Leading specialist in the field of immunology and gastroenterology Eran Elinav, representing the Weizmann University of Israel, suggests regularly measuring blood glucose levels for weight loss. The analysis will help determine the degree of the body's reaction to the consumption of certain products.
As the specialist explains, the higher the blood glucose level after eating, the greater the likelihood of gaining extra pounds. In addition to excess weight, the risk of developing type 2 diabetes, hypertension, heart disease and vascular disease increases.
"Regular and significant jumps in blood glucose levels potentiate the activity of the pancreas. Insulin secretion is stimulated, a series of biochemical processes are launched, which entails excessive accumulation of fat cells and damage to the vascular network," the scientist explains.
Experts recommend purchasing a special household glucometer to be able to measure glucose levels before each meal, as well as an hour after eating. By comparing the readings, you can determine which foods cause a spike in glucose levels. Or, to put it more simply, which foods are more likely to cause weight gain than others.
Thus, if you exclude all potentially dangerous products, you can not only maintain your weight within normal limits, but also improve your heart function and cleanse your blood vessels.
In addition, the doctor provided separate recommendations for normalizing blood glucose levels. The scientist insists that small portions should be prepared for meals, because eating large meals invariably leads to an increase in glucose levels.
As the expert noted, fruits can have a multifaceted effect on blood sugar levels. It is best to eat raw fresh fruits, preferring them to dried fruits and candied fruits.
It is equally useful to drink water immediately before meals to lower blood glucose levels. Many people who want to lose weight pay a lot of attention to reducing the total amount of fat in food, but this does not help stabilize glucose levels. But eating full-fat dairy products, hard cheeses, and eggs has a positive effect on blood glucose levels after meals.
Nutrition plays a decisive role in regulating insulin production. To reduce insulin resistance, it is necessary to exclude refined sugars, baked goods, and sweets from the daily menu. Replacing them is easy: carbohydrates with a high fiber content and a low glycemic index are suitable for this. With such a diet, the pancreas will secrete insulin in a measured manner, and the cells will stabilize their susceptibility to it. In addition, eliminating baked goods will improve bowel function. For many people, this is expressed in the elimination of discomfort after eating - flatulence disappears, bowel movements improve.
