Renowned American plastic surgeon Dr. Valerie Ablaza, who has more than 25 years of practice under her belt, has debunked five of the most popular myths associated with her industry.

Myth #1: Plastic surgery is only for rich women with lots of time on their hands. "That may have been true once, but today, 60% of patients in plastic surgery clinics are middle class, and not even the upper class. According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, 10% of all cosmetic surgery procedures are performed on patients under 40, and 10% on men."

Myth two - after blepharoplasty I will have a surprised expression on my face. "Such an expression is seen in people whose eyebrows are raised too high, if I'm not mistaken. But what does blepharoplasty have to do with it? We work with the eyelids, and do not affect the location of the eyebrows at all. During the postoperative recovery period, some lifting of the eyebrows may be observed due to "relaxation" of the tissues, but this will quickly pass."

Myth three - breast lift changes its size. "A breast lift or mastopexy does not change the size of the breast, but only its shape and position on the chest. The size of the bust remains the same. We only strengthen the skin in which the mammary glands are located. But if you want to enlarge your bust, you can also install small implants at the same time."

Myth 4 - Fat removed by liposuction will appear elsewhere. "No, "new" fat will not appear anywhere other than where it was removed. Fat cells do not travel around the body. People are born with a fixed number of these cells, which increases as they gain weight. But liposuction removes the cells from the body permanently. New fat cells appear only in cases of extreme obesity."

Myth #5 - Exercise after weight loss and pregnancy helps tighten the skin. "You can't tighten your skin with exercise. Regular weight training will help build muscle mass and improve body contours, and aerobic exercise burns calories. But there are no exercises that will "tighten" the skin again. Nor are there any creams, lotions, or other similar products, no matter how much they are advertised. The only way to tighten it is through surgery."
