Thermo Fisher Scientific is one of the leading biotechnology companies, a large global company that is engaged in the creation of the latest laboratory equipment.
The President of the Republic of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaitė opened a research laboratory based on the Thermo Fisher Scientific company, in which more than 6 million euros were invested.
This laboratory will create magnetic nanoparticles that will become the basis for drugs against HIV and cancer.
Today, Lithuania is the only country that will manufacture technological products of such a level. Ms. Grybauskaite noted that the work of Lithuanian scientists will help open up new opportunities for the world in the fight against serious diseases. The creation of the laboratory is the best confirmation that Lithuanian specialists are ready to use their full potential not only to solve global issues, but also to save human lives - the most valuable thing on earth.
The unique laboratory uses the most modern equipment and scientists will develop an advanced direction in therapy – individual medicine. The products that will be manufactured by the Lithuanian laboratory will be used in various treatment activities, and an individual therapeutic scheme will be developed for each patient. According to specialists, the use of the latest developments of the laboratory will allow to bring the fight against cancer, autoimmune diseases, HIV to a new level and make them not only more effective, but also simpler.
Lithuanian scientists plan to work with magnetic nanoparticles, which will be used to actually treat cancer patients. The nanoparticles will be coated with antibodies, which will cause active division of lymphocytes. The cells will be removed from the cancer patient, reprogrammed in such a way that after returning to the patient's body, the process of active destruction of cancer cells begins. It is planned that this approach to treatment will replace the radiation and chemotherapy used today.
According to the head of state, it is in Lithuania that innovative products are manufactured, which indicates a high level in all aspects. In particular, Ms. Grybauskaitė emphasized that Lithuania has recently established itself as a country with a progressive economy, outstanding achievements in science, creating the most advanced scientific developments used throughout the world.
