Recently, another study by scientists was completed in Sweden, the results of which refuted the previously existing opinion about what can lead a person to active longevity. Is a person capable of living a long life, applying his own efforts to this?
It has always been accepted that human life can be extended if certain criteria are followed: for example, if one follows the principles of healthy eating, exercises, and gives up bad habits. However, according to the results of a new experiment, scientists have proven that such criteria can only improve health and optimize the quality of life, but such measures do not affect the aging process or the possibility of longevity - this is the result of random facts and coincidences.
Scientists observed and studied twins living in Sweden to find out whether genes and environmental factors play a significant role in determining life expectancy.
The specialists managed to select a group of 385 participants, with an average age of 69 years. Over the course of two decades, materials were collected from the participants – blood for genetic testing. As a result, the scientists were able to fully track how age-related changes affect the state of DNA.
Taking into account the results of the conducted research, the specialists came to the following conclusion: one of the main predetermining factors indicating the aging of the body is the process of DNA methylation. This process is a modification of DNA molecules. It is this that is related to the negative age-related manifestations - to the suppression of cellular activity, to the development of atherosclerosis. Having carefully studied the many varieties of this process, the specialists discovered that they are not related to heredity. In related individuals and twins, as it was found out, the process of DNA methylation with age proceeded with an increasing difference.
This allowed specialists to come to the conclusion that the duration of the human organism's existence depends not only on the hereditary factor, but also on the impact of surrounding circumstances. The final result of such an impact cannot be predicted in advance. However, this does not mean that you can neglect such guidelines as a healthy lifestyle and proper nutrition - after all, this will significantly improve the quality of life and avoid many diseases. After all, life should not only be long, but also as active as possible. Many factors prevent a person from living a quality life: physical inactivity, poor diet, poor posture, a lot of bad habits lead not only to diseases, but also to sleep disorders, poor health and depressed mood.
If a person takes a responsible approach to issues of his own health, then even when he cannot extend his life, he has the power to make this life more active, joyful and harmonious.
