In the Sumy State University conducted an All-Ukrainian scientific and practical conference, the theme of which was "Infectious diseases in the practice of an internist."

Scientists, as well as various specialists (therapists, pediatricians, infectious diseases, family and preventive medicine doctors) from different regions of Ukraine discussed diagnostic and treatment-and-prophylactic measures to combat infectious and parasitic diseases, improve the work of the infection service, and exchange experience and knowledge.

The head of the regional department of health protection Sergei Butenko noted that at the moment the epidemiological situation for diseases of infectious and parasitic diseases in the region is under control and remains stable.

The Sumy region has been taking the second-third place in Ukraine for several years in terms of the number of patients diagnosed, which indicates active health care and a high diagnostic level.

In 2012, the program "Antihepatitis" was launched in the region, thanks to which the treatment of patients with hepatitis is carried out at the expense of budgetary funds, in addition, the necessary equipment is purchased. As part of the program, a unique apparatus for the extracellular purification of blood with the function of "artificial liver" was purchased, which helps maintain the liver in acute insufficiency.

In his report "Modern Approaches to the Treatment of Acute Intestinal Infections ", the chairman of the Association of Infectious Diseases in the Sumy region, Nikolai Chemich, presented an algorithm for the treatment of infectious diarrhea, and dwelt on clinical and epidemiological indications for hospitalization of patients.

In addition, Irina Troitskaya, who is a freelance regional infectious disease specialist, acquainted the conference participants with the main pathogens of a prolonged fever, announced the data of her differential diagnosis and presented an algorithm for examining patients using modern methods.

Quite interesting was the speech of the student of the Medical University in Sumy Anastasia Lishnevskaya. She devoted her report to the portrayal of infectious diseases in the works of the great Ukrainian writer Taras Shevchenko. She also made a retrospective analysis of the poems and concluded that the poet's work was largely influenced by the mass incidence of infectious diseases. Also the epidemic of cholera from 1846 to 1860. Was quite common, while the main anti-epidemiological measures were not performed well enough, which ultimately led to mass death of people from this dangerous infectious disease.

During the conference, a number of speakers devoted their speeches to introducing modern medical methods into the practice of an internist doctor, in particular, antibacterial and antiviral drugs, probiotics. Also, the approaches to the diagnosis of infectious diseases, which are widespread in the Sumy region, were also discussed in detail. Participants of the conference made suggestions on the improvement of timely diagnosis of infectious diseases, examination and effective treatment of patients. In addition, ten reports were presented separately to the section of young specialists.

Following the results of the conference in Sumy, the participants approved a number of recommendations for the introduction of therapeutic and prophylactic institutions in Ukraine.
