"The population of Ukraine as of April 1 was 45.54 million people," the State Statistics Committee reports.

The overall population decline in January-March was 54.3 thousand people. According to statistics, about 45.78 million people lived in Ukraine as of January 1. Of the country's total population, 31.2 million people were urban as of April 1.

According to the latest census of the population of Ukraine, conducted on December 5, 2001, 48 million 457.1 thousand people lived in the country.
