Recently, in economically developed countries, scientists have noticed a not too pleasant regularity: the quality of semen in men has declined markedly in recent decades. Also, the concentration of spermatozoa and their mobility decreased, which increases the prevalence of such a disease as male infertility. Doctors believe that male reproductive health is in danger, as most of them do not even suspect.
According to the results of a recent study, the reason lies in the sedentary lifestyle of modern young people. American scientists conducted a study that showed that men who spend too much time in front of a television or computer, have less quality sperm than the more active members of the stronger sex. Initially, the aim of the study was to determine the relationship between lifestyle, namely physical activity, and sperm quality. In the experiment, 190 men of 22 to 28 years old took part. Experts took each participant's analysis of sperm, and a detailed survey was conducted, which included questions about lifestyle, nutrition, and sports. Also during the study, harmful habits such as smoking and drinking strong alcohol were taken into account.
The number of hours a week that young people are used to giving sports training of varying intensity is between 4 and 15 hours. Much more time, the male representatives prefer to spend in front of the screen: up to 20 hours weekly, without taking into account the time spent in front of the computer during the working day. Young people who lead a more active lifestyle, try to adhere to a healthy and balanced diet, do not use tobacco and alcohol.
Based on the results of the analysis and questioning, the researchers found that people who spend more than 20 hours a week in front of the TV have 45% fewer spermatozoa than those who ignore the "blue screen". Moreover, in young people who do not neglect physical activity, the quality and concentration of sperm is much better than in sedentary people, the testosterone level is almost 1.5 times higher.
At the moment, scientists are trying to find out the reason for the dependence of sperm quality on physical activity and pastime. There is an assumption that the cause lies in too much strain on the inguinal area, which is inevitable in the sedentary lifestyle.
Specialists noted that high physical activity positively affects the reproductive function, the hormone level of a person, and consequently the quality of sperm, which is responsible for the future offspring. Also, playing sports can help get rid of excess weight, which can cause a decrease in the number of spermatozoa. It is known that obesity is one of the main causes of infertility, so that in order to safely acquire a healthy offspring, you should pay attention not only to lifestyle, but also to the nutrition system, to limit bad habits.
