, few patients agree to surgical treatment.
According to scientists, less than 1% of patients who would have a real benefit of surgical treatment agree to the procedure. Such an approach, of course, is reflected in the plan for improving the health of the population and economic savings and it is now very important to find a way that would help to remedy the situation.
According to the results of the study, if bariatric surgery becomes more accessible, this will significantly improve the health status of people suffering from obesity.
According to researchers in the UK only, the spread of bariatric surgery after 4 years will significantly reduce the number of hypertensive patients and reduce the risk of developing type II diabetes.
Bariatria translates as "weight management", in other words, this treatment implies the elimination of the problem, which is caused by excess kilograms. The term bariatric surgery was used in cases where the ultimate goal of surgery was to reduce the weight of the patient. In recent years, the problem of obesity is increasingly relevant, so the search for struggle against the problem is of great interest to different specialists.
Today, bariatric surgery is the most effective way to treat severe obesity when the body mass index exceeds 40. This method of combating obesity has two goals: reducing the amount of food that a person can eat in one go and reduce the absorption of nutrients in the small intestine.
