Scientists from the United States have created a device that allows us to examine in detail the anatomical and molecular structure of blood vessels, as well as to reveal the places of formation of thrombi. The formation of thrombi in the blood vessels can lead to heart attacks, which often result in death. This is especially dangerous if there is an implanted stent, which is a cylindrical skeleton to prevent vessel stenosis.
Studies have shown that about 2% of people with stents in coronary vessels are at high risk of developing myocardial infarction. Therefore, scientists began to develop a device that would help in the timely prevention of interference in the bloodstream. Outwardly, this device resembles a conventional catheter.
Micrographs are obtained as a result of using two technologies: the first one - gives an opportunity to see the anatomical structure of the vessel walls in high quality, the second one - allows to determine the molecular composition of tissues previously marked with fluorescent markers.
As a result, the doctor can see a three-dimensional color image, on which you can see the places of fibrin accumulation - the main constituent of the thrombotic clot, even before there are difficulties in blood flow in the vessels.
Testing a new development has come successful on rabbits, and the constructive convenience of the device will allow it to be widely used in medical practice.
