Modern ladies, feeling unwell, regularly resort to the help of the Internet, but not doctors. A random survey of 1,000 representatives of the fair sex showed that about half of them will try to find the cause of their own illness on the Internet before making an appointment with a professional, The Telegraph reports.
The other half of respondents said that, having diagnosed themselves using websites, they would go to a pharmacy and buy a medicine without consulting a pharmacist. At the same time, as statistics show, every fourth will end up making a mistake, buying something other than what they actually need.
It would be good if the harm from this purchase would be done only to the wallet. But, as a random survey showed: in one out of 10 cases, the matter turned into unpleasant side effects.
The reasons why women choose the Internet can be very different. Every 10th woman does not want to discuss health problems with her family, so as not to "whip up panic". 30% of women seek help on the Internet out of impatience, tired of waiting for a diagnosis, and 25% - because they are simply "afraid" to talk to doctors.
It is quite possible that because of this, a lot of time often passes between the appearance of a real problem and a visit to the doctor. In every 3rd case, such a "window" is at least 2 weeks. And in every 20th - more than a year.
More common causes of anxiety in women are sleep problems, headaches, depression, as well as muscle pain, itchy skin and fatigue. Every 5th woman suspects that she has a serious illness at some point - primarily breast cancer. At the same time, almost all women have mistakenly diagnosed themselves with thrush (candidiasis), arterial hypertension and bronchial asthma.
